The sadest thing is these cars were probably collected and stored when they weren't worth much to anyone. Probably not the best comment to make without knowing the circumstances behind family and government politics, after my Grandfather passed. Also, local council and the epa shut the yard down permanently due to re zoning of the land, that battle still continues to this day. Some of these cars have sentimental value, and have become victims of time.

I really liked the video Mick, but at the same time it makes me sad. You’re 100% right though, that XB GT bonnet and wheel in ‘95 might have been worth $100 and not the $2500 they are now. I remember buying several from the Trading Post just to have them. What really hits me though is that at one time, all those cars were brand new. Some would have been someone’s absolute pride and joy but because the repair costs 30 years ago outweighed the value of the car, those old cars have been left to rot.
They have been left to rot and as sad as that is most wrecking yards looked like that in the early/mid 90s except they then crushed the cars that were no longer deemed to have many valuable parts.
Many Modern Cars made today, seem to end-up in Scrapyards prematurely, due to electronic failures and other complexities, that make them Beyond Economical Repair. That's why I have driven a 1971 Beetle (now a Tesla-powered EV) for the last 20 years. I lost faith in modern cars, as the plastic engine parts fail, and other issues that fail - all at the same time.
Plenty of bespoke parts, grills and glass in that yard worth a lot of dollars to restorers and collectors. Would it be worth clearing the yard one car at a time and cataloging the parts for sale. Great video to play a drinking game naming the makes and models. 😎

You may inspire people to do the same. If you ever plan a trip across the pond to New Zealand, I highly recommend Horopito Motors. Mick, your "some sort of Morris" at about 18 mins was a Wolseley I think. Absolutely a fantastic adventure, a Disney land for an old car enthusiast, but nothing there that a bit of "cut and polish" wouldn't fix. Great stuff but sad to see them "all return to the earth".
@@backshed5295 A Wolseley 6/80 by the looks. Much better steel that the Holdens and Fords and a heavy car as a result. Top centre of the grill would have been the Wolseley badge, which all Wolseleys has since the 20's. These grill badges lit up and the company marketed them as the car with its name up in lights. Thanks for the video Mick. Always enjoy them.

Interesting and fascinating. The bicycle was the only salvagable vehicle. The rest was merely a jungle interwoven with rubber, plastic, glass and rusting metal and the odd bit of nob ferrous alloy and some corrugated sheets. For me, the only items which had utility were the corrugated iron sheets because they could still be used to create shelter for humans.
Reminded me of the day Gold Coast Wreckers (Pink FX on Verandah) had an open day back 2014 i think. Cars completely rusted out but plenty of useable trim pieces. Complete cars left rot into the ground. Was such a shame to see.
So sad to see so many models I grew up with as a kid just wasting away. They were someone’s pride and joy at some stage. Just shows what rainfall and humidity can do in 30 to 40 yrs. Noticed a lack of Japanese cars from that era. Wrecking yards won’t look like this in 40 yrs. Too many different brands and models now compared with the main three back then.

