    hey is the tidal barrage essentially a smaller height version of the hydroelectric dam?

      Yes, as the tidal barrage is mainly used for generation of electricity. A normal barrage (the smaller height version of hydroelectric dam) has also the same purpose, thought not necessarily the main purpose. The only difference is that the tidal barrage is built for the purpose for the generation of electricity only from tides, while a normal barrage can generate electricity from still water.
