I found this fact out when I stumbled upon a site called "Issendai", which analyzed and critiqued "estranged grandparents' rights" forums for being infested with abusers whose kids actually had very legitimate reasons to estrange themselves from, basically by the grandparents' own admission.

Its pretty horrific because many abuse victims end up being indoctrinated into believing that what they're suffering is not abuse. Abusers are smart enough to know that to be successful abusers, they must first alter the very sense of reality possessed by their victims. The major difference is that DO5 is quite literally abusing his son, whereas Joji and Ian can attack themselves and each other (or eat a vomit cake) because they want to entertain their audiences. They are willing to hurt themselves because they have a very niche audience to satisfy, while Cody quite literally never was asked to be attacked by his parents and siblings. My parents were investigated multiple times and nothing ever came of it. It wasn’t the worst experience in the world but there was abuse going on longer than it should have. as a person who was physically and emotionally abused as a child, i've been keeping up on this story, i've been crying watching the videos of what these parents do to these poor kids. what happened to me has affected me so much, it hurts to see more children having to go through what i went through. the parents make it seem normal, like what they're doing is okay, and that's exactly what happened to me, it's just horrible.

I too was physically and emotionally abused I was affected pretty badly and suffer from chronic depression, dysthymic disorder and anxiety. Watching these children being tortured has made me cry. It isn’t easy to watch these assholes who treat their children like shit.

The fans were the weirdest part of the whole thing for me, if you look on youtube there are tons of these weird kids channels that revolve around pranking and putting distress on kids and the comments are full of people talking about how they like to see "spoiled brats get owned" There is clearly an audience on youtube who enjoy seeing children in distress or kids who like to see other kids suffer
it's one thing to play a mean prank on a child (the age a consideration), it's another to approve the video and then upload. It's something outright entirely to make that the general content of your channel, and to have that audience base and then supply content to *that sort* of people. five shades of dad may not have been deep web worthy, but I'm sure those kind of people mingled in that demography on his channel - and are probably still following. I really love cringey/meme lord/ 'cancer' style content but many content creators like that in my experience are also just mean people. So I've generally avoided that community. But seeing your content you have a bit of that meme-y stuff but you also tackle shitty people and dangerous/damaging trends. So I feel comfortable indulging in the humor of it without the fear of suddenly getting a facefull of really cruel humor at my expense. basically, just that theres a difference between crude/gross/edgy humor and just being a genuinely bad or hurtful person.

The kind of content DaddyOFive was producing isn't "dark humor," or really "comedy" in any way. If a TH-camr tosses a baby doll around or throws punches at a friend playing a kid character, the joke is that child abuse is bad. The one abusing their kid is the bad guy, not painted (and seen by the audience) as some sort of "model dad." The other big difference is that a TH-camr who makes a one-off joke about child abuse isn't actually subjecting any children to any abuse. When the cameras turn off, most shocking or "edgy" entertainers are completely normal people. With DO5, there's clearly something going on behind the scenes. The abuse is not an act.
Cried at 13:00 minutes as memories of myself in the reflection of my bathroom mirror hiding from my father when I was a kid came flooding back. The Dad makes me fucking sick, it’s absolutely appalling to me that he could sit back and let his kids treat each other the way he did and then to go and treat them even worse. It’s unfortunate that he had to learn his lesson by having his kids taken away. The thought that he’ll eventually have them back terrifies me though.

Crazy how they only got 5 years of supervised probation and was only charged with Child Negligence. The court system failed the kids in this situation. Yes they lost custody for 2 of the kids but probation is not enough. Abusing children is another type of evil 99% of people despise

The oldest sibling and dad teamed up to pour various liquids on him while he was showering, and one of those liquids was hot sauce. The hot sauce made its way into Alex's privates, and the pain was so bad that you can hear him both screaming for his dad's help and vomiting in the shower from the pain. These people are fucking vile.

