  • "First", 1997 Vap.
Charisma formed in 1996. In early 1997, the group surprisingly went major and signed to Vap, and that June, Charisma released their first full length album, "First", to mild mainstream success. The group went on to tour throughout the remainder of 1997 and most of 1998 quite intensely, and later released their second full length album, "Second", in October of 1998. Although Charisma were failing to become a cross over success, the group had remarkable underground success, especially among the indies visual scene. By the end of 1998, Charisma had their first lineup change when bassist Masaki left, and presumably due to their poor sales in the mainstream market, the group were also dropped from the Vap roster by the spring of 1999. Masaki was soon replaced by Ami, however, and Charisma went on to rapidly extend their underground following by touring extensively throughout 1999. In May of 2000, Charisma released their third full length album, "3rd", which was a massive success in the visual underground. In October of 2000, the group released their first single "For Promise", which was another smash hit in the underground scene, and by the end of the year, the group were already considered to be veterans in the visual underground, and also crossed over to other underground music circles in Japan as well, which is very rare for a visual-associated group to do. Charisma went on to tour heavily throughout 2001 and 2002, although despite their legendary status and remarkable sales, the group announced their official disbandment in the summer of 2002. Charisma then played their final live in September of 2002, and split immediately afterwards. Ami went on to temporarily join the legendary underground group G.D. Flickers, but soon left and reformed his old group Blotto Rockers, which remains active today with Ami as the frontman. The frontman of Charisma, Takeiri (竹入), went on to form his own solo group Takeiri Band, under his full name of Takayuki Takeiri (竹入隆行). Takeiri Band remains active today, under the simplified name of Takeban (タケバン). The drummer of Charisma, Lager, went on to become a support musician for numerous indies groups and artists, both visual and non-visual, and is currently active as the support drummer for the underground musician Chirolyn. The guitarist of Charisma, Matsumoto (松本), also became a prolific support musician, and these days works as a drummer for various underground artists.
