It's been three weeks since my mom passed away and I've been thinking about her every day. At night I go through old photos and videos. Recalling my homage to her two weeks ago I referenced Mama Told Me (Not to Come) by Three Dog Night, and how much that song reflected on my relationship with my mom. So I did a little research (which can be a dangerous thing) and discovered it was written by Randy Newman in 1966, first recorded by Eric Burdon and the Animals in 1967, then by Newman in 1970, then finally, also in 1970, the popular version we all know of by Three Dog Night. Even more interesting I found that in 2000 it was recorded by the Stereophonics (whom I had never heard of) with none other than one of the coolest people to ever walk the planet, Tom Jones. Probably every woman my mom's age had a thing for Tom Jones. I watched this over and over. I could imagine my mom at this "party" in 2000, when she would be the age I am now (61). I could also see her 61 years ago at this same party as a 20 year old. So, enjoy and raise a glass to Big Jude!

That's very interesting there were previous versions to the one most people are familiar with. Randy Newman must have written more songs than just about anyone. He's so talented.
And I'd never heard of the Stereophonics but if that's their lead singer alongside Tom Jones, he has an incredible voice too! Tom Jones is such a gifted and beautiful man.

Love that I stumbled across this comment! My mom died April 10th of this year and she’s the girl in the orange fit in this video. They couldn’t keep the camera off of her 😂 she was such a big ball of energy. Total icon 🤍 this song came on the radio randomly when my sister and I were reunited to spread her ashes this past weekend and I had to search for this video on TH-cam. Glad someone uploaded it. In the early 2000’s my mom had this video on VHS and we would always watch it and dance to it 😂 love this video so much
