Wait! Mountain bikers and hikers, in the background, enjoying the great outdoors? And Steve Vai in the foreground, shredding? Where is this universe, this world, this HEAVEN??? How can it be????
How's your better half Buzz.. .wasn't it Bunny? No I won't tell you "Everything you know is wrong", but just a smidge of goodwill advise......a national park or forest in Colorado is not governed by state statutes, but federal ones.....so be careful! Steve Vai is such a treasure. He takes the simplest guitar riffs and puts his spin on them and suddenly they are no longer simple. His note expressions that he pulls from his guitar strings are not just guitar notes but they are his expressions that he thinks belong in the song.
+sheriffii I think Robben enjoy it. He is a great blues guitar legend also a really great person! For him a very good time to get some new ideas from Steve "indulgent garbage".
Vai plays much more subtle (also his tone is more smooth) than years before, when his playing and sound was much more rough. I love his combo of subtle and energetic approach, simple and complex, loud and silent. So much dynamics in his performance .During one of his concerts it happened that luckily I was very close to stage, it was intimate club concert and at one moment he have lean forward with guitar close to my face and I subtly for second touched his guitar, he smilled and I felt electric current throughout my body. Maybe this was some kind of "initiation" via energy transfer :) However, my guitar playing became better after and understanding of music is just coming to me naturally now. I believe its very good, even priceless to watch his lessons and performances if you are music student, guitarist... He is great human being, teacher and musician par excellence !
+Zoran Ramzo Kamenycky Absolutely man! The BEST music of any Genre is Spiritual and is inspired from Moment One. This is exactly why people like John McLaughlin, Steve Vai, Carlos Santana, etc. touch you on a deep level. It's because the notes comes from the heart and Soul of the artist. Take good care :) ♫♫
@Alan Roberts We are not this body, but much more, eternal spirit. That was meaning of comment. Spirit is beyond sexuality. And I am not gay btw and dont think Vai is gay oriented either just because he can be subtle. Also why man cannot be warm and kind ? Best warriors are known to be able to be incredibly subtle and kind. I appreciate kindness whether from man or woman. And I am not really friendly with bullies and rudes, I enjoyed kicked their ass in my youth. if you dont like me or my comment just ignore it. Or you enjoy causing negativity, anger and hatred ? Steve Vai is awesome but I couldn't stop looking at Robben Ford... what a nice guy to just stand there and have a listen to a fellow musician/guitarist.
This is the best I've seen of Steve....funky more relaxed Rock n' Roll atmosphere,no posing, enjoying himself & playing Cosmic Atomic Herculean Avatar powerhouse music! Thank-you for posting and Infinite Blessings to Steve Vai & his Band ....Aum
AGE? Vai was hired by Frank Zappa as co-lead guitarist 30 years ago - Genius recognizing Genius. Truly today, Steve is breath taking in where he Takes us, Sharing Rare Air, excelling the older he gets....stunning mind, flawless, his Music is Magic.
MRNYCRISPY Thanks for posting this. I attended one of the Guitar Town festivals around 10 years ago with Eric Johnson and Buddy Guy as headliners. It's an unbelievable setting for a show. I've seen Steve Vai play several times but have missed him the last few times he's been in town. This is a great performance. Thanks again.
I did want to say......I have seen some recent performances where he maybe didn't play as well as we know he's capable. He was "on" here. the jam was great at the end. also the places where Robben cracks a grin are the same places I do. lol
I love the expressions on Robben Ford's face! I bet he's thinkin' "wow in the last five second you shredded more notes that I've played all year long!"
+Jon Hobgood from 1:02:20--1:02:40. In this performance, it's almost *identical* to the original recording. I've probably seen over 150 live videos of FTLOG and this is by a long shot the closest I've ever heard him get to the studio recording. And if you watch HOW it's played, it's pretty amazing. It's a lot less picking than I would've thought...but his hammers/pulls are just so strong that they are at an even volume level with the picked notes. Very glad I found this!
+RiPE Technologies that and the 60 seconds or so leading up to it were also dead ringers for the study rendition. I used to listen to this in my twenties and wondered how on earth he was doing it. Amazing to see it live. Well, YT live at least :)
the most amezing for me, was the face of old music-technich dude on backe side. Sure, he saw lots of guitar players, but Stevie Wondered even him)))))))))))
I've just noticed that the band fucked up at the end of Building the Church. Steve waves his arm @27:53 to signal that the extended solo is finishing. @27:57 the band is supposed to stop playing at the end of the 4 bar pattern, as Steve then plays the outro where he hammers the whammy with his wrist. Here though Jeremy and Philip missed the signal and continued for another 4 bars. Steve didn't miss a beat and just turned the beginning of that outro into 4 bars of more soloing. Dave Weiner shakes his head in Jeremy and Philips direction before also continuing. After those 4 bars the band stops and Steve then plays the outro to completion. After the song Steve goes and laughs it off with Jeremy. True professionalism, I wonder if anyone in the audience even noticed. I've watched this video several times before and hadn't until now.
The only live clip i have ever seen where he was using the Legacy 3 exclusively, he wasn't using them when they were released, instead continued to use the legacy 1 until they went bust.
The people in the background hiking.....how do you walk by and keep going while Steve Vai plays "For the Love of God"?? Not even a glance toward the stage! Very strange.
Wait! Mountain bikers and hikers, in the background, enjoying the great outdoors? And Steve Vai in the foreground, shredding? Where is this universe, this world, this HEAVEN??? How can it be????
+Jon Nichols And if I'm not mistaken Robben Ford wearing another shiny blouse somewhere in between.
+Jon Nichols Don't forget the legal weed, if you're into that kind of thing...

