- Revolver is pleased to present "No Distortion," a new video series where we invite heavy-music artists to switch off the amps, strip down the songs and showcase their more introspective side. The premiere episode features Danish composer and multi-instrumentalist Amalie Bruun, best known as folk-metal impresario Myrkur. Bruun - who's currently gearing up to release her sophomore album, Mareridt - sat down at a piano at Electric Lady Studios for a revelatory solo performance of King Diamond's 1988 classic "Welcome Home."

She is so talented,I really enjoyed this rendition,not an easy task take but she nailed it without taking the darkness of this song,very smooth but the ``creepiness`` is still there,awesome voice,just pure talent here,superb job.

I'm a huge fan of King Diamond, and I never thought a cover like this could work. But I think Myrkur totally nailed this song here! Perfect rendition of an iconic song. Myrkur herself is also 100 percent legit. There is nothing fake or imagery about what she doe at all. I watched her live show in Copenhagen when she just started out, having been unsure of the music for some time... that concert changed my view on Myrkur's music forever. Loved it!

So ... let me explain to all the funny haters how things are! And I'm not just a fan of King Diamond .... I'm a King Diamond maniac and my religion is King Diamond. Here we have a wonderful icon of GOD painted with respect for his works and at the same time presented in a different way which definitely emphasizes the divine source but showing the different character of the artist. This cover definitely allows us a darker journey in this gothic tale.

A cover is not a copy. A cover is an artists interpretation of another artist's song. It isn't supposed to sound like KD.
True, however, one who attempts to "cover" any artist has strive to either be equal or better than the original while doing justice to the artist, song, and/ or intent of lyrical content. With this *cough* cover, it just seems like no effort was made to even do any justice to this piece. Honestly, I don't think that she really understands the song or content. She seemed over her head with this one. EPIC FAIL, nice try though. I do love to listen to covers and I do find that a lot of covers are way better than the originals. On the same token, there are 4x more horrible covers that only make one ask "what the hell you are doing?!?! STOP...PLEASE STOP!!"
you are allowed your subjective opinion, and everyone should respect it.
Here is my perspective: The deal with this cover is, you also have to understand myrkur's style, like that little raised "ya" at the end of phrases, and that thin high falsetto, which is her Nordic folk music style and she uses that in a bunch of her songs, and so on. So she put her ambient BM/Nordic folk twist on this song. In the context of her songs, this is just fine. Listen to a bunch of her material and you will see why I am ok with her being her in this song version.
Just so you know, I have followed KD since the beginning, and Merciful Fate too. I have seen KD live and KD CD's get heavy rotation. Some of his material is campy and twisted comedy and borderline dumb too..
And don't worry, plenty of people absolutely hate the king. But I think he is the best musical story teller that ever existed.
jj rusy I think bands don't cover King Diamond out of respect. This cover is a great example of what's happening when you attempt to cover KD. Like the other dude said.. Epic Fail. It's impossible to reshape King's aesthetics into something else because it's too specifically designed and structured. Especially if you try to perform the vocal lines (it's easier to get away with black/death vocals but still..)
It is not impossible to reshape KD's sound, otherwise this video wouldn't exist. Like I stated to the other dude, I respect your opinion, but it is just that: your opinion. Some will like this and some will not like this. This one is for the Myrkur fans. At least we all agree that King Diamond is awesome. ps "The Graveyard" is my favorite album, (no , not Abigail which I did see live and WOW what a show...) \m/ rock on \m/

Akeley I agreed with you guys at first, but the past few weeks I've really been enjoying Myrkur's music and I think you guys are saying this is an epic fail cause there's a certain expectation there that there would be at least a little of KD in her performance, but JJ is 100% correct--imo at least--that she did this in her own Scandinavian folk-singing style.
Just for the record, she's done performances with KD in the past, I believe cause her entire family is big in the Scandinavian music industry, and Kim himself did an interview with BANGER TV where he gushed about Myrkur (among other women) in response to a question about women in metal. So they know each other, respect each other, and obviously are at least fans of each other's music; knowing that I don't think she wanted to emulate KD at all, just made this version her own. In other words, she did this cover more for her fans than KD fans, and probably doesn't give a damn. I mean, come on, not many people can do what King Diamond does.

It's just girl behind piano... And honestly when she started singing it reminded me for thousandth time how King's music is unique and divine. I remember this song being one of my favorite songs in my teenage years. But I feel very confident that King Diamond himself would say that this version is more haunting, more dark and more sinister. I guess when she does it it comes across more like a story then the earlier version by King Diamond
