      Use student loan money to hire private chef during dedicated. Pay off loans later with that 250+ step specialty salary.
      Alternatively, live off of microwave meals and simple stuff like cereal, yogurt, protein shakes, noodles, PB&J, etc. It's only for 6 weeks or so after all!

    A higher score of USMLE is very admirable. It is one of our dreams to achieve with difficulty actually. A requirement of high score is to understand diseases in details with physiological logics in my opinion. I am not good at clinical questions of USMLE because of lack of experiences in real clinical situations.

    One of my lab partners had the highest score in the U.S. Our class was the highest scoring in step one and the second highest on step 2. The class before ours were top scorers in both.
    We didn't do anything in particular to "prepare". Our whole med. school experience was our preparation. But we were tested every single week to be sure that we were absorbing what we needed to know. The faculty were very obsessive.

    There are some changes in exam pattern from 4th May, 2020. Apart from increasing questions to test communication skills, they have removed patient care part from 'competency' section. It is really confusing.

    Several questions future doctors about dedicated studying period time:
    When people say here "dedicated studying period" what do you mean by "dedicated"
    a) How long usually are these periods?
    b) How many hours a day to study in that period?
    c) How many NBME's do you do in that period?
    d) Do NBMEs start being taken in that period, or prior to?
    e) At what state are you in your studies once that period started? (e.g., how many times did you cover FA and Uworld?)
    Sorry, I'm really curious and you guys don't have to answer all of these questions.

    It is important for IMGs (international medical graduates) to know that an 8 weeks study plan is most likely not enough for an IMG... I think Kevin is targeting American med students whose (as far as I know) study programs are based on the USMLE exams, so 8 weeks are enough.
    An IMG mostly need much more time to prepare, 6 months to a year from what I’ve heard

    • @T-Bone99
      @T-Bone99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on what year in med school you plan to take the USMLE. A lot of IMGs, including myself are on 6 year med school programs, so they take it at the end of their 4th year usually. And there are lots of holidays, like summer holidays you can use as an IMG to study for the USMLE a few years in advance and take like 10+ weeks of extreme dedicated time before you actually take the exam. And then 1-2 years later you take STEP2 CK. I have yet to take either exams, but it's very doable for IMGs. Especially because there are even Americans complaining saying that we have more of an advantage because we have more time to study and get higher scores. That's why the average IMG resident actually has higher scores than the average US MD resident.

    • @TinaOnEarth
      @TinaOnEarth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that the 2 months is probably for US medical students, and the trend is that international students would need more time to prepare apparently? I guess if you study diligently throughout your main coursework then it would take the stress off of prepping for the USMLE later depending on the individual.

    • @nihalfd8603
      @nihalfd8603 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same here in algeria...but he said that he went twice on pathoma and FA before those 2 months of preparation, so if you consider that he utilised them during studying his lectures ,then rereading them twice again after the exam prep, he won't need much time passing throw them in that period of prep... in result he won't need more than 4 weeks

What I did was do as many Uworld Questions as possible and make sure I understood and knew the explanations from them. Try to take away the general concept from each question. The other thing is to take multiple practice tests simulating test day conditions so you can build some stamina and be ready. Best o luck and reach out if you have any more questions! Hey friend! 4th year med student here in the process of matching. The big things to use to prep for step 1 is First aid and uworld. If you have a strong foundation from those two your knowledge base should be fine!
