Bar-Kays were the Isaac Hayes Stax Records
backing band. Definitely were on the cusp of the Black Rock Funk tradition.

Just stumbled upon your channel. Enjoyed YOUR enjoyment of this classic 1978 funk classic. Don’t know what you guys were listening to in ‘78; but, if it wasn’t P-Funk; Earth, Wind & Fire; Bar-Kay’s; Cameo; Rick James; Brick, or The Commodores?!?
You weren’t funkin’.
Since this is your intro to the BarKays, your next stop should be the first lp the band made AFTER a plane crash killed Otis Redding and 3 of their band members. The album was their foray into the hardcore funk scene.
The lp, “Too Hot To Stop” would be their first step into the funk (and don’t you dare call it “Disco”!!!).
From that album, I recommend:
“Too Hot Too Stop”; “Spellbound”;
“You’re So Sexy”; “Cozy”.
Keep in mind: this was 1977…and you are stepping into a TOTALLY different world of music that you’re unfamiliar with. So, you Dead Heads…no judging!! Only listening. This music is nearly fifty years old; but, it’s new to you.
Hopefully you’ll get around to giving it a listen. I’m having a blast with you guys. Let’s keep it going!!! 🤗👏👏🤗
