Hello Sir, I'm confused on definition of heat load. In this example, all the energy has been added and defined as heat load. Energy for cooling is being added to energy for heating (also exothermic energy). My confusion is that heating and cooling both energy is being summed up and called as heat load.?. Kindly clarify. In utility requirement calculation, we calculate heating (steam) and cooling (cooling media) seperately.
Like for example 5 KL Methanol is being distilled

Sir. For step 1 and 3 , we'll give heat to reactor where as for step 2, we give cooling which is we are extracting heat from reactor to utility. Then why we considering all 3 as heat load. Why the equation isn't eq1-eq2+eq3. Please correct me
Dear either u are giving or extracting heat it is the load that is going to Utility.