I found very interesting your arguments about why people like things like Filthy Frank, MDE, iDubbbz and MaxMoeFoe but not DaddyOFive. I think it has to do more with the fact that everything in those channels isn't harming a any bystanders, or if they are, it's all set-up and fake, and most importantly, not hurting fragile living things, like children. DaddyOFive is the anti-version of Family Vlog Channels, but it's so realistic, mean-spirited and cruel that it turns it to be one of the worst channels in TH-cam history. If all in the DO5 channel was fake and setup, we should see some kind of Behind The Scenes where the kids are having fun doing this stuff or at least they're not suffering, but to the eyes of everyone, it's all real. All of the DaddyOFive videos aren't skits where everyone's having fun, they're a clear showing of child cruelty that tries to be comedic but it fails terribly and turns into child abuse. (And keep in mind you can do this type of stuff funny, but you must be extremely smart by doing it, which I'm sure that Mike and Heather don't even know how to turn this into an unfunny joke, it's just too cruel, disturbing and unsettling)

DO5 is back under a new channel called FamilyoFive and they are back to their old ways except this time they are going after Ryan and Alex. Alex appears to be the new Cody. They are doing "pranks" on him the most. This doesn't surprise me as it is known that in an abusive family with multiple children, one or two is usually targeted. If that child or children are removed the abusive parent(s) will usually focus on another child and the pattern repeats themselves.

The dad and Jake were taking the condiments out of the refrigerator and pouring them on Alex while he was in the shower. They poured ketchup, mustard, syrup, and hot sauce. And after they poured the hot sauce, he started screaming to be taken to the hospital because the hot sauce got into his junk. And naturally the dad and jake were laughing and asking Alex what he did.
So very sad. My brother and I were abused as kids and into our teens. When he finally ran away all the hate and abuse was turned on me. Seeing these kids go through that makes my heart break. I'm grown and still can feel the effects from my childhood. No kid should be treated like this. If they are that mean and abusive to their kids, why did they have kids (or so many) kids in the first place?

I think I figured out why so many survivors of child abuse are supporting them. See, abusive adults often try to normalize their abuse to their victims. They tell them that everything that they do is standard practice, and that anyone who doesn't do the disgusting things they do is wrong. These survivors never learned the horrible things they suffered through were wrong. Also, many of them probably came from low income households, and thus equate having nice things to being in a good household situation, a common fallacy.
These monsters still have their remaining 3 children, and they are still making videos! Did that probation do nothing?! They released a new video on the 4th on this month.
The three children who are still with DO5 are children of both of the parents who run the TH-cam channel. Cody and Emma who are the youngest are the fathers children and are the ones who where getting nearly all the abuse. The older three helped their parents and where being mean to Cody and Emma and one slammed cody on to the floor. The older kids are just as bad as their parents since they like to watch Cody and Emma suffer too and contributed to the abuse. Emma and Cody where the only ones in actual danger and where sent back to their mother. Cody and Emma's mother had anxiety and struggled a bit with raising cody and Emma on her own since they both had disabilities so after seven years she asked DO5 for help. The judge decided that because Cody and Emma's mother had anxiety DO5 could have custody of both children, Heather (DO5's wife) also wrote a false statement claiming Cody and Emma's mother was abusive towards the kids. Hopefully that made since and sorry that this is late

My guess is catch-22 and some sort of selfreasuring. 1. Catch-22 maybe better know nas the viicouius cicle. People who were abused tend to have psychopathic and sociopathic traits (not saying they are taht but they often share traits found in these mental illnesses). This leads to them enjoing violance if done to others, most likely because they can defelct some of their hurt onto someone else. And people who have been exposed to abuse as a child tend to think of it as normal - I know I have for a long time until I met my girlfriend whos parents showed me a completly different aporach to parenting and her sister having a child on their own showed me how much more "fun" it is for everyone if you love eachother without ne need of physical punishment (sad to say I was 17 at that time and it took my fucking aged to realise that beein slapped and hit by a belt was "not normal". And if one sees it as normal people used it in their everyday life. That is one of the reasons why those people have loyal fans. If these fans admit that if what they see is abuse they might to rethink their understandment of family and love and having that view turned upside down - trust me is a real struggle. 2. Selfreasuring. now that is more of a lesser evil. People are wired weirdly that in order to feel good they need to compare themself with others and also have someone to look down to. Both instances give their life meaning. Religious people do it in form of wrong and right religions and sinners and saints. Ideologicly blidned people do it by saing following a different livestyle is wrong. Hell even I do it in "looking down" on social sience from my high pedestal of beeing an engineer (although most of the time out of fun not real spite) But if you belong to a lower class maybe even the lowest class (not talking that classes are good but they exsist in some form or another and out of lack of another word I wil lstick to class to classify a differatiating tool between income and education) you need someone to lookk down to inroder not to feel irrelevant (which is undertandable in same way). Here come reality Tv-shows. Most of the aired shows (At least in my country) are shows which depict people in desperation lack of money, lack of education and in general hatred towards each other. Classical scences are - Wife broke up with husband and her children are blaming her and going on a rampage and beeing cought by the police. Or people having so much debt that they are forced out of their home and live in a shelter. Theses shows give people who have nobody to look down to someone to lookdown to and feel better about themself. "See they are so much worse of ahaha our life is not as bad." Now as for my understanding these are reasons why those people creating such content have very loyal fans as debunking their view would mean that they have to rethink a lot in their life which is utterly painful. People like that "spread God's word" to (in the very least) subconsciously make up for the shit they've pulled. Their "counter culture" humor is satirical, and is definitely mocking and not meant to be nice, but they never actually do any damage to a specific person. Mike Martin screams at his own children to make them cry for humor and profit. I actually didn't really care for the tangent in this video, because the 2 types of "counter culture" seem so incomparable because it's not "apple and oranges", it's "apples and aborted fetuses". I loved the video, it just seemed to kind of lose the point in the middle.

