    I feel like Silence gets overlooked a lot is because the enemies you REALLY want to Silence are usually immune to status conditions. Because 3H is so Player Phase oriented, the best way to deal enemy mages is to just kill them outright.
    Don't get me wrong, it's a great spell, but it feels more like a luxury option rather than a vital one.

    • @bryanyap3888

      I would say that most of the times, silence is useless due to the reasons above, however fortunately it works on meteor enemies, and most silence users are also healers, thus they have a niche that is somewhat vital

      I like it for essentially being a reverse physic against mages. Sometimes you want to EP a few enemies but there’s a mage and if you try to kill said mage you’ll aggro a ton of other foes so being able to essentially “kill” them for a turn from afar is pretty nice.

    After doing my first NG Maddening run I can safely say the key is to find the niches characters have to essentially just ignore enemy stat bloating. Auto doubling combat arts like swift strikes & hunter’s volley are hugely helpful, as is Vengance and battalion wrath strats. Pretty much every unit has some skill or art they can use to just delete an enemy, and the ones that don’t can go grappler or sniper for their class mastery arts.

  • @Mr96POP
    @Mr96POP 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Impregnable Wall is a great way to draw in enemy bosses with huge range so that you can have your whole team ready to gang up on them. On Chapter 4, I just used it so that I could comfortably draw in the Death Knight before nuking him with Lysithea on the next player phase.
    Kingdom Archers on Blue Lions Maddening is also valuable and fantastic since it’s the only D-ranked Retribution battalion, so having Dedue, Dimitri, and Byleth counter enemy archers in the early turns really makes killing them on player phase much easier.

      I had Felix and Lysithea in my Golden Deer run and both of them in one army just feel unfair

  • @DLAsmash
    @DLAsmash 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    - I'm 90% sure that 2-3 range gambits like Fusillade don't drop in accuracy like normal bow attacks do when you are 3 spaces away vs 2. Gambits act like spells in this regard
    - Silence is definitely underrated and is a big reason that Manuela and Marianne are two of my favorite units, but there's one caveat: using this spell on an enemy mage with a battalion won't prevent them from using their gambits (group flames etc), even if they're silenced. Found this one out the hard way
    - The "movement" combat arts, such as Swap, Shove, and (especially) Pull Back that you learn from mastering the beginner classes (monk, fighter, myrmidon, soldier) are very useful, especially in the early game but in the late game as well honestly. In your first scenario with the archer, you could have killed the archer in one round with Felix/gauntlets, then used Pull Back with Dorothea to get Felix out of the Death Knight's range. That would have saved a gambit and the archer would have been dead instead of getting healed in the enemy turn. Situations like this happen all the time in maddening, which is why I always try to master the beginner classes with most units (especially monks, fighters, and myrmidons for the +2 mag, str, and spd respectively) before moving on to the intermediate classes
    - Impenetrable Wall is IMO the best gambit in the game and it's also available early. If you're having trouble drawing enemies out like in the example in this video, Impenetrable Wall basically trivializes it by turning up to 3 units (!) into basically invincible tanks, up to 5 (!!!) times per map

  • @michaeldanielson6206
    @michaeldanielson6206 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    For the most part, maddening is about applying your resources in creative ways to give yourself a necessary advantage over enemies, and I think this video brilliantly shows that. Another thing you could have done is to switch Felix to a bow before using his gambit so that he counters the archer on enemy phase.
    Even if you had forgotten to do that, you can have other units trade with units which have already acted, so that the weapon you want them to have equipped eventually gets "traded" into their first slot while the weapon they *did* have equipped is moved to a different slot. This is a strategy I used so often in maddening to have my units be equipped with a weapon with higher Avo, or to allow them to counterattack an enemy as I described in the above example.
    Using gambits and non-attacking spells/actions is a great tactic, but honestly to learn to play maddening, all you have to do is understand the game's mechanics and use them to your advantage. For example, I never used silence and only really ever used gambits on groups of enemies, and though maddening was still difficult for me, I was able to get through it.