Brilliant! Thanks. PS. In response to another comment below (above?): This video on its own makes for a pretty good "catalogue"! I wonder how many parts enquiries you'll get from this alone...
35:25 - orange rear guard and front guard from a Type 3 VW, then a White bonnet from one as well. 25 years ago we didn't even consider we'd want most of what was in this yard.
As Mick said, most of these cars actually were bought or collected in a time when retrieval cost more than the car was worth. It was a family owned wrecking yard for many years, until my Grandfather passed away. A combination of family members, local council and the epa forced the business to close permanently. We’ve managed some successful trade weekends over the years, opening up to car clubs etc, but being in a coastal environment, time is our enemy. My Uncle is still sourcing useful parts to be sold at local swap meets when he can, but the property has also fallen victim to theft and vandalism since its closure.
My heart aches lots of parts out there, people just can't find ,always had a soft spot for the minis awesome little cars sad to see them rotting away out there, takes me back to when i was 15 cruising around in my $150 850cc mini
Hi Mick. Yep, truly a sad one, that. In some ways, it's like walking through a graveyard as you said, but to me it is almost like they dug all the bodies up. You sort-of want to look at them out of morbid fascination, but largely you just want to look away. On a more positive note, there is certainly a lot of trim and glass and such that - if the bloke was keen enough - could make him a small mint. I reckon there would be a lot of takers out there for some of the stuff you unearthed or that is indeed still in the cars and a fair bit was still worth saving from the scrappy. It's been a long time since I saw that many roofs of cars rotted to the extent that they fell inside or where the car itself snaps in half at the firewall. Thought New Zealand had the monopoly on that one in this part of the world, but obviously not! Thanks for taking us along ,mate. It was certainly a bit of fun in the guessing what you'd found before you said it. Some were definitely a bit of a challenge, but that one past the bees that you first called a Morris is actually a Wolseley 4/50 or 6/80 from the late 40s / early 50s. They look like a big Morris Minor and are basically the Morris Oxford of the period with a different nose. Pretty rare now. That bloke loved his Minis, eh? And that big mobile multi-storey gantry / scaffold contraption he built - what on earth would it be used for?? Did he tell you? Funny thing though, I've seen channels where blokes in the UK have found the likes of the Triumph Dolomite Sprint you found (another VERY rare car and somewhat of a collector's item) or a Mini in the condition on the video and have set about reclaiming them and rebuilding them from the ground up. In the case of the Mini, all parts are still readily available in the UK - including every panel to make a compete shell....but what original parts would still be useable? Not an awful lot, I'm picking. Anyway, I've written a book again, so I will sign off! All the best, mate.
@backshed5295 yeah it's the little items, like a period radio id like, ( vg pacer with 70s mods like my dad would have made) but, local to me, an old school wrecker is closing his doors. Classic Oz wreck, if you or anyone wants some old Holden stuff. He wants out by June this year.
Yes a different video. Worth capturing it and sharing though. Vey rusty cars but as you said glass, trim and other parts worth saving but who will do it. sorting through that jungle would be a task in it's self.
Brings back memories, I bought a xb gs that was a trade in from the ford dealership in Dalby, 1978. The horn was activated by pressing anywhere on a rubberised ring on the inner part of the steering wheel. It was pretty well fucked at three years old.
Great vid as usual definitely a lot of good bits still there I really want to take my charger or my xb ute for a drive to outback pubs I’m thinking maybe the ute because I could also put my 74 tm400 in the back or my 75 Bultaco pursang there’s still a lot of cool old stuff about just got to talk to the right people.
Absolute treasure of a abandon junk yard. Truly so sad to see those vehicles just left to rot. It would be a massive clean up to salvage any decent parts for resale. Great video, Mick....
That's a bloody shame, so many wasted cars that could've & should've been used to rescue other cars. At least the good bits should be salvaged before they go to the dogs too. Cheers.
Way worth gathering all loose pieces and taking them out for collectors to bid on to fund the clean up of parts and yard itself, tip paint pen label glasses and remove any you can
does someone still own this gem of rust ? would it be worth an offer to buy ? if the forrest was cut back to expose the things in this, great that you found it

