I stopped using a bow quiver because it kept ripping out hairs from my bow - I hate that! - nearly drove me mad. It was a decent quality leather one too.
Now I use a belt hook (available from Gollihur) - and have never looked back. Once I got used to it - I found it easier to use than the quiver. David Allen Moore uses one. That's where I got the inspiration. Thanks David.

I feel like there may be some user error afoot. I’ve used several models of bow quivers on several bases with different bows, and never once recall losing a hair due to a quiver.

For my students I always used black elastic to tie on the Bow Quiver instead of the leather tie - cheap, easy to tie-in-a-bow for easy adjustment, removal, and replacement.

When I am plugged into an amp and I set the bow in the quiver, it makes a sound through my amp. Therefore, I do not use a quiver. There is a hook on my bass stand that works just fine or I just hold the bow while playing simple pizzicato parts.

I've been using the same quiver as shown in the video for years. I also don't remember where I got it-but almost certainly from Lemur Music. I too had heard the myth that it affects my tone, but I agree with Jason that other things have a much larger effect, in-bridge pickups especially. I will remove the quiver when recording if I am close-miked because sometimes a little rubbing can be heard. But in concert on stage with a symphony orchestra or playing a wedding reception with a jazz group, the quiver is the least of my tonal worries. Also agree that when for whatever reason I'm quiver-free, the muscle memory of tossing the bow into the quiver is strong and dangerous! Practice your best in the moment awareness so that you don't mess up your bow!
Interesting comment from @Pensivata; I have not had that problem, but I do wonder about the leather edge of the quiver wiping off my rosin. That edge does get dusty, but I have not actually found it to be a problem. Hair up vs. hair down / French vs. German makes a difference; as does your need to quickly move from having the bow in the quiver to quickly picking it up and playing with it. But these transitions can be practiced, just like any other skill on the instrument.
I recently saw a colleague using a hook which he fastened to the music stand. Very similar to the idea that @steveleeatfullmeasure presented. That seems like another good approach, although I'm sure he wouldn't be able to transition from bow in hand to bow in stand as quickly as I can with the quiver.

I have mine attached to my music stand. Still nearby, and not flopping around when I move.

Couldn’t get by without one…especially doing shows…too many fast switches..

Yeah! Had a music director once comment on how fast I could switch from pizz to arco. As if he had never seen anyone do that before (maybe he hadn't!).

@@JacqueHarperbecause you came prepared with the right equipment (quiver) 😊😊

Yeah, don't use one bc it's not "traditional." Or, is is that the quiver might interfere with your other "traditional" equipment? Yoga blocks, foot stools, custom block-elevated stools...

Use a belt hook instead. Don't hang junk on your bridge!
