- Weeds are some of our most powerful and most loved medicines and self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) is a fantastic example of this.
So I was really happy when my guest today, Caroline Gagnon, chose the beautiful and unassuming self heal as the focus herb for this episode.
Do you already love self-heal? After listening in, I have no doubt you’ll catch Caroline’s enthusiasm for this lovely herb! As you’ll see, she includes self-heal in herbal formulations for all sorts of health concerns, everything from chronic ear infections to menopausal night sweats.
I was seriously blown away with all she had to share about this amazing plant!
Caroline even explains how self-heal can even play a part in helping the brain to recover from concussion. In fact, there’s a free, downloadable and printable recipe card for Caroline’s Brain Support Tincture Blend available just for you. You can find it in the resources section below.
That’s a lot of healing power from one little plant!
By the end of this episode, you’ll know:
► Caroline’s favorite blend of herbs to address an upper respiratory infection
► How self heal supported Caroline on her own healing journey
► How self heal supports the lymphatic system… and why that matters
► What parts of the plant Caroline harvests to make self heal tincture
► The unexpected healing gift herbalists offer to the people they work with
► and so much more…

Planted self heal in new beds couple weeks ago. Really hope they come up. Funny thing that I literaly put people to sleep when starting passionly talk about plants, noone want to hear it. Well their loss, I cannot get enough of plants, all I want to do is to be around them, feel them, breathe them, make medicine with them. Thank you for another great guest.
I relate to your comment. We are out there.
we get you Valerie,,,we have awakened to the divine connections of nature responding to our needs..it is our Creator's gift!
I have 1 friend that is slightly interested in herbs and i think im either getting her more into them or starting to annoy her XD
I also just ordered seeds off of etsy. But I'm also finding it out in my yard
I'll listen! That's all I talk about too! Lol I have 3 sons and that's all they hear about. And everyone else I know. 😊
I have tons of Self heal up and down the road I live on and in my yard a few. Watching them to get when blooms are all on them. I am blessed and knew God had placed it for me. A sign from the provider ...Jesus!
My side and back yard are covered with Self Heal. I had always wondered what the funny little purple plant was. It gets mowed down but keeps coming back. Now I will be harvesting it.
I'm blown away by this herb! Why aren't we told this stuff? While listening to this episode as I was doing housework, I kept wandering into my partner's office saying - Listen to this podcast and what a wonderful herb this is! Isn't this amazing? I can see how Self heal could help so many people in my life, including me. Thank you Caroline and Rosalee for opening my eyes to the gifts of Self heal.
I found Self-heal last year on my property. I did harvest it and dried it. I just had a cup because my lymph nodes in the right side of my neck are swollen and tender. ♥ Self-heal is amazing. Thank you both for the wonderful information. It is always good to learn something new about an herb and research it.
Self-heal is my favorite and now I have many more reasons to love it. Thank you for the practical uses.
I'd love to know know the formulas that Caroline mentioned here that uses self-heal.
loved this one have watched it a few times now. I'm definitely going to bring some home this spring and dry them. Have you had anyone come on yet to talk about periodontal diseases/gum health. That would be a really helpful topic. I'm reading about some herbs in the National Library of Medicine but you know how that goes.
I found self heal plants at Strictly Medical Herbs. I decided to grow my own.
I just purchased self heal seeds from Mountain Rose Herbs last week. I dont get enough growing on my property
After a serious TBI that left my brain like that of a new-born baby, I am constantly on a mission to find anything that will improve my balance, memory and restore my sense such as hunger, taste, smell, cold and heat. But mainly my lack of sleep. I am so eager to make Self Heal Tincture. Thank you for all this information. I went to a world renowned TBI clinic, CognitiveFX, in Provo Utah and they helped me so much but now 6 years later I still have problems and am forever learning all I can to heal my brain.
Pdcm72, lion's mane, DHA, wholefood b vitamins.
@@alireid5874 Thank for these suggestions. I do take most of them, but not the Lion's Mane mushrooms. I do have some that I put in my husband's smoothies and yogurt and will start taking myself. Thank you again.
Self heal has the same properties of the medicinal mushrooms
Those final thoughts filled my heart and spirit as a fledgling herbalist… I walk my land and obsess over all the plants growing, research, experiment… then self doubt creeps in, so your message to share the herbs is so poignant! thank you. Merci ☺️
The herbal toad also carries self-heal named heal all.
Can self heal work for seizures
what a wonderful episode - I literally got chills experiencing Carole's love, respect, and understanding for this herb. Loved it and thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I have to go looking now for this great herb. It looks familiar to me might have it.
This was wonderful and so informative. I am now searching for self heal.. and need to grow as well. I am always sad every time the program ends, i always want more. The conversation and knowledge was beautiful. TY
For anyone looking to buy some, I always buy my self-heal from Reverie Farm. Perhaps if there's high demand they will start planting more.
I am interested in combing self heal with mullein root (Thank you to Jim McDonald) to deal with some arm tingling and recurring lymph issue years following surgery and radiation on the tonsils. How do I learn how to formulate this mixture?
I have obtained the plants growing in fields, yards and along the creek side. I dug up some and transplanted them in my gardens. When I moved, the next spring they volunteered in many of my pots beside other plants.
They seem to like your space!