      @starbonkers0724 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Netfelix it’s actually worth it, because the moment you step on a certain level to get to a class you can instantly promote to that class. Not to mention if you want a certain ability from a certain class for class grinding (e.g. death blow, darting blow, hit+20, etc.) that are out of your student’s skill proficiencies without wasting motivations on your lectures you can get to multiple classes on a single class rank. Also grinding authority REALLY helps especially on people with low proficiencies on that (looking at you, Felix and Hilda). Also, knowledge and experience gems

    Personally I don't find any benefit in killing the death knight aside from the exp. Dark Mage is not that good of a class anyway. That's why on this map I just avoid him and rout the units on the left flank until I reach the commander. The reinforcements don't do much too.
    My ultimate tips would be:
    FIGHT SMART. Determine the goal. Is it rout the enemy? Or just kill the enemy commander? You don't have to kill every unit on the map.
    Also if you have the DLC weekend battles with extra rewards, do them. It's hard at first especially if the map loaded is full of speedy bandits. But it's all worth it, that way exp won't be a problem.
    Classes - Use them to control which stat upgrades on level up. If you're patient to reload each battle for good stats, better. Watch out for:
    Str - If you have high strength, it allows you to carry heavier and powerful weapons. Every 5 Str decreases 1 weight. If you have high str, you can use heavy weapons like they are training weapons.
    Speed - High Speed means high avo and as. If you can pull of a character with 90-100+ avo, then you can pull off a bait game. They won't hit you, but you'll annihilate them. Pair with Evasion Ring if you are waiting, as well as the blah blah step+ Ability you gain on S Rank Flying skill. Byleth on my maddening gd run didn't get hit a single time.
    Dex - For crits. Least important but good to have. Pair with crit ring if you are attacking.
    Skills - Can be upgraded through battles and teaching. Set the goals in advance if you already have a chosen class for your unit.
    Unique Abilities - Make sure to pay attention on each char's unique skill. Like Hilda's, where men who fight beside her gain extra attack, or Leonie's, who gains attack when fighting beside a male teammate.
    Farm Renown - Buy 99 pieces of all the seeds worth 50 in the market and offer to the altar, then use it to the saint statues until you unlock the experience plus.
    Use the Right Weapons - Use the right weapons for the right enemy units. My personal favorite is Rapier+. It's strong against armored and riding dudes. For Flyers, bows are your friend.
    That's it! Enjoy the game 😁

    Fire Emblem Three Houses Maddening NG+ tips.
    ***Not my original thoughts, tips acquired across the internet... TH-cam comments, okay?***
    Still struggling with Maddening, even on multiple New Game+ runs?
    Here’s how to make it a bearable challenge.
    Assuming New Game+...
    1. Do a Normal run first (preferably on Blue Lions to include Dedue) and teach all of your preferred male units Quick Riposte from War Master, Vantage from Mercenary, and Wrath from Warrior.
    (Death Blow from Brigand if you haven’t already.)
    Quick Riposte negates enemy doubling and allows you to double on enemy phase.
    When your health falls below half and Quick Riposte becomes inactive, that’s where Vantage and Wrath come into play.
    The heavy-hitter male units who would benefit most from these skills include m!Byleth (can transfer Quick Riposte to f!Byleth), Felix, Seteth, Sylvain, Ferdinand, Alois, and Cyril.
    If you plan to use Dedue, Caspar, and Raphael, they will need those skills, especially.
    Arguably, Dimitri doesn’t need Vantage, Wrath, and Quick Riposte because of his Battalion Wrath and Battalion Vantage combo. (If Dimitri is equipped with a Killer Lance and Chalice of Beginnings, he becomes a monster.)
    2. Stick with the best classes:
    - For OHKO value: Sniper for Hunter’s Volley, Grappler for that Three-Hit Combat Art, and War Master for criticals.
    - OHKO classes for units who have multi-hit combat arts: Bow Knight for Point Blank Volley units, Paladin for Swift Strikes units, War Cleric for Catherine’s Bombard.
    - For max magic uses: Gremory
    - For magical nukes who want to fly: Dark Flier
    - For dodge-tanks: go with Falcon Knight, Wyvern Lord, War Monk/Cleric (Brawl Avoid is a thing), and/or Dancer. Of course, be sure to learn/transfer Alert Stance+ and the weapon prowess abilities.
    3. Since speed largely doesn’t matter in Maddening with high-speed enemy units, use some characters with multi-hit combat arts:
    - Leonie and Cyril get Point Blank Volley. Make them Bow Knight for Bowfaire to max damage output.
    - Seteth, Ferdinand, and Sylvain get Swift Strikes. Great candidates for Paladin’s Lancefaire.
    - Catherine learns Bombard with A rank in gauntlets, so she’s a good candidate for War Cleric’s fist-faire.
    - Dedue and Alois both learn One-Two Punch, so they would be great Grappler or War Master units.
    4. Plant stat-boosting seeds every month! Purple seeds for strength boosters, yellow seeds for magic boosters. Primarily, it’s a good idea to focus on planting purple seeds, since your multi-hit combat units will be strength-based.
    5. Give all of your charm-boosting items to your dodge-tank(s). That way, not even Gambits will be likely to hit them.
    6. If you’re using female characters without multi-hit combat arts (ie, Hilda, Petra, f!Byleth) for an offensive-combat role, give them killer weapons and turn them into flying units.
    7. Use Bernadetta! She can be a Sniper with Encloser utility and Hunter’s Volley as reliable backup. (Encloser is helpful when facing multiple Pegasus, Swordmaster, or Assassin enemies.)
    But if you want her for Rescue utility *and* OHKO potential, try War Cleric. War Cleric’s fist-faire paired with Bernie’s personal skill and crest could do wonders.
    8. Gambits. At least half of your units should have attack-gambits to break multiple monster shields for ore. For the rest, either Stride, Impregnable Wall, or Dance of the Goddess. Whatever fits your play style.
    9. For a Maddening run, here’s a Team Suggestion for, let’s say, Blue Lions:
    - f!Byleth Falcon Knight (combat role)
    - Dimitri Great Lord with Dedue as his Guard Adjutant
    - Sylvain Paladin
    - Ingrid Falcon Knight (dodge tank role)
    - Felix War Master
    - Leonie Bow Knight
    - Bernadetta as Sniper or War Cleric
    - Lysithea or Annette Dark Flier
    - Mercedes Gremory
    - Marianne as Dancer (utility and dodge tank role)

