Three Southeast Asian Countries that were part of the French Indochina: Vietnam Laos Cambodia That is the reason why you can see and feel that French vibe in these countries
Yes, all three countries were invaded by France and were under their military occupation for nearly 100 years. The French will pay for the invasion one way or another. The Arabs are already making them pay, just look at the Paris city center, swarming with Arab brothers 💪😄
Laos is actually its own now, they have removed majority of French things! Vietnam is also very minimal with French belongings, not sure with Cambodia though!
You two made the right choice by traveling by car instead of train. That’s what most I did when I visited my old country. I love tubing and they fishing me with beer bottle to get into their open restaurant.❤
I was born in Laos but we came to the state when I was 3 or 4 of year! I live in Kansas City Kansas! One day I would love to go back to visit Laos 🇱🇦 ❤
I'm Laos, but from Orange County, California. Vietnamese banh mi here is better than khao jee I had in Laos IMO. Dog in Laos is maa. There is food near the night market or walking street. It is on the lower part near the stairs that goes down towards the Mekong. There is a 2 story restaurant near the end of walking street towards the parking lot area that serves good food. My favorite is the Pakse sausage. The restaurant is near where they have lots of lights hanging.
Thank you for sharing about Laos I’m from Laos but ,and I come in USA when I was 15 years old,I hope you are staying safe in 🇺🇸may God blessed you my dear
Girl if u r still in Laos go to Sticky fingers, it's my mother's restaurant and also the food is near the bouncy castles, there are many food stalls down there but u have to walk down a bit further to the left, also there is walking street if u keep going further ❤
Thanks Josie. Great video and entertaining. I'm lao but am also an Aussie living is OZ. Ive never had the opportunity to visit laos and hope to one day
So excited to see you are still at it. This is another fun vlog, my friends. So glad to be following your adventures, especially these instances where you ar in places we are going to soon. Cheers to your channel and the mutual love you have shown us on our channel (Previously called Old Soles Travel). - Bear
I'm excited for this series! While we made it to Thailand and Vietnam this year, we missed Laos and I can't wait to learn more about it. I was there briefly as a 22-year-old backpacker, but I don't remember much. How did you find the food? I'm sure you'll cover more of it! Tough luck in this episode lol, but can't wait to see some more of your favorite dishes.
Happy New Year! Good to see you're back after a short break. This video was well made and gave lots of info. Pity you didn't get your sandwich, a roll instead- haha. The scenery and Laos itself look amazing! Thanks for the time and effort you spend in presenting such great content.
i like this video and im from Laos , actually about food you go there in night market , they just only sale clothes but food is in other side across road....but walk thought those part , we called SI-HOM strees food
I'm a Filipino and I just want to correct you regarding the way we call dogs in our language. AsKal is a shortened term for "Asong Kalye", which literally mean street dog and people in our country equates it to being stray dogs just because they're not pure breed, and today we don't want to use such term because not all dogs are street/stray dogs. Instead we call dogs who don't have a specific breed as Aspin which translates to "Asong Pinoy". And dog in Filipino translates to "Aso". Anyways, nice vlog!
Hey I'm actually Laos in Luang Prabang. I have test your Sandwich recommendation and I also have meet your lovely dog friend. The trip to the waterfall was ok but overall tourists so not a single quiet moment possible. Thanks for your Video
Hey this is awesome that you went there and saw my video!! Thank you!!! Wait, you saw my dog friend?? The white one?? Please tell me how he is I think about him at least every few days. He’s one of my favourite things, if I had a house he is the first dog I would go and pick up and adopt 🥹🥹🥹🥹🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@josieliftsthings yes Im sure that's the white dog of your video. We stay actually Villa Khoun Sak I will take a picture and can send it. We. Will leave around Sunday luang Prabang and drive into vang Vieng. Yesterday your dog was good in shape. Together with a other dog they was following us as we was walk into the big street to the night market.
I was just there a couple months ago, I believe you guys were walking down towards the beginning of where the night market was. The food area was at the other end of the markets and you had to cross the lights.
Can you visit Thatluang next? There's a market, a monument and a few fast food places, I recommend Texas Fried Chicken Just a suggestion, no need to do it :)
I’m so glad it’s helpful! I got hate from someone else the other day for showing this but that’s exactly why I show it, to help others, I had no idea how to do it or what prices I could etc at the start so happy to have helped you. Thank you for leaving this comment, this helped me! 😁😁🙏🏻
From 1964 to 1973, the U.S. dropped over two million tons of ordinance on Laos, making it the most heavily bombed country per capita in history. The bombing caused enormous damage to the country and had long-term effects on its people, with unexploded ordnance continuing to cause casualties and hinder development even today.
@@khampanhkhonesavanh6036 I think it was easier for me because I know the most Thai, and Thai is very similar so it was easier as I already learnt something like it! 😁

The local term for dogs in the Philippines depends on which part of the country you’re at/from. For Tagalog speaking Filipinos (the majority of Filipinos in Luzon) dogs are called “aso”. For Waray speaking Filipinos, or those from the Eastern Visayas region, dogs are called “ayam”. For Cebuano speaking ones, they call it “iro”. Askal on the other hand is a colloquial term for stray dogs. It’s a combination of two Tagalog words: Aso (dog) + kalye (street).
Head to Cafe Tuoi when you’re in Luang Prabang. The Laotian food is really good last I recall. La Bennetone cafe which is a French bakery is nice too if you fancy that.
Hello Josie and Mike, Love your videos. When i am haggling for prices such as tuktuk ride. Good way to get a sense of the current going rate, I offer what I think or have read the cost is and when the driver counters offers, just walk away. If they call me back it means I are within or over the current rate. If he doesn't call me back then i know i have low ball them.
I recommend both, honestly, haha but it depends on what you’re after. Laos is VERY quiet, low key, could be boring to some depending on how you travel or what you like. Vietnam is busy busy, both are beautiful!
most of these restaurants owner in laos are vietnamese imigrants third or fourth generation that is why you will find alot of food similar to what you had in vietnam........
Laos is a country everyone should visit once in their lifetime, greetings from Thailand🇹🇭