100% right mate 🍺🍺👍
As Mick said, most of these cars actually were bought or collected in a time when retrieval cost more than the car was worth. It was a family owned wrecking yard for many years, until my Grandfather passed away. A combination of family members, local council and the epa forced the business to close permanently. We’ve managed some successful trade weekends over the years, opening up to car clubs etc, but being in a coastal environment, time is our enemy. My Uncle is still sourcing useful parts to be sold at local swap meets when he can, but the property has also fallen victim to theft and vandalism since its closure.
100% mate , contact me through fb or instagram backshedmick if you’d like too yarn maore mate🍺🍺👍
My heart aches lots of parts out there, people just can't find ,always had a soft spot for the minis awesome little cars sad to see them rotting away out there, takes me back to when i was 15 cruising around in my $150 850cc mini
Yep there is a lot of small pieces you cant find and they are all right there but nothing getting done , does make me a little sad🍺👍
Wow.. what a graveyard for so many classics.
I'd be too scared of any snakes to go that deep in there 😅
I try not to over think it mate . 🍺🍺👍
Hahah yep but i read them everytime mate🍺🍺👍
How sad was that, I think I would have shed a tear is you found the rusted away skeleton of an XA XB XC Coupe.
Me too mate , the charger was bad enough🍺👍
Loved your video would like to walk that my self. 😢
🍺🍺👍
Great vid, would love one of those old push button radios for my valiant.
There was heaps of little parts that would be of use to someone somewhere mate it was a little sad really🍺🍺👍👍
@backshed5295 yeah it's the little items, like a period radio id like, ( vg pacer with 70s mods like my dad would have made)
but, local to me, an old school wrecker is closing his doors.
Classic Oz wreck, if you or anyone wants some old Holden stuff. He wants out by June this year.
Ill look it up
Yeah just jumped on his facebook , ill save his number . Not expensive at all
Haven't the steel beetles had a field day with those old cars? Still lots of usable parts there though.
Yes a different video. Worth capturing it and sharing though. Vey rusty cars but as you said glass, trim and other parts worth saving but who will do it. sorting through that jungle would be a task in it's self.
Mate it was different🍺🍺👍
Now this is Gold prospecting 🍻👍
Hahha yeah sifting through the junk to find the tiny bits of gold 🍺🍺👍
@@backshed5295 There’s a lot of irreplaceable glass windows there which can be reused 🍺🍺👍
Yep , because it was so overgrown no one has got in the and broken everything 🍺🍺👍
Brings back memories, I bought a xb gs that was a trade in from the ford dealership in Dalby, 1978. The horn was activated by pressing anywhere on a rubberised ring on the inner part of the steering wheel. It was pretty well fucked at three years old.
Hahhaha yep the rim blow set up on the wheel 👍👍🍺🍺
Great video Mick. Can you fit a six into a TA Torana? That would be awesome, cheers
Not sure mate that nose is pretty short on them🍺🍺👍
Buying the yard could be a small gold mine, looks like a lot of the part's could be really hard to find lol even with a little patina look to it 😊
🍺🍺👍
Great vid as usual definitely a lot of good bits still there I really want to take my charger or my xb ute for a drive to outback pubs I’m thinking maybe the ute because I could also put my 74 tm400 in the back or my 75 Bultaco pursang there’s still a lot of cool old stuff about just got to talk to the right people.
🍺👍
Great video mate this was amazing to see 👍
Thanks mate 🍺👍
Absolute treasure of a abandon junk yard. Truly so sad to see those vehicles just left to rot. It would be a massive clean up to salvage any decent parts for resale. Great video, Mick....
Yep now a huge job🍺🍺👍
Just few chromes, glassware and light lenses, maybe diffs etc
Yep , no bodies left at all really🍺👍
That's a bloody shame, so many wasted cars that could've & should've been used to rescue other cars. At least the good bits should be salvaged before they go to the dogs too. Cheers.
100% agreed🍺🍺👍
Aussie history going back into the earth 🌍 Evolution of the good old days into the plastic toy car days
🍺👍
It brings tears to my eyes Mick.😥😥😥
Mine too mate it was hard to look at 🍺🍺👍
First bonnet (sitting on the TA Torana) is off Centura
Yeah ya nailed it mate thats what the owner said it was for 🍺🍺👍
Mother Nature is so Beautiful 🍻
Hahahha 🍺🍺👍
the rusty relics remind me of that old T shirt " on a clear day you can hear the Holdens Rusting..."
I see VW beetle and type 3 parts....😎😎
🍺🍺👍
A great reminder of how much I *hate* lantana.
Hahha it was hell hahah🍺👍
Brought tears to my eyes seeing all those once beautiful cars reduced to almost completely unsalvageable wrecks 😢
I know mate , i promise ill make it up to you soon by saving something cool 🍺👍
@@backshed5295 Thanks Mick. Can;t wait. Love your work
I appreciate ya saying 🍺👍
XC was the same colour as my old Fairmont GXL. Not a bad car for its time even though it was only a 6.
Good cars really 🍺🍺👍 nothin wrong with a falcon 6💪🍺
The old yards are still out there, there is a similar one in Riverstone, been closed for years. All the cars on the yard are just wasting away
Yeah breaks my heart in a funny way👍🍺
Klaus had a ford wreckers in riverstone- I used to buy compact parts off him
My son is after Xr grill, it’s so sad to see those things sitting out there and I’m looking for a XA standard radio just to fill the hole in the dash
Message me mate on fb or instagram backshedmick 🍺🍺👍
Interesting place. All the parts going to waste. Parts for old cars are getting hard to come by
100% mate🍺🍺👍
Those cars are goooone!
Yep very ! 🍺🍺👍plenty of glass and parts still there
I wish you lived closer. I love some sort of help doing a 5 L conversion. You could’ve helped a blind person out and make some
Hahah🍺🍺👍
I know a guy here in Sydney that has 2 sandmans a FJ ute and various other gems just rotting away in his yard....
We all know someone like that mate , does he want them fixed ? 🍺🍺👍
Way worth gathering all loose pieces and taking them out for collectors to bid on to fund the clean up of parts and yard itself, tip paint pen label glasses and remove any you can
Love too mate , its all up to the owners of the property and unfortunately i think itll stay how it is 🍺🤷🏼♂️
Any decent parts on those escort vans ??? Keen to go through for a look with a pocket of cash.
No body parts were any good mate but body trims, dash and glass was all there 🍺👍
Those mini/ BMC wiper assemblies are worth a lot in the hot rodding world. Especially the 2 speed units.. $300 plus. Worth the effort to remove them.
There was heaps there worth saving mate 🍺🍺👍
does someone still own this gem of rust ? would it be worth an offer to buy ? if the forrest was cut back to expose the things in this, great that you found it
Yeah owned by the same people for decades🍺🍺👍
Sad !!!!! but keep up the great content
Very sad mate , cheers heaps more coming mate🍺👍
Ah love these vids . I could spend hours there 👌👌
Yeah we did and i probably missed more 🍺🍺👍
So sad seeing this but as always love the content 🤙👌
It was a little sad mate🍺🍺👍
We need to see more long roofs on the channel haha👌🍻
Great video
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
