The high pitched whistle sound coming from a couple of feet would be unmistakable when heard by fighters. A fighter hitting a downed opponent after the whistle goes off should be heavily penalized! Excellent refs are difficult to come by and there are not that many of them.

It is so difficult stopping yourself from fighting when you're in the zone and is drunk in adrenaline. You haven't fought so many times or you haven't had to put your life on the line when fighting, or else you'll know how difficult it is stopping yourself immediately. It takes 2 to 3 seconds to realize your opponent is already unconscious. In that 1 or 2 seconds, you can give more than 2 to 3 blows. That's why we need good refs.

There are a lot of fighters in different sports who always act like true sportsmen, and they immediately stop when it is obvious their opponent is beaten. If you are involved in a martial art of any kind, I suggest you seek counseling if you think you're "fighting for your life." If you get so out of control that you cannot control your actions, you're not participating in a sport. You're just getting off being able to hit others, and you're sick.

The only thing I don’t like about MMA is that when they knock their opponent down and it’s clear that they can’t defend themselves they still jump on the opponent and carry on attacking them, it just seems a bit cowardly to me, fair enough if the guy who got knocked down can still fight on
