Caress formed in 1995. That December, the group released its first demo, "S-E-X", which was live-distributed only. Caress would release four more demos throughout 1996, but ran into its first lineup change late that year when drummer To-ru left. He was not immediately replaced, and Caress went on to release their sixth demo, "For Rains", in May of 1997. In the summer of 1997, To-ru was finally replaced by Yu-zou, and in September of 1997, Caress released its first single, "Unbalance (アンバランス)", which was live-distributed for one-night only. In August of 1998, the group released its second single "Equal/Cloudy Life", which was limited to an impressive total of 10,000 copies. Despite its large pressing for a band with a relatively smaller profile, the single ended up being a colossal smash in the visual underground, shockingly selling out. In January of 1999, Caress released its seventh demo "X-Day" which was released for one-night only, and later released their eighth demo that April, "Secret1", which was limited to 1,000 copies and quickly sold out. In July of 1999, Caress released their third single "De-Light", which, although not as successful as "Equal/Cloudy Life" was, was still a smash for the group, and a month later, the group released its ninth demo, "S.T.F", which was released for one-night only and limited to 150 copies. By the end of 1999, Caress had managed to shoot to the top of the indies visual scene, and in April of 2000, the group released its fourth single "Walk ~Mada Mienai Mirai~ (まだ見えない未来)", which was limited to 1,000 copies, and immediately sold out. It was then repressed a second time that August, and Caress would release two more demos throughout 2000, and later appeared on the "Second Culture Battle! Compilation Vol.3" omnibus in December of 2000. In August of 2001, Caress released their first-ever mini-album "Kaze (風)", which was, unsurprisingly, another smash success for the group, and Caress would tour throughout the remainder of 2001 heavily, before shockingly announcing their official disbandment late that year. Caress would play a few more lives in 2002, before officially disbanding that April. Yu-zou would retire from the visual scene and instead join the indies group Secondline, which would eventually disband in 2006. He, along with the rest of the members of Secondline, would immediately afterwards form the group Lungselmo (ラングセルモ), with Yu-zou going by his full name of Yuzou Toyota (豊田裕三), although the group would eventually disband as well in 2009. After a period of silence, Yuzou would return as a member of the group Nano an Aperture in 2011, which would eventually split as well in the fall of 2016. The bassist of Caress, Tatsuya (竜也), would go on to become a support musician of the indies group N_C_Z, before soon leaving and retiring from the visual scene and becoming a member of Sonic Smart Suzzy, primarily a solo project of Justy-Nasty vocalist Kenichi Fujisaki (藤崎賢一). When the project eventually folded in 2003, he would join Kenichi in his new project, Solid Hearts, which would also dissolve in 2004. Afterwards, he would return to the visual scene as a member of the supergroup Hikagane (弾鐘), which would feature members of Cuve, Need and Little Vampire. When the group eventually split in late 2007, however, he would become a support musician for the then-newly reformed Cuve, until eventually leaving and temporarily disappearing from the underground music scene in general. The frontman of Caress, Taikou (たいこう), would join the obscure indies group Blen Heim, which would split as well after less than a year of activity. He would then form the visual group Liquid, which would also disband after just a little over a year of activity. Afterwards, Taikou would then retire from the visual scene, and the underground music scene in general. In 2017, after 15 years apart, Caress would surprisingly announce its reunion, with the group releasing their first single in 17 years in August of 2017, "Memories Not, a Real", which was live-distributed only. In January of 2018, Caress would release another single, "Not Escape Yourself", which was live-distributed only as well. Caress would play a few more lives before eventually disbanding a second time, not too long after the release of "Not Escape Yourself". Afterwards, Taikou would return to his retirement, while Tatsuya would become a support musician for the indies visual supergroup Idol Love Channel (アイドルラブチャンネル), which he is still active in today. Yuzou, on the other hand, would form the indies group Non Stop Sunekajiri, which would dissolve in 2022. He would then rejoin Tatsuya as a support musician for Idol Love Channel (アイドルラブチャンネル), as well as a session musician for occasional one-offs, which he is still active as today.
