    Finally a real technician explaining how to make a repair the correct way. I know, I'm a Toyota Technician.

    I have this leak on my FJ… I keep putting off this fix as the slow leak has provided protection to certain parts of the underbody 😂

      Same! Perhaps the better idea would be to create a system of very very slow oil leaks above the entire frame...... 3rd and 4th Gen 4Runner Frame Rust Prevention Oil Cooling System for Extreme Overlanders (on a 3rd/4th gen budget) 🤑. Million dollar idea right there! 🤣

    This is the rear wheel drive oil pan correct?. I’ll hearing you have to drip the differential for the 4x4 version?!

    Great video.
    I'm sure my Tacoma with the 4.0L is the same way.
    Almost up for an oil change and may go ahead with dropping the pan to clean it.

    Hi Brian,
    Thank you for the video. I have a 2008 FJ, 4.0, with the same leak and was wondering/hoping that the procedure was the same or are there other obstacles to remove beside the splash pans. Is there a windage tray or anything like that to watch out for or does the pan just basically drop down?
    Thank you

    Do your recommend use silicon or gasket for the oil pan?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@nummi so the factory uses silicone. so I would recommend using that. Trust me they don’t wanna warranty it so they try to do the best option for them.

    My Oil pan threads are going out, do I have to replace the entire pan? or just the oil plug?

    • @oscartristan7173
      @oscartristan7173 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They sell some universal plugs that require no threading. I had the same problem on a different vehicle and i fixed it with a trip to O'Reilly's.

      @@RSU962 i am no mechanic but i can tell you one thing , I've been trying to do my own repairs lately if possible. My uncle just took his 4runner to a mechanic shop for a leak that looks exactly the same as this one and he was told it was leaking from the timing cover so they advised him to go ahead and replace the timing chain since it all had to be disassembled anyways. Also to replace the power steering pump and idk what. All for a total of $5,800 dls.
      Wtf!!

      @@oscartristan7173 Dang. That’s a huge bill. I have started doing small things on my 4runner too. It is very hard to trust mechanics now a days. I have incidents like this twice or thrice with mechanics now.

    Why is it so hard to find torque specs for this oil pan!? Not here either....

    • @robertthorne7312
      @robertthorne7312 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      According to my Haynes manual, the bolts get 80 INCH-lbs of torque and the nuts get 84 INCH-lbs of torque. Note: INCH-lbs, NOT ft-lbs. Hope this helps!

    • @бля-т2т
