Who still watches old western in 2024? I love Gregory Peck , he was one of the best actors of all time. Legend. I still love those old movies ....from Fort Worth, Texas
I came across this movie and read the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It only got a 50% . I watched it and absolutely enjoyed the movie. Like everything else in life, you have to make up your own mind. You can never go wrong with Gregory Peck!
"Big Country," "To Kill A Mockingbird," "Captain Horatio Hornblower," "The Omen" and ""The Boys from Brazil," to name just a few of Gregory Peck's movie credits. My all time favorite actor. If he is in the cast the movie is gonna be worth watching!
On the Beach is also a good one. Just saw Big Country on TH-cam. They will make you pay for Mockingbird & Hornblower. Have DVD Player - Go rent from a Library.
It is not hard to decide about watching a movie or not. If Gregory Peck is in it, it’s a movie worth to spend some time watching it. I started knowing Gregory Peck in a movie with Jennifer Jonse called Duel In the Sun filmed in 1948, 74 years ago. I saw the movie in 1954 and ever since I have seen every movie in which he was in except this one. I am very glad I got a chance to see this one in not wide screen, but on my iPad. Thanks you for giving me this chance.

Great movie with Gregory Peck in it. There is some romance too, but I am glad they didn't make a melodrama out of it. Thanks Grjngo. You guys are amazing. My friends keep complaining that I don't go out with them to party any more on Friday nights. I said, "Blame it all on Grjngo".
From Fort Worth, Texas. Gregory Peck - legend and icon of the golden age of Hollywood .I still love this actor. RIP Gregory Peck. ( 1916 - 2003) California
I love these old movies! The innocence of this generation is wonderful. Watching Peck "fling" bullets with his revolver....priceless! Always removing the rifle from his shoulder to re-cock it (my first rifle was a Winchester and it was easy to cock in the shooting position). None of the horses ever getting shot. My grandfather was a cavalry officer (I am very old) and he told me "we always aimed for the horses because they were bigger targets....if the fall didn't kill the troopers, we'd get them on foot".
Whenever I am not feeling well, I always put on the old spaghetti westerns and lay in bed. Same when I am stressed out. You can't beat the acting and scenes back then. This is when movies were good.
This man is a legend. As a child I watched Moby Dick with Gregory Peck as Captain Ahab nowadays the special effects would seem quite tame but,as a child they were amazing. Amazing was Gregory Peck in that film as the paranoid captain searching for that whale, superb acting..
Had to watch it in bits and pieces but I finally got it done. Extremely well written, well executed, directed and acted. Not overpowered with fake computer generated music like today's Hollywood trash, music only where necessary. Not politically correct, but it is historically accurate in most ways.
@@masoodshah9322 This isn't one of the better ones No Big Country,, or Gunfighter, for sure. They spend all their time bogged down arguing...too tedious. Looked like Ward Bond was hitting the Firewater the whole time on set.
Just another full of action Hollywood action yarn with the United States Army fielding Winchester Model 92 lever carbines, which never happened, as the Indian wars ended long before John Browning developed the Model 92. However, I’ve always enjoyed a good shoot ‘em western, and back in the ‘50’s when I was a kid, this film was one of my favorites. Great cast, and enjoyed seeing it again…. 😊

I like Barbara Payton in this. And Gregory Peck and Ward Bond of course. Made in 1951. Jeff Corey is convincing as the old wizened scout and advisor. This film shows how difficult and costly it was to win the West from the Apache (and other tribes). Of course, it cost those tribes far more in the long run as they lost everything. But it was a real fight with wins and losses on both sides.
I saw this film, a long while ago, in black and white. It was good to see a slimmer Ward Bond in an undisciplined role. What a contrast to his later films, leading wagon trains. I wonder if Gregory Peck was as stiff as in his film roles, in real life. He once had the role of Horatio Hornblower, as a sea Capltain, and was equally wooden. However, the ladies, and film studios liked him, so he must have had a quality, that I never understood. This film was an unusual western in that it analysed the characters , in depth, of that group of men. Most enjoyable. Thanks for posting it.
He was gorgeous, graceful & elegant. He glowed like full of light on inside like all great actors. It’s called “ star power”Benedict Cumberbatch has it, too... Kelly Riley glitters like she’s covered in gold dust.

Such comic relief from a potentially violent situation!

At 1.32.14 mark when the pass exploded, it looks like Peck is wearing a brown hat and in the next clip it appears his hat is blue again. Also at 1.37.30 Ward Bond gets show with an arrow in his right shoulder but Peck removes it from his left.
Barbara Payton had one of the most meteoric HW careers a pulchritudinous bleach blond female ever had. In 1949, the western screen loved her beauty and brashness. As Steve Cochran's moll in 'Dallas 1950', she was marvelous. But by 1953, her comet had lost its tail. Afterward, she was out of control and finally drank herself to death in 1967 at age 39.
