Hello and welcome to Week #2 of my NO SPEND Pantry Challenge! I have been following the wildfires in Los Angeles and thought I would include an American Red Cross Link in case you wanted to donate to help out. My thoughts are with all those affected by this horrible disaster 🧡 www.redcross.org/donate/disaster-relief.html/?cid=disaster&med=cpc&source=google&scode=RSG00000E017&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkJO8BhCGARIsAMkswyhKLTI3waxMT8CYwqiyAEOjxudcYpwpGRcAZL0JnAJrVUIGJh6N6w4aApYFEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
i love using the cream cheese in the crockpot! Add a few chicken breasts, block of cream cheese and a jar of pasta sauce. Let it cook on low for 6 hours. Remove chicken and shred then add some cooked pasta! So great and reheats well :D
Some homesteaders told me the best way to cook chicken ( or rabbit) in the crockpot is to layer chicken pieces in the pot, beat a block (8 oz) of cream cheese with a packet of dry buttermilk salad dressing mix and a little milk, pour that over the chicken, and cook on low all day. Delicious!
I have lots of friends and family in California I lived in LA county for 45 years it truly is sad to seem the area so devastated. I moved 8 years ago to Tennessee just because I was tired of the rat race and needed to slow down a bit and my kids needed a yard which I couldn't afford in Cali. And my kids get to live down the street from there grandmother so it worked out for the best but I am keeping California in my prayers. Great meals Jessica!
Hi Jessica! You could use some of that cream cheese to fill some Crepes. Maybe top it with some frozen strawberries from your garden. Looks like you made some delicious dishes this week. Great video, thanks for sharing! ❤
I make cream cheese filled crepes with strawberry sauce for Breakfast for dinner often. I use frozen strawberries for the sauce using 100 days of real food fruit sauce recipe. I use prudent homemakers recipe for the crepes.
Use the cream cheese to make a gooey cake, chicken buffalo pasta or a ranch cheese ball. All three are very good! You are so sweet and kind to show so much empathy and compassion for those in California dealing with the fires! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings!
The egg and tomato dish is one that would work in a frypan in the camper. Perhaps with canned tomatoes. Kudos to Mr Wanders for the shepherd's pie and being accepting of the added cheese
Not officially doing a pantry challenge, but just being mindful of what's already in the house. Made lentil soup with leftover (froze it diced up) Christmas ham. Delicious! My sister came over to eat some because her family does not enjoy soup like we do (we were raised on it). My significant other doesn't like soup either. They must have all been dropped on their heads because soup is one of my favorite food groups! LOL
I love lentil soup! Soup is such a great way to use up a variety of left over ingredients as well...pffft who doesn't like soup!! :P They just haven't found the right one yet ;)
That first recipe reminded me of a simple yet amazing recipe that my husband came up with about 20 years ago. He would gently fry diced onion in a bit of butter, add a clove or two of diced garlic once the onions softened a bit, and became slightly translucent, then he added a handful of half moon slices of zucchini. He cooked them until they were about half done and added an equal amount of fresh tomato chunks, salt, and pepper. Then he cooked it until the tomatoes softened. Then he dished it up and sprinkled grated Parmesan on top. Sometimes, we ate it on its own as an appetizer. Other times, he would serve it over pasta or slices of bread he had fried in butter, much like we do with grilled cheese sandwiches.
Hum lentil puree..how bout lentil pancakes with like a cream cheese and taziki sauce filling ... there's also deep fried lentil balls served like falafel.. lentil and bacon stew..or soup...get a container of Zatarans sea food seasoning its like oldbay but cajun style its pretty good and might dressup that dip a bit..and a dash of hot sauce perhaps
@@JessicaWanders well I do have to say. I continued watching and everything you made looked good. That dip with those rice crackers omg. I love rice crackers. And a dip like that would be a tasty treat for any occasion 😜😋
The egg dish makes me think of shakshouka. I have never made it in the oven but I will try it the next time. The mung beans and rice dish would be great with lentils too. We don’t care for old bay seasoning so we sub Tony Chachere’s seasoning instead. Great video. Thanks for sharing the great ideas. For the cream cheese you could try a Mexican street corn casserole.
It was like shakshouka, for sure! It was very easy to roast the tomatoes in the oven and then add the eggs! Thank you for the Old Bay Alternative...I think I'm going to check out a few different ones in the future because I see it called for a lot in recipes! Great suggestions!
Your comment about the lentil puree looking like mashed potatoes made me think of sweet potato biscuits 🤔... possibly sub it for the potatoes and if it works, protein biscuits with soup or stew!
My version of old bay 1btablespoon of each Paprika Onion powder Garlic powder Italian seasoning Smoked paprika 1 teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon chill powder 1 teaspoon of salt A nice pinch of chipolate pepper Mix a all together adjust to your liking.we use this on everything roasted potatoes fried potatoes french fries meatloaf hamburger pork chops chicken fish its good on everything
Wow. I always assumed that old bay seasoning was ground up bay leaf with other spices added 😂🙈 But I’ve never actually tasted it because we don’t get it in the country I live in. Hence the silly assumption.
Old bay is very expensive I will not pay $9 for 1oz of a spice thats ridiculous so I looked at its ingredients and made my own .my son literally puts it on everything
@@JessicaWanders Blend raw red lentils and salt with water, cook until it thickens like wall paper paste. Then put in square container, cool in fridge and you get a block that you can chop up and fry etc like tofu. And Worcestershire is pronounced Wuust ar sheer.
Worcestershire Sauce is pronounced Wus-ter-sheer sauce, like when you call someone a wus 😅. And yes, us Brits just call it Worcester Sauce (wuster sauce). The Shire part is pronounced sheer and never pronounced shire, unless you're a Hobbit 🤭
@@JessicaWanders yes it's one of those places where the spelling was set a centuries ago and not by the locals. So Woostasheer's spelling doesn't match reality.
Jessica that wusster shire sauce is made from Tamarind and fermented anchovies..so you can just call it fermented fish and tamarind sauce and i think we'd all know what you meant ..😅...when I was a kid i thought that sauce was...wuss in the shire sauce..and thought it was named in honor of frodo baggins😂
Smashed cooked lentils and an egg is the basis for vegetarian meatballs. Add crumbs and seasoning just as for ground beef meatballs. Whatever you like. Salt and pepper, Italian seasoning, a little ketchup, snipped parsley, minced onion, whatever you prefer. Cook gently in a little oil; they break easily.

Cream cheese plus canned salmon makes a great dip.
I put almost any bean in chili.
Mmmm salmon dip would be great on my crackers! Yes...I never restrict what beans go into chili! :P The more the merrier!

Mixed bean soup and chili come to mind when you show that many different types beans in small amounts.
That's what I was thinking after I pulled them all out! There were actually 16 different types in the video! 16 bean soup maybe??
Burnt almond. Sounds so fancy

Ohh that sounds wonderful Bev! I was just searching for a winter getaway idea this morning! Enjoy! :D
You’re gonna have to make and can that sweet chili sauce again. You haven’t oohed and ahhed that much in a long time!
