First time hearing this live version. I love him shouting out all the muscians and giving them their time. Great reaction

What a treat to hear Bernard playing live and able to go outside the boundaries of all the sessions he's done. Incredible dynamics and he's got the band in overdrive at the end. Never loses the groove. His signature triplet high hat thing is on Rock Steady by Aretha and Green Earings by Steely Dan and probably more. Jeff Porcaro's dad did a lot of sessions with Bernard and would bring young Jeff along who sat right behind him, and Bernard answered all Jeffs questions when the session was over.

King Curtis was opening for Aretha on this tour and then was the band for her show. They also recorded her show and released Aretha Live at Fillmore West that same year. Also an incredible album. In 2005 “Don’t Fight the Feeling” was released, which is all of the recordings from the three nights they were at Fillmore West. Incredible stuff.

Proud to say I have King Curtis LPs and he and his group sounded better live to me.
