You'd think they'd be glad of the additional privacy and greenery. Especially when the only view they're missing out on is miserable grey concrete and their neighbour's front room. Maybe they just like to spy on people.
Indeed, I believe the complaint came from the neighbor that use to curb hop and park on the grass causing ruts. Of course I'm suppose to maintain this section but can literally not do anything to protect from damages. 🙃
Some of our cities have ridiculous rules. Some won't let you have a front garden or trees at all!. I am hoping that these privets are hardy enough to survive. Thanks for stopping by!
@@rsxen8990 it's insane especially with global warming. You'd think they'd want to promote green spaces and the fact that trees and plants clean up so much of the air and also help soak up rain water too reducing flooding.
@@rsxen8990 I have a little gravel garden area opposite my house and it looks onto an abandoned garden and house which is empty and up for sale. So I've just ordered 15 small 60 cm barefoot privet plants to try and block off the view. Hopefully it'll work!
1. I'm glad your neighbor didn't wait until your plants were extremely established before raising a fuss. I'm sure you didn't enjoy moving them when you did, and we (I'm in NE OK) did get that crazy cold spell and 8inches of snow a couple weeks back. I really hope they'll make it. 2. It would have looked so cool on the edge of the property, but I did notice your neighbor's car pulled into their driveway. I'm sure that would have made it impossible to see if a car was coming while backing out. 3. Once you move out of town you'll be able to do some awesome growing, until then, keep making videos!
1. Yep went through the same snow fall. Hopefully this did not kill the ones I had to move. 2. The hedge was going to be maintained at a lower height for that reason. This was one of the reasons they had tried using against me before but had pushed back with the low height. 3. I hope one day I'll be able to! Thanks for the encouragement!
That's crazy! good thing you were able to move it to "obstruction Freezone" I am from Nassau county Long Island NY area I wanted to plant these but I don't want hedges that completely dry out in the winter. I am not sure where you are located but for zone 7 would it be every green all year round?
There are some evergreen species, the seller had the wrong information on these and are not evergreen, which I thought they were. Privets are very happy in zone 7. Make sure you find out the scientific name of the plant from the seller and google it to know if they are true evergreens.
@@hohochris24 The recommended best spacing is about 1 foot apart but up to 2 foot (which I choose to do). Just means it takes a little longer but didn't want to plant +90.
Hi there. It can get to the low 10s sometimes. Currently its 30-45 degrees. There are some privets that don't lose leaves . These Amur Privets turned out to be semi-evergreen, which I wan't sure since buying online the info is wrong.
Yep. Though I guess when you beat them at their own rules they start hunting for reasons. I could've fought it with examples in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't want them to go after those people too.
That's great. We don't have paint restrictions here, but won't be surprised if one day we do. It is sad how more and more of our freedoms are taken away.

I had the same problem mate. Glad it it worked out for you in the end its hard work plating privet
why plant these invasive plants
Gosh it's so weird in the UK hedges or fences are in everyone's front garden. I'm sure they'll pull through fantastically though.

Man that blows. They look good tho! What’s the max height these can grow?
These can grow 8'-12' in height, could hide my house just about haha.. Some varieties can get even taller.
@@rsxen8990 nice! I think I’m gonna plant mine this year. What spacing would you recommend for a nice hedge wall?

@@rsxen8990 how many did you plant @ 2ft spacing?
I think for the entire front area was about 70 plants.
How many degrees in your area right now? My privet hedge mostly keeps its leaves, even though it's snowing.
