HIP-103 Passed - So Now What?

- So HIP-103 passed and we're looking at 3 new oracles to determine how rewards are weighted. I'd wait to buying anything until the dust settles. Until they're implemented on the planner for the helium network, you can't trust what type of rewards you'll get.

It's not safe to deploy ANY helium hardware- You're only ever 1 hip away from having your rewards gone and your hardware turned to a useless box.

to answer your question, you can have more than 2 436H's deployed on a gateway, its just about the hexes covered. for example, you have a directional antenna, which means just that direction is covered. if you want to farm the hexes, or "allow for more connections when CBRS is turned back on", then you would place 2 in that direction. you can literally just turn the 3rd antenna a different direction if your location is good in multiple directions. Even if you put up an omni antenna on top of another omni antenna, a 3rd 436H with a directional can still go further in that direction - it'll get .25x on the triple covered hexes and 1.00x on the uncovered hexes further away in that direction.

you can run more than 3 by using a poe switch between gateway and cells.

Yes, same gateway. You can run an ethernet cable from one of the three enb ports on the gateway into the poe switch's port for internet, then from the switch to say 3 nova430h's and 2 indoors. For the other two enb ports, those can be used for 2 436h's. @@DoItJustinKace

I don’t Think I’ll jump in another helium project in a while, I tried getting in on the hype when helium hotspots first came out. Miner was back ordered, for over 7 months and I just said cancel it, bought one on eBay for 4x retail. By the time I set everything up rewards were down so much. Lots of people getting screwed with rewards. Timing is always key

Check the heliumgeek app. That's where I'm at because my friend's internet is slow. Sucks.

This will be interesting. My outdoor miner (430h) will be covering fields next to a major highway. Horrible land coverage, but great footfall coverage.

@@DoItJustinKace , got installed about an hour ago. From about 430pm to 630 pm every weekday, I am staring at bumper to bumper traffic. But, it's a rural area. Lots of farmland. But, I feel like we are shirking those that make our food. Doesn't the dude on the tractor deserve good coverage too? I don't think farm and field coverage should have diminished rewards. Although I suppose the people that make our food are used to being underappreciated. Where would we be without farmland? Most people like to be able to eat.

Excellent Summary. IMO residential area deployment are in risk of losing rewards because footfall is what determines if you’re gonna get 1X or not.
Yep. And no one is walking near my house. Park is getting footfalls tho.
Are we still waiting on the hip that will separate the indoor hot spots and the outdoor hot spots I have two of each and don't know if I should unplug one indoor so that I get rewards on both outdoor once they are functioning or will it always give the higher rewards to the better devices @@DoItJustinKace
Hello Justin , Thank you for your informative videos ! I have recently deployed an outdoor wifi unit and have a question . To see if I could increase covered hexes i aimed the unit in a different direction and updated the direction in setup but after a day or so have not seen any change in the hex map ??? Should the map in the Helium Geek app have reflected the direction change ?? Thank in advance for your reply , Harry .
It could take a couple days before you see something updated on the planner map. You should compare it with the hotspotty map or some of the other mapping options out there. They get updated faster than that planner map.
Does the planner start showing you how much you can earn with hip 103 implemented?

Thank you so much for your videos, i live 1.3 miles from Animal Kingdom park in orlando, there is a swamp between us, i've put mine location using 430H miner on the planner but it says i can do only 900 mobiles per day, it's not covering inside the park, what i belive it's gonna make a huge rewards. Is there anything I can do to make mine signal get coverage there ? Your antenna is covering how many miles ?
There’s no way you’re going to cover miles. CBRS doesn’t reach that far. You could try that 18 DBI directional antenna on a 436H. Put that in the planner and see what it tells you.

So far most 436 r getting lions share of rewards even though they are in residential areas I contacted Baicell engineers & they informed me that Baicell ideal locations are shopping centers. I set mine up in shopping centers with surrounding shopping centers only to discover that rewards are solely given to 436 Baicells regardless of best location set up. Cheers to all
Location still matters. Some are better than others. Long term malls make sense for data.

How many outdoor wifi hotspots can be in one cell before the gains go down? Im reading 3 and im reading 2 also..

I was thinking of buying a helium outdoor unit, would it even be a good idea? I have a community college nearby and i live on the 3rd floor of my apartment. I used the planner to map out my area and it said I could roi in 2/3 months. Would that be accurate after the recent hip?

Depends how urban. Suburban may get affected.

It all depends on the footfall hex map, essentially only the combination that starts with A will get the 1X. Anything lower than 1X is anyone’s guess as far as rewards goes (it may go up or down compared to today)

Yea make me wonder if nova hog and other companies halt sell for the 436h antenna even do helium deploy has them in stock they didn't want to sell it to customers because they had strong beliefs hip 103 will pass so it seems the company selling the equipment have insider trading information
I think insider trading really relates to stocks, but yeah, they know what they want to do and how to make it happen regardless of how it effects us.

Well at least yours are approved and earning some tokens. I ordered the large 430 bundle back on January 18th. And helium deploy still refuses to send my gateway. They just keep making excuses. They finally refunded my extra shipping cost. I paid for express shipping.

I'm going to list my new freedomfi gateway soon on eBay. Paid like $900 cant return, still sealed. Probably sell for $500, Unfortully with HIP 103 my area hasn't even updated.
Call your credit card company and dispute it. That's crazy. I bought my gateway on Ebay so didn't have an issue.
I bought the 436H bundle from the helium deploy website, and they didn’t ship the kit, so I messaged them asking for a refund. They said they would check with the finance department and then ghosted me. I filed a claim with American Express, and they returned my money about a day later.
sadly I made the decision to return everything. My area is not updated so with HIP 103 I probably make nothing. I wonder how long until they update the maps.

The other day I put my phone in the room under my outdoor wifi and let twitch run for a while and I was ranked 31st in data transfer. lol

I had my two phones watching 16k TH-cam videos. I was ranked 4th for data. I used my 25 GB limit and then couldn't get mapping rewards for a week.

Man im like 30k deep in this helium gig. Made some good coin but have a bunch of IOT hardware im not even motivated to deploy. I have a CBRS set up that made good coin. I think im just gonna let it all ride again. Looks like a rinse and repeat model. I have high hopes but dam. Its one worse change after bad ones. Come on helium. Lets get it together!

This is what I brought up about people not using the data. If they don’t switch SIM cards it’s pointless and we won’t get rewarded for data. Helium doesn’t promote their cell service. Bad marketing

0nce every 2 years and twice a year by doing updates like every 6 months they have new plans new updates . For me i stopped investing with them and what ever i have I'll keep it running.
I still have my old IOT miners running.
I have 90 of them took me a while for ROI, but now all they do is pennies

One HIP passed giving more rewards to rural vs Urban (they changed transmit scales in dense areas), my overall rewards dropped about 20% as im mainly urban and my two rurals increased a decent % but not enough to offset.
And one other HIP where they made bidirectional antennas mandatory and banned gamers more frequently also passed.
Edit: but i guess why care about IOT when your making $400 in MOBILE per day lol
