    14:12 Rory had to be the perfect golden child because Lorelai needed her to be. If Rory succeeds, then Lorelai leaving her entire life behind was all worth it.

      Yes! So much pressure on a child growing up, feeling the need to be perfect to make your parents' sacrifices "worth it".

    he should get all the credit for getting a job and even being good at it. there's nothing wrong with working at Walmart.

      Are you talking about Jess and when he works at Walmart in season 3? I'm not criticizing Jess, he was a good worker there, and there is nothing wrong with working at Walmart, I agree. I was, however, looking at how he was raised and how that affected him and criticizing Liz for her part in it.

    Jess gets way too much credit for Rory going back to Yale. Don't forget he tried to get Rory to runaway with him and leave Yale her freshman year. I get having compassion for Jess but can't blame most mothers for not wanting teenage Jess dating their daughter. He was rude to everyone but Rory and engaged in criminal behavior. Maybe he cleaned up his act, but he most definitely had not before he left for California.

      I agree, actually! With the part of him being a teenage punk, anyway. I don't think he was a good boyfriend to Rory at that time, and I agree that he was rude to just about everyone except her. He is one of my favorite characters on the show because of his growth, despite all the odds being against him. And understanding people's behavior does not excuse it :)

      You’re talking about an incident before he had his character development. Everyone knows Jess was unstable, selfish, and flighty in the beginning but he obviously had a change by the time he got his first book made. His past mistakes don’t negate the fact that he’s the only one that was able to get some sense back into Rory.
      Dean was nice but never truly understood her. He was just supportive (sometimes) when he wasn’t even sure what he was supporting. Logan was more intellectually on her level but he never wanted to change his position in the world. Even though he didn’t like it and rebelled against it, he never put any effort into running away from it or choosing something for himself. Jess is the only one that matched Rory’s intelligence and had some ambitions for himself. Not always, but it was there. They understand each other and he’s the only one that brought back a glimpse of the old Rory with that speech of his.

      @@ErisWriter I'm sure due to the magic of television, Jess has completely changed and is this awesome guy. But in real life, guys like Jess stay jerks. They can keep up for a day or maybe a week or two.

      @@doesitmatterwhoiam8838 you're right. It's only on TV that anyone changes between 16, 18, 20... even up to and beyond 30. In real life, everyone stays the same. Maturity, attachment style and personality never change after having more life experience. There's no such thing as growth or working on yourself. A 16yr old is as developed as it gets.

    Liz wasn't a teen mom. She was young, but they never said she was a teenager. We don't really know how old Luke and Liz are. I assumed Liz was 20 or so from the story about Jess's father ditching. She was also married to Jess's father before Jess.

      From what I remember, and from what a bit of googling showed me, is that Liz was at the most 18 when she had Jess and that she got married after finding out about the pregnancy. But 18 or 20, she was very young and very immature.

      @yourlittlesistersproductions 18 would make sense, too. I have to rewatch, because now that you say it, I think they did say that once in the show. IDK why 18&19 count as "teen pregnancy," though tbh. 18&19 y/os don't face anywhere close to the same ones minors face. My aunt had her oldest at 18 and youngest at 19. Emotionally, she was definitely too young; most are until after 25 or so, but she had the legal ability to work the same hours and same jobs as literally any other adult person. She was able to graduate high school, too. I've never heard of someone having kids at that age who couldn't. She then went to community college, where staff is chill about parents bringing their kids to class with them, and became a nurse. Easy peasy as far as parenthood and career growth is concerned.
      No where near as tough as my friends who had kids before turning 18. I don't think any of them have even a GED since that is night school, so they can't really bring the kids if they can't find childcare, and a lot of jobs require a minimum of a GED or high school diploma.
      I don't recall them saying anything about when they got married, though, only that they did (i think they only brought that up once, too).

    what are you criticizing Christopher for here? he got a stable job and made himself available to Rory

    • @yourlittlesistersproductions
      @yourlittlesistersproductions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Later in the series, yes, Christopher does get a stable job and has more contact with Rory. I actually have a deep dive video into Christopher if you want to hear a more nuanced look into him and his relationship with Rory :)
