I love this! I've always wanted to see more variants of genasi being influenced by other planar energies. I can't wait for the following videos on the lower planes, maybe ones on the shadowfell, feywild, astral sea, dreams and the ethereal?
As for which one i would choose... it would have to be the mechanus variant. I love the idea of a metal genasi and how they embody the influences of planar law.

I respect the hustle to rewrite Genasi lore, as they are my absolute favorite race to play in DnD. In my homebrew setting I don't have Genie as a concept so I also had to rewrite their lore to fit in the setting. They are remnants of Gods long gone, almost like an imprint left behind for their few remaining followers, meaning they are few in number but highly revered in religious circles. Still an early idea in progress but my players love it so far

@@willmackinnon9397 thanks, but the real reason is just because I wanted to make a cosmic subrace for it called an Astral Genasi that has purple skin and glowing freckles across the body in the patterns of constellations, just cuz I thought it would be cool. the idea for them originated from the Sirens in Borderlands, which is why they are few in number but worshiped heavily by certain circles. I basically rewrote the entire Genasi lore based around the Astral Genasi's origins since space isn't really an elemental plane. They are also the only all female race in my setting, just like Sirens from Borderlands

ok so like as an old dnd player. not physically old and 23 but I've been playing since I was 11 and played a lot of 2e 3.5e and 4th this idea already exists in dnd. genasi are part of a group of races called plantouched introduced in Planescape and expanded in spelljammer. teifling and assamar are also plantouched. there are genasi for all para and quasi elemental planes officially in older additions and they make references to genasi existing for all elemental planes as there are an infinite number and the para and quasi are examples of mixed planes used in lore books.
planetouched also tends to be race and exterplainer based. so teiflings and assamar are generic player races touched by the planes options but stuff like Azerblood are specific to dwarfs touched by the plane for fire. we see a lot of plane touched races in the monster manuals the above-mentioned Azerblood but Tanarukk(orc demon), Worghest(goblin demon), Durzagon(dwarf devil), and Draegloth(drow demon) among many more are all planetouched races from previous editions
planetouched races were one of those old dnd things designed to be highly customizable and easily homebrewed. genasi, tefiling, assamar, mechanatrixes(lawful planes like mechinus), and chaosnids(chaos planes) were all designed as generic plane touched options. tho generic as a bit different back then because of how they treated the planes. with other plane touched being added in lore books and novels as specific options that can happen for some races. for example, halflings had their own kind of genasi the di'hir'in.
There are also a whole actigory a planetouched dragons in lore. The shadow dragon for the 5e monstermanual is one of them. tho shadow dragons existed before planetouched was written into the lore and were retroactively added to a series of articles on planetouched dragons.
if you can't tell i love the planetouched races becuase they are so deep with rp potentail you can be born one of become one they can vary so much. its an amazing idea and I hope wotc give us more of them. id personaly love to see 6e in 10+years have the genasi teiflings aassamar mechanatrixes and chaosnids as core races. preferable with the later two getting modernized and no having such terrible names.
please mind any spelling mistakes in these terrible to-write names.

This made me think of an idea as to how Dragons and giants work. I like to think a human and salamander of some sort got thrown into the elemental chaos and got divided and imbued with elemental magic. They then became the dragons and giants we know today. It sounds a whole lot more haphazard how I explained it but the humanoid and salamander would be treated as some ancient explorers or something to make it seem more mystical. An ancient Beast Master even?

I'm all for fun new takes on things, but i am occasionally irked by sincere complaints on why X isn't Y... It's because lore. And rules. Rules in lore. Lore that your GM may ignore or change if you ask them, but it's what's been written to make one thing different than another, rather than everything working exactly the same way.

@@TheClericCorner my first thought was data, a realm of knowledge. Metal is obsessed with structural perfection while life is by nature change and thus chaotic while at the same time organizing things from a state of chaos. Data is by nature orderly, everything is or is not, but at the same time it is knowledge and data can be changed, defraged, reformatted, overwritten, duplicated, corrupted, wiped, restored, retrieved, and reassembled. Contrary to what many believe there is not a strick division between order and chaos but rather a scale depending on how many rules are placed upon an object. Those that come from here are responsible for things that were not alive becoming alive, guiding one's growth into a better version of themselves, and having one's appearance reflect their nature or goodness. For to them the question of whether something has a soul and is thus alive is always yes if they wish. In this realm there may be subsection dedicated to stuff like androids and biodroids that flow into each other, and there is no division between sea and sky there. The genies and genasi of this plane are among the most beautiful and physically attractive with caring and goofy personalities to match which is the opposite of their negative counterparts which uses beauty and vanity to hide the ugliness within. Those that came about through them or have prolonged relations with one shall always end up as a highly attractive bombshell as long as they remain good people. They also think that randomly switching the gender values or switching a kingdom's to all female for a year or two is funny. So if anyone wonders why suddenly after a calamity just about everything becomes cute and well endowed girls that start to mysteriously multiply like rabbits then it is likely because someone made a wish with those genies. These digital genies could be considered an evolution of lightning as their title is "child of thought and thunder" and their forms are always highly feminine due to their role of bringing life into what was once lifeless through wishes. Even though their realm is inherently orderly the layout does often match the bizarreness you can find in the dream world.
This is my first thought and it may have gotten away from me a little.

...They're called aasimar. Humans mutated by exposure to the upper planes is literally the origin of aasimar. The lower planes cause tieflings. Everybody just cottons onto the "your ancestor was a celestial or a fiend" sub-branch of their lore because sex attracts people. You've literally reinvented aasimar, and called them genasi.
