DUNE not hesitate to learn more about the game here - gsght.com/c/o0sm95 ! I've been very excited for this since it was first announced, and as it enters into early access, it's already showing a great degree of complexity, and some unique ideas. Let me know your thoughts down below, and if you have any questions, ask away, and I'll answer all I can!
Looks to be heavily inspired by the later stages of the ORIGINAL Dune game, the precursor to Dune2, which kicked off the entire RTS genre (command and conquer was based on it, and developed by the same people - even used same assets). In the original Dune game you played as Paul Atreides in a Dialogue based RPG, then as the game progressed it moved on to a Proto 4X or Proto RTS style of game. There was nothing really like it at the time and I think its fair to say that it was one of those ancient games that helped to define genres. Does it have a 'RPG' element as well like the original(or plans to)? Any plans for an RTS Dune 2 remake? How faithful to the books is it? Also any plans for a lets play series Party?
Honestly I was super hyped as well and already bought it, it is really more complex than I thought it would be and it is fun but I am worry of how the multiplayer will be. Being said that to play alone it is really nice and each faction really feels unique.
This looks like as if someone made a ground version of Stellaris but actually put effort in the audiovisual execution, and outsourced all the UI design to Amplitude Studios's Endless Space 2 team who are unparallelled in my opinion in creating a clean yet alive, extremely informative regarding complex contextual information yet simple looking interface designs, and then all of it was drenched in Command and Conquer: DUNE. Magnificent. If only I'd have time to play it, but I'm glad I can finish a single Total War campaign in 2-3 months... why can't Relic make a Dawn of War like this?
That's such a beautiful way to put it haha. The good news I can share is that games of Dune: Spice Wars last a handful of hours *at most* in the current early access state of the game. I don't know if the plan is to change that, but right now it's more about quick games rather than extremely long drawn-out playthroughs.
There is no other way to put it, except that it overcomes both Stellaris and ES2 in terms of tactics. I aimed for a domination win and assaulting the faction main base is no easy feat, even with an army of 6 elite units (the other army of 5 units i used for rapid response to raids, attacks and rebellions on other fronts). This means that you have to use politics and missions/operations to get the job done. Taking down the smuggler’s base required the Landsraad’s Architectural Renovation resolution to disable the base’s defenses, instigated a rebellion in their village accross the map, 3 supply drops, and 3 free Landsraad guards to soak up damage. The stars practically aligned for that assault.
Can get it for $25 on GMG redeemed via Steam still. *Northgard* was criminally underrated but the source material for a Dune themed game with the same gameplay mechanics but more 4X in depth features makes this strictly better. Glad Shiro Games made this looking forward to future content/factions as well for it. *Wartales* is also pretty good game by them FYI.
Just being Dune and more 4X oriented doesn't make it "strictly better". That's completely nonsense. Right now its "strictly worse" because it's in early access and has very little game play. Games are long, slow, and boring after the first 20 minutes. Also if you prefer RTS over 4X then you would prefer Northgard, it's subjective.
@@test-ml9wr I don't mean to diss Northgard (as you can see my logo being a Valknut that I clearly like norse and viking themed stuff) but I think the media franchise of DUNE and the over-used norse tropes in video game industry right now makes this game more appealing and interesting. They also changed the scope of Northgard adding in way more 4X features adding to the RTS stuff. This DUNE game is going to be something special when it's all said and done IMO. Also I hate RTS and enjoy turn based strategy generally so I could've done without real time strategy elements of this but I still play grand strategy titles like CK3 even though they are not turn based.
This was amazingly helpful. I wish I had known all this before I started my first game. But I was looking to learn how to improve relations with the Sietch, other than just trading water. Because I was trading with one and it dropped from 86 down to -20, even though I kept trading with it. And so, every so often I get attacked by a group of them. I was trying to get the attacks to stop and get the buff from being 100% relations.
Im sure that somehow, you attacked one of their raids that was not specifically aimed at your villages. Sometimes the Sietch spawns raids that target villages outside your borders but their path crossed one of your villages. You might have mistakenly attacked them, causing the relations drop. Best way to know if a raid is targeting your village is: 1: raid notification; 2: village under siege notification and 3: your militia actually leaving to defend the village. For increase relations with Sietches, there is an espionage operation/mission that stops a raiding party AND increase relations with a Sietch. Usually when you encounter a Sietch, your relations are at around -30ish but if you play as Fremen then it is always going to start at 0. My only complaint is that all of the best Sietches for my faction always spawn on the otherside of the map.
I'm getting strong Northgard vibes - the previous RTS from this studio - which is a good thing :) Swapping mythical Scandinavia for Sci-Fi Dune is certainly a 180 in terms of setting ;)
Great explanation of the dynamics of the game. I hope you make more videos regarding the specific factions. It's a dense game that needs to be broken down.
I've bought this game and it looks awesome but the learning curve seems too steep. Please make more videos going into depth explaining the nuances and paths to victory of each faction.
It reminds me of the board game in a lot of ways. You could be in 1st palce, and then the enemy takes advantage of a situation at just the right moment, and now you're in the middle again. Keeps you on your toes.

Influence, landsraad, intel authority - nah, lets cover something that is obvious after 20 min of gameplay in our "tips" video. It's like reading a tutorial made by Microsoft. Also reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Homer went tutoring - where they had an orange peeling class. And if it seems as I am mad over you putting "all that work" - well, cause I am. You wasted my time by calling "this" a tutorial. And no, it is not ok to farm views by doing something really useless and putting a bating title to your video.
here is a tip for you, how to become a successful programmer. You should start by turning on your PC. And if you don't have one, then you should by one. Those my two useful tips on becoming a programmer. I should make a 20 min video about it.
This game looks almost exactly like Crusader Kings 3, thought it was a mod first
Really? I'd think the ability to control units in battle and the lack of in depth character stats would give it away.
@@mattmorehouse9685 Apparently it started as a mod for CK3?
@@kripposoft I haven't heard of any Dune CK mods. I'd hazard most people would think of Dune 2 from the ninties. One of the first rts games and, from what I've heard, it was pretty popular.
@@mattmorehouse9685 I remember. I played the shit out of it. It was called like "emperor: Lord of Dune" or something, It released in 2001 when I was 11. favorite game of the RTS genre ever. Didn't even know it was based on a book series until I was like 18
@@mattmorehouse9685 Sorry, it was called "Emperor: Battle for Dune" apparently. Great game back then!
I did purchase it. Kinda waste of money tbh. Not alot of game there. With VERRY little units. And there is little replayabilty. And as a bit of personal opinion, i found the landraat mechanic tedious.
Sorry man, the video is wayyyyyy too long. 26 minutes??
This is more like an arcade game. Not anything really too in depth. If your a fan of the Dune, then that's really all there is to this game.