      @@eiplays2768 Honestly Crimson Flower was my favorite route out of the 4, even though it was the shortest it was also the most unique route with its special maps and it's different perspective of events, as well as the final boss fight being my 2nd favorite (first being silver snows due to its difficulty). Also how the hec is Seteth good, his low strength makes him inferior even Ingrid, who at least has good speed.

    • @eiplays2768
      @eiplays2768 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@riverdoge Swift Strikes, it is simply put one of the best combat arts for maddening in the game as it makes you always double in a mode where basically no one doubles. because of this he has one of the most consistent damage outputs and combine that with the fact you recruit him at level 23 means he's already doing very well for himself in stats when compared to all the other units you have at this point on the maddening meaning you can dedicate more exp and as a result more levels to your students (he's higher level than Ingrid at this point making his stats better, also his speed doesn't matter that much cause you're going to be spamming swift strikes anyways). that and he comes in wyvern rider which is one of the best classes in the game. he's very good and requires little maintenance on maddening mode this is why he's very good and why he's basically a no-brainer pick for a team on maddening. going back to the Catherine pick you to pick her up cause she's your jagen and her relic is always useful to have especially on maddening mode.
      anyway enough of setteth time to explain CF route.
      on maddening the route is needlessly difficult due to the ambush spawns on several of the missions especially the last one which features pegasus knight ambush spawns. usually what you do is wait it out but you can't do that because the golems get infinitely stronger due to immaculate one roar (yes the roar buff stacks over the course of the map). combine this with the black eagle students being very lackluster when compared to the other houses and your gonna have a generally bad time. Edelgard as a unit is good and her relic is great so she gets a pass. Hubert plays the role of a tank mage and gets fucked over on maddening as a result. Caspar and Ferdinand are a joke. Bernadetta is only good due to vengeance rescue shenanigans which are never worth the setup and petra is a dodge tank in a mode where speed stat is nearly irrelevant because of the enemies always having better stats. easily the best non-lord student on maddening for cf being linhardt and Dorothea the former being useful for warp and being a healer whilst the other has 2 uses of the meteor spell which is one of the best spells in the game purely for its ability to siege foes at a distance and due damage in an area of effect style. but that's just the gameplay it gets worse.
      the story in crimson flower is so incredibly boring and the plot can be summarized in 3 (technically 4) sentences.
      Edelgard: let's go to this place and fight (explains a strategy that is incredibly vague and gives us no insight as to why its strategic at all)
      hubert: feet picks, please
      edelgard: me good rhea bad
      byleth:
      all of this combines to make cf while unique one of the worst routes in the game. and that's saying a lot because the other routes are copy-pasted with only blue lions feeling fleshed out and claude's route just stealing from silver snow.
      Seriously tho some of the characters in the final chapter don't even have unique dialogue they just say their unit select quote. that and there are other glaring issues with the plot. why invade the neutral alliance instead of attacking and destroying the kingdom first. Claude would have agreed to a peace treaty if he was surrounded. edelgards connection to those who dubstep in the dark is never explained properly. Seriously it's Twsitd fault that she went through the shit she did why take it out on rhea who has nothing to do with it. Edelgard had the opportunity to be the next arvis. one of the all-time greatest lords. but the writers BLEW IT seriously. I wish I could like edelgard. I WISH she was handled better. she deserved so much better than what the writers gave her and it's a dam shame.