as a person who was physically and emotionally abused as a child, i've been keeping up on this story, i've been crying watching the videos of what these parents do to these poor kids. what happened to me has affected me so much, it hurts to see more children having to go through what i went through. the parents make it seem normal, like what they're doing is okay, and that's exactly what happened to me, it's just horrible.

I too was physically and emotionally abused I was affected pretty badly and suffer from chronic depression, dysthymic disorder and anxiety. Watching these children being tortured has made me cry. I really love cringey/meme lord/ 'cancer' style content but many content creators like that in my experience are also just mean people. So I've generally avoided that community. But seeing your content you have a bit of that meme-y stuff but you also tackle shitty people and dangerous/damaging trends. So I feel comfortable indulging in the humor of it without the fear of suddenly getting a facefull of really cruel humor at my expense.

The kind of content DaddyOFive was producing isn't "dark humor," or really "comedy" in any way. If a TH-camr tosses a baby doll around or throws punches at a friend playing a kid character, the joke is that child abuse is bad. The one abusing their kid is the bad guy, not painted (and seen by the audience) as some sort of "model dad." The other big difference is that a TH-camr who makes a one-off joke about child abuse isn't actually subjecting any children to any abuse. When the cameras turn off, most shocking or "edgy" entertainers are completely normal people. With DO5, there's clearly something going on behind the scenes. The abuse is not an act.

Cried at 13:00 minutes as memories of myself in the reflection of my bathroom mirror hiding from my father when I was a kid came flooding back. The Dad makes me fucking sick, it’s absolutely appalling to me that he could sit back and let his kids treat each other the way he did and then to go and treat them even worse. It’s unfortunate that he had to learn his lesson by having his kids taken away. The thought that he’ll eventually have them back terrifies me though.

The oldest sibling and dad teamed up to pour various liquids on him while he was showering, and one of those liquids was hot sauce. The hot sauce made its way into Alex's privates, and the pain was so bad that you can hear him both screaming for his dad's help and vomiting in the shower from the pain. These people are fucking vile.

I found very interesting your arguments about why people like things like Filthy Frank, MDE, iDubbbz and MaxMoeFoe but not DaddyOFive.
I think it has to do more with the fact that everything in those channels isn't harming a any bystanders, or if they are, it's all set-up and fake, and most importantly, not hurting fragile living things, like children. DaddyOFive is the anti-version of Family Vlog Channels, but it's so realistic, mean-spirited and cruel that it turns it to be one of the worst channels in TH-cam history. If all in the DO5 channel was fake and setup, we should see some kind of Behind The Scenes where the kids are having fun doing this stuff or at least they're not suffering, but to the eyes of everyone, it's all real.
All of the DaddyOFive videos aren't skits where everyone's having fun, they're a clear showing of child cruelty that tries to be comedic but it fails terribly and turns into child abuse. (And keep in mind you can do this type of stuff funny, but you must be extremely smart by doing it, which I'm sure that Mike and Heather don't even know how to turn this into an unfunny joke, it's just too cruel, disturbing and unsettling)
But there was that COTW that Filthy Frank did on 3 kids ("Meme Master" + his friend/brother and "The screecher") a big fan of Filthy Frank, but the consequences out-way every other outcome the video could have made.

DO5 is back under a new channel called FamilyoFive and they are back to their old ways except this time they are going after Ryan and Alex. Alex appears to be the new Cody. They are doing "pranks" on him the most.
This doesn't surprise me as it is known that in an abusive family with multiple children, one or two is usually targeted. If that child or children are removed the abusive parent(s) will usually focus on another child and the pattern repeats themselves.

