  • I am planting over 30 Amaryllis bulbs for the Holidays. 6 new varities for my personal collection and then planting 30 more boxed sets for gifts. I will show you how to be successful in planting and growing Amaryllis bulbs.
I ordered 3 South African Amaryllis and 3 Dutch Amaryllis bulbs. The outcome is going to be beautiful.

    Where to buy amaryllis bulbs?
I would first check your local garden center. If not there, then check out some of these reputable on-line sources.

I am new to your channel. I purchased one red red, Dutch bulb at Lidls for $7. amaryllis this past holiday season. My deceased mother in law was a school teacher, so got them as gifts from her students. She had a few in her garden in Charleston,sc when she passed away we rented out the house for 13 years, then so,d it after retiring from the Air Force.I dug them up and had them in my new garden for 19 years, there was just a few. They moved up to upper state of SC. I replanted them again, about half a dozen at that time. After 19 years they multiplied to big clumps of then about two feet wide. I’m not crazy about he variety of them, red with white star shape in centre. Now I am older I have devoted a liking of them more in retirement, so next year want to get a few more I like. The red, new purchase is of the Dutch kind and now in bloom with 2nd stem now shooting up.
Thank you for your video and I will be keeping up with them.
Happy new year! Maureen. I am English born, but love both here in Scotland., and the UK.

~50 amaryllis bulbs, with an ever growing addiction. I have some interesting flowers that you might want to see. Some pretty orange star hybids from China, which were a total con of misleading me when I ordered them online from Amazon. They are now one of my favorites. If you want pictures, I would be happy to share my passion. Good to hear that I am not alone in my hobby obsession. Regards Janet Smith.

Forgot to give you another business for 40+cm Amaryllis - Van Engelen, Inc. This is the wholesale side of John Scheepers but the public can purchase as well. Just have to purchase 3 of a variety instead of 1. Well worth checking out! Have a wonderful day!

I loved this video!! I’m obsessed with amaryllises!! My mom gave me one two years ago and I was hooked. That one put off a baby bulb 😍 and then I added 7 bulbs this year!! From Home Depot and Trader Joe’s. Plus about 15 paper white bulbs. I want to build a shelf for them 😂. And thought I had a problem. After seeing your epic collection🤔 I may need to add some more!! I don’t have a green house though. So much fun. Thank you for your channel.

My favorite amaryllis that have bloomed at my house so far are Cape Horn and Bolero. They are pink. I also really like Magical Touch it is a very dark pink or red with a whitish pink thin line around the edge of the petals.

hI, I Joined your channel late last night, last year my neighbor gave me a Red Lion bulb for Christmas, went to the local discount store. They had a shelf of them left marked to 1.99 bought a few, went back again the manager asked me Do you want a bunch of them? She said I could have them for 25 cents ea if you bought the rest of them were 8. Then I went online and bought 2 hearty bulbs Alaskian, which were white and red striped on don't have the name. Said were hearty to 10 degrees above zero but if you live in zone 6 and below dig up the bulbs. Then a guy in zone 6 leaves them in the ground and plants them about 2 inches below the crown. He was if it was supposed to get cold below 16 degrees place a lot of mulch on top. Have you tried to grow them from seeds? I have about 20-plus seedlings. I left two trays in my unheated garage thats attached to the condo. I had 2 six packs I had forgotten they are growing well. May, The little bulbs are about the size if your small fingernail. when do you plant the bulbs above the ground, they will be a year old in may

What an adventure! I have not tried growing from seed, but want to...someday! I know that it can take up to 3 years from seed to be mature enough. As for growing in the ground, I live in Zone 4b. Even the thickest of mulches wouldn't help me. I would do a bit more research on it for growing in Z6/Z7.
      Good Luck.

Great idea. I will do that in the following days maybe a week. My South African Amaryllis have started to bloom as one of my other new bulbs. What a showing, and thank you, I will do a follow up showing the blooms and the status of some of the 30 bulbs I planted.

I bought an Amaryllis bulb last year. It came in a plastic pot…already planted. It had one bloom stalk with four beautiful flowers. I wanted to keep it for next year but in the spring I transplanted it into a terracotta pot and the leaves just died. I thought I had I had killed the thing and I know that they have to get sun in order to bloom the next year. I just set the thing aside and ignored it. It was not watered from spring until December when I thought that I saw a tiny bit of green trying to come out the top of the bulb. I wasn’t sure so I watered the bulb and the thing began growing a few inches a day. It now has four long leaves but those leaves are not very strong and fell over. I staked the leaves so they wouldn’t break off but I know those leaves are not as healthy as they should be.
I give it water as needed. I gave it some fertilizer and even gave it a grow light and nothing seems to help those leaves to get greener and stronger. I know that it will not grow a bloom stalk this year but I do not know how to help this bulb and its leaves to get stronger.

    • @SuccessfulGardens1
      @SuccessfulGardens1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Staking the long leaves is the best thing to do. Keeping it watered and then fertilizing it once a month will help. When weather allows you can move it outside for the summer weather. Stop watering in late Aug, first of Sept and at this time you could go ahead and cut off any reamaining leaves. Don't start watering again until about the 1st of Nov.
      Good luck.