Just kidding, I adore Robben as well...
i cant stop watching robben fords face! its just great seeing one legends reactions of another.
Specially at 15:25
I Saw too
He almost shed a tear at 16:49
This video essentially should be called “Robben Ford reacts to Steve Vai”😎
Fuck Yeah - I was just thinking the very same!!
Steve Vai even plays at a small venue / festival like this. What a hero
gua Pengagum berat Mu Vai .. Semoga Beliau ber tauhid
Steve Vai is such a treasure. He takes the simplest guitar riffs and puts his spin on them and suddenly they are no longer simple. His note expressions that he pulls from his guitar strings are not just guitar notes but they are his expressions that he thinks belong in the song.
Steve Vai is shredding so hard at 5:42 that a kid in the background wrecks his bike
LOL
xD
Jajaaa
LOL Thats awesome
That is hysterical.. Vai's playing disturbed the equinox of light the kids groove riding was on..
YEAH WITHOUT A DOUBT STEVE VAI IS ONE OF WORLDS GREARTIST GUITAR. PLAYERS!!
Robben Ford the blues legend watching Steve Vai Brilliant awesome electric MAGIC!!!!!!
+wittekjmusic i bet robben thinks this is self indulgent garbage.
+sheriffii I think Robben enjoy it. He is a great blues guitar legend also a really great person! For him a very good time to get some new ideas from Steve "indulgent garbage".
+sheriffii Virtuosos often respect each other's work.
Was about to say that :)
It's refreshing to see a bare bones warts n'all stage with no frills. The music does enough.
Hello ! Steve is a great musician ! Thanks for sharing, very well done video ! Best regards !!!

Nice Sunny Day In Colorado, No Rain.. Thanks
I won't entertain any arguments, to me Steve Vai is God.
No arguments from me.
HE IS NUMBER 1
Steve Vai is awesome but I couldn't stop looking at Robben Ford... what a nice guy to just stand there and have a listen to a fellow musician/guitarist.
Just when I think I've heard the best version of `` Tender surrender``, I get even better version. This is pure perfection ...
Great Guitarist, Great Music and Great Location 🌀
This is the best I've seen of Steve....funky more relaxed Rock n' Roll atmosphere,no posing, enjoying himself & playing Cosmic Atomic Herculean Avatar powerhouse music! Thank-you for posting and Infinite Blessings to Steve Vai & his Band ....Aum
DAng! Evo's neck pocket crack looks as wide as the Grand Canyon! Steve Vai always moves my heart musically.
That little Stevie Vai really did grow up to be a rock n roll star

What place, what moment!!!STEVE VAI outdoors .We love your music!
i cant believe tender surrender that was too good to be called expression, it was something more. it had polar extremes of all realms.

I love the expressions on Robben Ford's face! I bet he's thinkin' "wow in the last five second you shredded more notes that I've played all year long!"
steve vai, increible
How could you be riding a bike and see Steve over there playing and not go check it out?
no guitarist's hands are this naturally magnetic to the guitar than Steve.
Ahhhhhh ~ Steve ,,,,
Wow. In FTLOG, he plays the "flurry" part the best I've ever heard him do it live. Amazing.
+RiPE Technologies what part is the flurry?
+Jon Hobgood from 1:02:20--1:02:40. In this performance, it's almost *identical* to the original recording. Highly recommend checking out Steve Vai For The Love of God G3 1996. Very epic version aswell
Man, If I could only have 1/2 of Steve's stage presence.
Robben Ford's brief lines on the Little Wing jam are so fucking tasty and soulful. The dudes face in the back says it all.
Esse é o Mestre da Guitarra!
Hi, I'm Robben Ford, and this is my shiny jacket. Don't mind me back here watching the show.
the most amezing for me, was the face of old music-technich dude on backe side. Sure, he saw lots of guitar players, but Stevie Wondered even him)))))))))))
exquisite!!! 100%
top quality songs /tunes ;) no fuss bair bones excellence .like to see them dooooo this show in U.K.
guitar-tech-legend Thomas Nordegg! Ein Servus aus Wien!

I swear this guy is not from this planet!
The only live clip i have ever seen where he was using the Legacy 3 exclusively, he wasn't using them when they were released, instead continued to use the legacy 1 until they went bust.
for some reason steve vai with short hair and glasses reminds me of stevie t
Jeremy wrongly kept the beat at the ending of Building the Church at 27:50 (if im not mistaken lol). Amazing performance!!!
It’s so funny to watch at Thomas’s face and his reactions :)
Robben Ford in the background at 5:36 is hysterical. Look on his face says, "Wow, people still like this shit?"
The Audience is listening and a tongue slide. Wish I was there.
Grande steve vai
Why wasn't I there? I really fucked up...
+higler420 Same here.
Wowww...
I like it !
Great concert and beautiful scenery location!
Too bad most of the audience were clueless about what they were experiencing!
cool that Jeremy is playing on a vintage Tama Artstar drum kit
The best part of the show it's Robben Ford face, Amazing Steve \m/
Hi Steve vai
I think Steve Vai is best when tender surrender is played bc it forces him to get real dynamic
The people in the background hiking.....how do you walk by and keep going while Steve Vai plays "For the Love of God"?? Not even a glance toward the stage! Very strange.
Ignorants...
The best part is when asked whats the difference between Complete and finish?
16:49 ford loves it!
