I'm vietnamese and hearing rice's mom talk about him in vietnamese shows how dissapointed she is with him. She probably went to america with little to no english skills looking for a better life. Chances are she had nothing when she came so it must be devastating to see her son throw money around like it's nothing.

His subtitles are pretty accurate but i don't think it shows how dissapointed she is. In the underwear video she said: "go return it, why are you bragging to me about a 75$ underwear, why are you wasting my money". I guess he was left speechless by how mad she was and he couldn't tell her that he was flexing, therefore revealing to her that he has spent more money on more stupid shit. Just gonna clear up some translations because ricegum's manipulates these so much and I'm Vietnamese. What ricegum's mom said more accuratly translates to "why did you have to buy that?" Which in my opinion is even worst. She also didn't say why are you wasting money, she is asking him why money is so meaningless to him. She is pretty pissed that her son trys to piss her off on purpose. The one that's pisses me off the most is how his mom just doesn't want him to call her when he buys expensive items and he acts like his mom is a bad person on the translation.

I know that this video is literally almost 3 years old, but as someone who is a rape victim, her behavior towards Rice feels like she is trying her best to take back her power. I know where you're coming from but many parents don't want to do anything with their children's money. In my family, everybody minds his own business, for example when my foreign grandparents want to come visit, I am not even allowed to pay for the plane. All The Artsy yea, but I think the main difference between Joji and all of them is that Joji was a TH-camr in the sense that he made videos, played characters, wrote skits, etc. whereas people like Justin Beiber or Carly Rae Jepson were musicians who uploaded them playing music on TH-cam and were “discovered” by the industry. Joji quit making videos and completely switched gears to make music. Even the music he made for his TH-cam was completely different that the stuff he makes as a professional musician. I’ve been in a weird position. I was only touched and told all these really weird things like “you remind me of my dead wife.” And “ I love you” and a bunch of other really personal things. I wasn’t raped but something was definitely going on. He was my math tutor so I was confused why this was getting less professional and why he would force me to hug him and he would kiss my cheek for an uncomfortable amount of time. For me the saddest part while he was flexing on his mom was when she asked if that was all he hd to say to her. Like, imagine working so hard for the majority of your life so you can give your kid a better life, and then when your kid finally gets big, all they wanna call you for is to upset you. He only has like three lines of original points and in all of those he only makes himself look dumb. The rest of the song is him flexing about the same shit he usually flexes. TH-cam success if fickle. Rice is making enough cash that all he has to do is put away a few millions and he'll never have to worry about taking care of his parents or his own future and can then spend willynilly. YMS has been a member of his indie band An Unkindness since around 2010, which is about when he started the series YourMovieSucks, and likely well before his channel got popular. So he semi-counts, I guess. One of his songs actually ended up getting spotted on TH-cam and picked up by Blondie on one of their albums, so he technically has a writing credit on a professionally performed song.
Troye Sivan is probably the only true TH-camr, aside from Bo Burnham, but Bo is more of a comic who uses music in his standup. But Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tori Kelly, 5 Seconds of Summer, Charlie Puth, Shawn Mendes, James Bay, Alessia Cara, Halsey, and many more got started by just uploading their covers online and then being noticed by a newspaper or a talk show.
All The Artsy yea, but I think the main difference between Joji and all of them is that Joji was a TH-camr in the sense that he made videos, played characters, wrote skits, etc. whereas people like Justin Beiber or Carly Rae Jepson were musicians who uploaded them playing music on TH-cam and were “discovered” by the industry. Joji quit making videos and completely switched gears to make music. Even the music he made for his TH-cam was completely different that the stuff he makes as a professional musician. That’s where he differs even from people like Jared Dines or Sarah Longfield who make content around the fact that they’re musicians so starting bands is just the next logical step for them.

I’ve been in a weird position. I was only touched and told all these really weird things like “you remind me of my dead wife.” And “ I love you” and a bunch of other really personal things. I wasn’t raped but something was definitely going on. He was my math tutor so I was confused why this was getting less professional and why he would force me to hug him and he would kiss my cheek for an uncomfortable amount of time. I didn’t say anything for a while. I kept telling myself I’m overthinking this or I’m over reacting. When I talked to my friend who went to him as well she told me this didn’t happen to her. I thought that was weird. I still didn’t say anything though. I kept telling myself if he takes it further, or reasoning out his weird behavior. Eventually he was getting closer and closer to uncomfortable spots and he kept on kissing my cheek for longer even when I told him it made me uncomfortable. Soon went to a therapist for another thing and I really wasn’t going to say anything but I honestly was just so done with being so uncomfortable. I thought my parents would be mad at me, or say that I made it up. When I told my therapist she asked if I wanted to tell my parents and I asked if she could do it for me. To my surprise my parents where very understanding and let me not go to him anymore. I used to think that if I was in a situation like that I would be able to speak up. It’s really not that easy. Its embarrassing and I felt like part of it was my fault.