~Karin Rose
We found self-heal in our field last year. My dad had a TBI many years ago. I know that can cause issues years later. Do you think it might help him if it was something he took long term? He loves teas ❤
So much in this interview that I needed to hear 💚 love you both 🥰 I just found some Self Heal seeds on Amazon and am really excited to sow them because the only Self Heal on my property grows in the gravel driveway. My loved ones are about to start getting lots of cups of Self Heal tea, and tincture, and oil... 🤭
Thank you what a wonderful insight into a beautiful plant which I have loved so much I feel i was lead intuitively to it ❤️ I once read not to take for longer than 3 months at a time can anyone give me some advice on this please 😊
I am very very fortunate and blessed to have self heal growing in our yard and field edges here in Maine. She is a gentle beauty 🌱🕊️. Thank you both!
I found a small patch in my yard. I went out every day or two to pick it. This year I’m going to put a fence around it so it doesn’t get cut off by the mower. It only gets 2” tall because my husband mowed it off every week.
I quickly ordered the dried herb from Etsy. I forgot about the seeds. I'll have to order some. I only wish that I knew a wonderful herbalist here in my area in Raeford, NC, that I could go to. I learned so much from your videos. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share yours and others' knowledge of plants.
I’m in Raleigh, NC and I have self heal. I started growing/foraging a lot of medicinal herbs this year. I consider myself to be an herbalist and can help you
Stumbled across this & skipping through as I should already be asleep, BUT I have self heal all over my property and dried it last Autumn for tea for the first time. I’m curious to now know if it could aide my brother who survived a stroke that left him with aphasia and partial paralysis. I’ll listen to all of this asap! Thank you!
A place called Reverie Farms has beautiful self heal. Just ordered some. As always, you have such incredible guests! Thank you Rosalee and Caroline!
Oh my gosh, it grows everywhere on my property (I live a little south of Mountain Rose Herbs)! Thank you for this!
Like Rosalee, I was desperate to locate Self Heal, but was unable to find it from my regular suppliers. Finally, I went to Amazon and there I found a huge 1lb bag, originating from China. Although, it does not specify organic (all the text is in Chinese) it seems to be fine, with a very natural dried scent. I figure this is what Chinese herbalist's are using. It has made a rich tincture that I am enjoying and benefiting from very much!
fab info...just ordered self heal seeds from Southern Seeds...they were half off ...$1.99.....got6 packs....cannot wait to try to grow....thanks Caroline and Rosalee!
Hope you enjoy!
Great interview and so much great information about self heal. Its one of my favorite herbs and now tbat i am going through the change ill be trying it for hot flashes. With the brown spikes..ill be hunting in my yard looking.
I’m so lucky, where I live it grows like a weed. I have so much of it in my garden and I use it all the time. I absolutely love this herb. It wouldn’t even occur to me to go to buy this from a supplier. That’s how prolific it is.
As a mental health professional, I am picturing that prunella could be helpful with people needing EMDR for their trauma. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
❤❤❤
Wonderful video and information . A huge thank you !
I started using self heal and plantain, into a balm! Works great! Reduces pain!
I was just pouring self heal infused oil into bottles when this came on. 💚🌿
I saw the recipe and it mentioned a 1:4 ratio but not the type of alcohol used. Was it Brady. vodka, or Everclear? Thanks for your response.
Hi, you'll use tinctures made with 1:4 ratio in order to create the recipe Caroline shared. You are mixing already-made tinctures for this recipe.
~Karin Rose
Thanks for this valuable information. I collect and dry heal all for a topical cream. I will now be adding it to my herbal tea blend as well!
That sounds like a great addition!
~Karin Rose
I have been getting it out there! I found it growing wild in a gramma's lawn a bunch of years ago and have been growing it since...I just spotted my first bloom of the season this morning! Synchronicity! I am totally obsessed with self heal too! 💚
That is awesome!
beautiful conversation !
I have it growing wild in my yard and just dehydrate it
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing Caroline Gagnon with us!
self heal herb - another name.
Prunella vulgaris (Latin)
Am going to a spot on Thursday 8/8 to harvest self heal flowers and leaf. So happy to have come across this information. Thank you.
This was a favorite episode for me! So glad you found us in time for your harvest. In a couple weeks I'll have another herbalist, Richard, sharing about Self-Heal so be sure to look at for that too. It was another fantastic conversation that covered a lot!
I feel so empowered after watching your interviews. I will definitely be harvesting more self heal this year. Thank you for another amazing episode
Wonderful!
My fav tea is self heal with ground ivy. I love the taste of ground ivy . I have a yard full. Yeehaw!
What kind of ground ivy and what does it help with?
Do you mean “creeping Charlie”? We have that here, too and I love that smell and taste, too
Ton entrevue avec Rosalee est incroyable Caro! Bravo! 🙌💫
Most Europeans are into herbs
Mountain rose herbs does sell self heal.
I've seen it listed on their site but I've never seen it in stock. Hopefully they'll get some this growing season.
THANK YOU. GOD BLESS YOU FOR THE INFORMATION
You are very welcome
Mountain Rose has the seeds
Yup want it now
We have this wild “weed” growing everywhere on our 10 acres!
Lucky!!!!
@@HerbsWithRosalee the only problem is that I didn’t know what it was and it’s benefits till I watched your video. It’s done blooming now and I can’t find it out in the horse pastures now. Next year for sure I will be collecting that stuff 😁🎉
Merci!
Thank you for that wonderful conversation, and also, I am so happy to hear about self heal, as I have not been able to find much info on her. Coincidentally, I was also looking for help with Liver fire rising due to my eye issues, Thank you, thank you
Did she mention how long you can take the tincture? I have one made and am hoping to start off with 1/2 tsp and work up to 1/2 tsp twice a day. But I am not sure for how long I can do that safely?
You can take self-heal for a long time, years even. Very safe!
Thank you! ❤