The dad and Jake were taking the condiments out of the refrigerator and pouring them on Alex while he was in the shower. They poured ketchup, mustard, syrup, and hot sauce. And after they poured the hot sauce, he started screaming to be taken to the hospital because the hot sauce got into his junk. And naturally the dad and jake were laughing and asking Alex what he did.
So very sad. My brother and I were abused as kids and into our teens. When he finally ran away all the hate and abuse was turned on me. Seeing these kids go through that makes my heart break. I'm grown and still can feel the effects from my childhood. No kid should be treated like this. If they are that mean and abusive to their kids, why did they have kids (or so many) kids in the first place?

I think I figured out why so many survivors of child abuse are supporting them.
See, abusive adults often try to normalize their abuse to their victims. They tell them that everything that they do is standard practice, and that anyone who doesn't do the disgusting things they do is wrong.
These survivors never learned the horrible things they suffered through were wrong.
Also, many of them probably came from low income households, and thus equate having nice things to being in a good household situation, a common fallacy.

The three children who are still with DO5 are children of both of the parents who run the TH-cam channel. Cody and Emma who are the youngest are the fathers children and are the ones who where getting nearly all the abuse. The older three helped their parents and where being mean to Cody and Emma and one slammed cody on to the floor. The older kids are just as bad as their parents since they like to watch Cody and Emma suffer too and contributed to the abuse. Emma and Cody where the only ones in actual danger and where sent back to their mother. Cody and Emma's mother had anxiety and struggled a bit with raising cody and Emma on her own since they both had disabilities so after seven years she asked DO5 for help. The judge decided that because Cody and Emma's mother had anxiety DO5 could have custody of both children, Heather (DO5's wife) also wrote a false statement claiming Cody and Emma's mother was abusive towards the kids. Hopefully that made since and sorry that this is late

My guess is catch-22 and some sort of selfreasuring.
1. Catch-22 maybe better know nas the viicouius cicle. People who were abused tend to have psychopathic and sociopathic traits (not saying they are taht but they often share traits found in these mental illnesses). This leads to them enjoing violance if done to others, most likely because they can defelct some of their hurt onto someone else. And people who have been exposed to abuse as a child tend to think of it as normal - I know I have for a long time until I met my girlfriend whos parents showed me a completly different aporach to parenting and her sister having a child on their own showed me how much more "fun" it is for everyone if you love eachother without ne need of physical punishment (sad to say I was 17 at that time and it took my fucking aged to realise that beein slapped and hit by a belt was "not normal". And if one sees it as normal people used it in their everyday life. That is one of the reasons why those people have loyal fans. If these fans admit that if what they see is abuse they might to rethink their understandment of family and love and having that view turned upside down - trust me is a real struggle.
2. Selfreasuring.
now that is more of a lesser evil. People are wired weirdly that in order to feel good they need to compare themself with others and also have someone to look down to.
Both instances give their life meaning. Religious people do it in form of wrong and right religions and sinners and saints. Ideologicly blidned people do it by saing following a different livestyle is wrong. Hell even I do it in "looking down" on social sience from my high pedestal of beeing an engineer (although most of the time out of fun not real spite)
But if you belong to a lower class maybe even the lowest class (not talking that classes are good but they exsist in some form or another and out of lack of another word I wil lstick to class to classify a differatiating tool between income and education) you need someone to lookk down to inroder not to feel irrelevant (which is undertandable in same way).
Here come reality Tv-shows. Most of the aired shows (At least in my country) are shows which depict people in desperation lack of money, lack of education and in general hatred towards each other.
Classical scences are - Wife broke up with husband and her children are blaming her and going on a rampage and beeing cought by the police. Or people having so much debt that they are forced out of their home and live in a shelter.
Theses shows give people who have nobody to look down to someone to lookdown to and feel better about themself. "See they are so much worse of ahaha our life is not as bad."
Now as for my understanding these are reasons why those people creating such content have very loyal fans as debunking their view would mean that they have to rethink a lot in their life which is utterly painful.
Hope that might help to understand people a bit better on why and how these kinds of shows work.

The difference is idubbbz, Filthy Frank and How2Basic never actually hurt anyone. Their "counter culture" humor is satirical, and is definitely mocking and not meant to be nice, but they never actually do any damage to a specific person. Mike Martin screams at his own children to make them cry for humor and profit.
I actually didn't really care for the tangent in this video, because the 2 types of "counter culture" seem so incomparable because it's not "apple and oranges", it's "apples and aborted fetuses". I loved the video, it just seemed to kind of lose the point in the middle.
I wonder how many people who watched DO5 videos wanted some consolation as well. Same premise with SuperNanny and Teen Mom.
