Astarion may not be the nicest guy, but sending him back to his master is just cruel. Especially since we know his master has tormented and abused him for 200 years. Like damn. No wonder the guy is a little messed up in the head.
The moment the guy looks into Astarion's eyes and says "I'm hunting for a Vampire Spawn named Astarion" without recognizing him as such would make me automatically cooperate with Astarion by virtue of siding with the one who is less of an idiot. Clearly he didn't seem to know who he was hunting at all. And I can't help that.
To be fair if I was looking fo a vampire I wouldn’t expect to see him in the middle of the day. He’s still stupid though Astarion makes no attempts to hide the fact he’s a vampire
It's not like he would have ever seen a photo and it's the middle of the day. It would be weird if he assumed that was Astarion (rather than someone else who just looks a bit like the description and is a dick). Even if he kind of suspected he shouldn't be sure enough to publicly call him out when he has no proof and absolutely no reason to think he wouldn't have the same sunlight weakness as every other vampire. And everyone just seems to not notice the prominent fangs (this happens a lot in stories with vampires).
Co-operating with Astarion because he's less of an idiot is saying something, the guy has 8 INT. In all seriousness, hunting a vampire spawn and only knowings its name is pointless - all it has to do is go by a different name and you're screwed. Gandrel's terrible at his job.
@@ObsidianKnight90 Pretty much every hunter is going to be going off just a name, description and last known location. What else would they have? How are you expecting a hunter to operate in this setting? It's not pointless either, if they track and find someone matching that description who is a vampire (vampires leave victim's and have a number of tells), you can be fairly confident you have the right person. However they wouldn't know for sure on sight without investigating and Astarion cheats by not having the most obvious well known weakness.