      @@eiplays2768 Well now that I just read an entire essay, ima skip the story part as that's just preference. But if I'm being honest I didn't know seteth gets swift strikes. Also units are able to double in this mode as long as you focus on them. In my BL Maddening playthrough my Ashe, Byleth, and Dimitri were easily able to double most units as they were my main focuses. I completely ignored seteth as the stats are pretty weak. But I'll try him in my next maddening playthrough, as I'm doing a CF one right now

    • @lawlupthelombre2995
      @lawlupthelombre2995 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which set of reinforcements?
      If it’s the bolting/meteor mages then use a dodge tank with retribution/chalice to kill them or tank the turn they spawn in with impregnable wall and deal with them normally.
      If it’s the dark knights/war masters then just turtle and move slowly. U can stop these reinforcements by leaving a unit on the stairs that they spawn on.

    • @DelanHaar6
      @DelanHaar6 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those long-range ambush spawn mages? Yeah that reinforcement wave is actually evil. The most efficient way to deal with them is the Battalion Wrath/Battalion Vantage Dimitri build with Retribution support, but if you don't have a low health battalion then there are some other options.
      Regular Vantage/Wrath with Retribution can also work, but again, that requires a lot of prep work in previous maps to master the Merc and Warrior classes.
      If neither of those is available you, then I have two suggestions. Both still involve Retribution, since Azure Moon gets easy access to it through the D-rank Kingdom Archers battalion. There are also a few A-rank battalions that grant it.
      One is to kill the enemies at the throne room entrance, then send in one unit with Retribution active that can dodge most or all of the hits, and make sure everyone else in your army is well out of reach. Bolting is not a very accurate spell, and it is very heavy, so many sword/brawling classes have the potential to evade and then double on the counterattack. Sword/Brawling Prowess level 5, an Evasion Ring, a high-avoid Gambit like the Gautier Knights or Jeralt's Mercenaries, and other skills like Sword/Brawl Avoid +20 and Alert Stance+ can all stack for dramatic effect. Then it's just a matter of making sure your chosen dodge tank can kill the enemy warlocks in return.
      If you don't have one unit that can dodge the hits and KO in return, then consider using Retribution on two units that can each survive two hits or have a good chance of avoiding one and surviving the other. Retribution lasts a while, so you can set it up in the middle with one gambit use and then send each unit off to the sides. Pure Waters can be bought beforehand to help with this, as they give +7 res on the turn they are used. Heck, if you have some Hexlock shields, now might be the time to consider using them. Just be aware that you don't want to put your chosen units in range of the warlocks' regular spells, since those are harder to dodge and can double, unlike siege spells.
      Hope that all helps.

    I don’t really get why the death knight is so feared in chapter 4. You just need to bait him with someone with at least 14 attack speed, and don’t get crit lol. On player phase, there are so many options, from gambits to knightkneeler to vengeance, you don’t even need to be consciously preparing for him most of the time. Black eagles struggle the most because they don’t have rally speed, but it’s still not that tough to get Petra or someone to 14 speed

    • @lorddragonskin3603
      @lorddragonskin3603 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reduced EXP in Maddening. And the unit still needs to survive the normal damage.
      Of course. One can just avoid DK (and lose the Dark Seal), or, alternatively, steal the Dark Seal (speed blessed?) before finishing the chapter objective.
      This is assuming you are playing without NG+ and you don't have an Armored Knight Dedue waiting with a Silver Shield, his personal battalion, Def +2, QR, and Def Up food.

    • @zunkgrass2341
      @zunkgrass2341 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lord Dragonskin Stealing from the death knight isn’t gonna happen without rally speed. And even a fragile unit like Petra can tank 1 hit from him. The only annoying thing is having to reroll rn when he lands the ~ 30% crit chance
      Edit: Seal Speed is another option for stealing, but the likelihood of a unit being level 10 going into the battle is very unlikely unless you focus hard on a unit. All this to say, yeah, you can steal the dark seal from the death knight, but it’s way easier to just kill him lol

They enemy upgrades to silver weapon that weight less and also more accuracy after time skipped though.

      It was still a brutal battle, I would honestly call CF Chapter 14 harder than Chapter 17 if you don't understand the objective (they kind of give you two objectives at once, and I spent a while prioritizing the wrong objective).

    My nuke-loli (both berni and Lythesia) couldnt oneshot the Death Knight so I had to rely on Hilda to proc her crest so she could do enough damage so berni can oneshot.
