1:35 I miss that universal fanfare intro so much. That was my childhood whenever I would watch universal movies, fun fact, film composer, James Honer, who did the soundtrack to the land before time wrote that fanfare
cus the word universal has multiple meanings and its usage is older than what we currently use it for (universe used to mean simply the solar system and even then the word universal is probably older than our knowledge of deep space) and universal just meant all encompassing, or multifunctional, so a studio that has big big variety of genres of films, and their park doubles as a film lot for filmmakers, therefore universal usage. Film can only be found on planet Earth. "In 1914, German American immigrant Carl Laemmle bought the Taylor Ranch in the San Fernando Valley and founded Universal City as a gigantic studio with a zoo, its own police and mayor and Native Americans living on the premises." it was also a farm where produce was sold and a zoo. really a Universal city. Also it clearly didnt always start with Earth. the 1939 logo is simply a reflective glass globe, oh look at that globe can also mean a 3d sculpture depicting planet Earth. so its possibly just the studio being artistic about word choices. The other reasoning could be Universal's original or earlier owners started the trend of calling big actors Movie Stars, the univedse is filled to the brim with stars. But MOVIE Stars can only be found on Earth. One final thing, how can one possibly depict the Entire Universe in ine singular drawing or very short animation????? The universal logo goes further back to the like 1910s and isnt depicting Earth until like 1920 something. Logos need appeal and need to quickily catch the costumers eye and depicting an entire universe would be hard to pull off, even now, we sfill barely know what the Universe as a whole looks like just clusters. Itd be hard to depict. and once again movies can only be found on Earth.
ANOTHER final thing, looking at the history the name was patened after the owners bought multiple different film studios, so universal cpuld be based in that. i might got some history wrong but its clear the word Universal here is being used as "all emcompassing" and not entirely a space related. The space theme came after the name was created and evsn then it only showed Earth, not space. Earth being depicted IN space wasn't until '63, which lines up with everyone's fascination with space at the time, it was during the Space Age and Space Race. In older films, Universal's depiction of Earth is simply in the sky surrounded by clouds.
Love these so much. The trumpet bit here is ace 1:29, though its not a complete bit. The best is clearly 2:59 though the Minions one is headache material.
Noticed its always a globe, and the text always flies in over Europe, orbiting around earth ,or its the 2 revolving rings when the text is static? Even more consistent overall than most of the other companies,as it didnt have an ultra stylised period, unlike MGM,WB,Paramount,UA, etc😊
On 1990 - 1991 Universal pictures logo are compilation from 1921 to 1980 version logo of universal pictures because that logo event anniversary 75 year of universal pictures
Oh man, seeing how the 9th Universal Pictures opening logo (aka the Zooming Globe logo) was reused in some of their movies that were released in the 2000s decade and even in recent times, if they reused that opening logo, they should bring back and reuse the majestic orchestral fanfare composed by the late James Horner from the 10th opening logo (from 1990-1997). Pass on this message to Universal Pictures!
A lot of logos are missing, 1939 isn't the first, there have been many before. Then there's the 75th anniversary logo (Back to The Future III), which doesn't show the whole thing, missing the end, which is also my favorite. 😭 Instead of showing the same logo several times on several films, it would have been better to show all the logos since 1912.
@@TheMovieSurgeons You only need one film for each logo, it's not the films that are important but the logos ;) ... And why not put the whole 75th anniversary logo (Back To The Future III)?
