The beauty of these films is that half the time the guys dont even need to crack a joke, they can just stay silent and let the actual dialogue do the work.

I agree. This is one of the best of season 1 and the movie has potential for a good remake. Don't forget, Oliver Stone wrote one of his first film scripts, in the same vein (pun unintended). lol
Called the hand, it's a bit like Misery, with an author losing his hand in a car crash. The film stars Michael Caine and is so so.
      It felt more like a late 70's slasher, than a 60's Sci-fi.
We get to fugitive and his movement keeps things from getting bogged down.
When we do get exposition, it's middle of the road, but the main actor is one of the Worst I've seen, in a MST3K. EP.
      TOP 20 at least.
The girls aren't aroung enough, for us to care for the rommance at the end but I've seen worse and it is a bit tragic.
The ending was a bit of a cop out and things got tied in a nice bow, similar to a sitcom! Did anyone die on screen?
I like Alan Hale and he turns up the heat, in the final showdown. He must have just seen, 'In the heat of the Night because he's thinking award season.
So are we but the Razzies don't start until the very late 70's.
I know, way too long for a TH-cam review but I wanted people to know you're not alone ;)
Although I can see why most people look down on the film but at least it isn't boring!! :)
      Cheers from Canada

beauty of these films is you can just put on the audio and if you hear "Skipper" or "little buddy" you know Alan Hale just appeared.

    • @craigasaurus2025
      @craigasaurus2025 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I call it Shatner-Style. To me its when you talk choppy and desperate, emoting impending finality, or hope, or love, or confusion. Its an old acting TRICK. William Shatner (James T. Kirk), is one of my favorite actors ever. You can read about him [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shatner, but it all comes from acting in a Shakespearian style. Whether its Lear, Hamlet, Othello or MacBeth, this is an intentional "Stall Tactic," while acting. Like in a Pinter Play, but not quite. Sometimes more is less and Silence speaks Volumes. As an actor, William Shatner is simply combining some of the many WITS into his KIRK character, as the "Bard of Avon,' might say. I guess SOMEONE other than a Shakespearian actor must have done the Shatner-Style on film long ago, like Charles Loughton or someone else, but I don't who it may have been. Other than, perhaps a Maiden tied upon the TRAIN TRACKS, or a victim placed near a TIME BOMB, or a HERO trying to reach a lever or button, the Shatner-Style is unique.

There were many actors who did decent work in legitimate films of the 40s - 60s, but lost ground after that and were relegated to roles in six-day-shoot productions or television (which was largely seen as less respectable than Hollywood).
And the guy playing the space scientist isn’t bad either … he’s playing it straight while ol’ no-buttons Peter Breck chews scenery and slaps tables.

"oh and i suppose next you'll tell me there's rings around uranus."

So the boss gives the okay for them to lie and then answers the phone.
The other 2 exit the room and I Thought I heard TOM SERVO
    say:
Good, this will give me a chance to work on those O rings.
If that's what he said, it would be a reference to the Challenger, Space Shuttle Disaster, in 1986 and would be considered by some, to be a joke in very poor taste.
Now I remember the first time I said, 'I LOVE THIS SHOW!!'

2 Puns they could have used.
#1 The Monster arm jumps out of the closet and attacks.
I think that was just a bit,
    'OVER THE TOP'
#2 End of the fight on the beach. Our protagonist walks away and passes out. Time to bid, 'A FAREWELL TO ARMS'
What do you think sirs? ;)
    Cheers from Canada

Holy shit!!! I just picked this MST3K episode completely at random to watch on 3/8. Ya know who's birthday I just heard was on 3/8? Alan Hale Jr. (Skipper, from Gilligan's Island). And who's in this episode (of all the episodes I could've picked)?? Alan Hale Jr. OMG!!! Seriously, had no idea it was his birthday, no idea he's in this movie. And it was his birthday!!! WTF!?? Freaky!! :D
