▶︎Police chase of a gas Ford Mustang in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio, United States, May 22, 2022 - Logan City police in Ohio have a new Tesla Model Y cruiser, received only last year, and saw a high-speed police chase (pursuit) in the electric vehicle (EV) last month. A new video shows a Tesla Model Y police cruiser chasing down a gas Ford Mustang outside of Columbus, Ohio. The video begins with a traffic stop from speeding, made at around 8:40 a.m. on May 22 by a Logan City Police Department Officer Jason Gadrim.
During the traffic stop, a female passenger exits the vehicle, to which the officer responds by asking her to get back in the car. When she approaches the passenger side door, the Mustang driver takes off with the Model Y following suit. The police chase lasts around 30 minutes, spanning between 40 and 45 miles to Columbus, Ohio at the US-33/I-270 junction where the police chase (pursuit) was terminated without the driver being caught.
While the suspect is still at large and is under investigation, the female passenger has added that she wants to report her car, the Mustang, stolen. The Model Y seems to have kept up well with the Mustang for the most part, and even had the driver trapped at a one-way at one point before escaping-maybe to prevent damaging the Model Y? The officer appears to keep a safe distance from the Mustang in the police chase (pursuit).

What i like to know as a Tesla owner how much battery energy did you go through on that chase?
fun fact : when individuals run from the police at a high rate of speed its usually a sign they have done something wrong, or know they have a warrant out for their arrest.
When they refuse to answer question asked during rhe stop, I guess that's highly suspicious too & you'd get a dog to ask 1st.
2ndly, he stopped twist, and was chased twice, if you did that to a police car it would be harassment.

Hopefully soon most departments will have Model Y's as patrol units and Model S's as highway units. They are perfect with their instant torque however they are very expensive unfortunately.
Up-front expensive yes, but they generally pay for themselves in a couple years once you factor in not needing to do shit like oil and transmission fluid changes, brake pad changes (regen does so much braking that the factory brake pads can last the life of the vehicle), timing belt replacements, stupid little shit like that which adds up quick when you've got a fleet of vehicles you're beating on.

Great fella Jason, the whole PD at Logan Ohio are great people. l watched this chase live at the time on his feed. l was very impressed with the EV speed & how Jason drove it & if anyone ever wanted to know about EV's he would give a honest opinion on them.

The officer was very calculated and calm, keeping a good distance throughout most of the case to give others a chance to react.
A PIT maneuver for someone running a traffic stop is just silly...

Nice to see a chilled out copper who's not thirsty for carnage for a change.
The thing is, he's stated multiple times on his livestreams that the music and singing generally helps distract him from prior events in his 27-year career as a police officer. Like he can totally see this going sideways in a heartbeat and he doesn't want to dwell on that, so he focuses on singing as a distraction.
Now the 1.5 hr drive back at posted speed. 😞

This cop is very immature. He had the opportunity to stop him at the dead end road but due to his fears and coward less he decided to ride it out.
Tesla boy got owned by a Mustang. Could have stopped him early in the chase but was scared to face the bad guy without backup.

The people who dont pull over to the right and follow the rules of the road should be ticketed heavily and have their driver's licenses suspended for a minimum amount of time. NOT because they didn't pull over to the right for a cop, but because stupid people that dont pay attention or understand the rules of the road are the ones that put everyone else in danger or end up frustrating other drivers.
Not sure what the officer was driving but it appeared he could catch that mustang any time he wanted. Too bad a pit wasn’t authorized.
Logan PD doesn't authorize its officers to conduct pits.

It ran low on power because they didn’t charge it the shift prior. Same as a gas car running out of gas because it was not fueled up.

@@pizzasubs Same as a gas car. If you cruise at 120 MPH for an hour, you will lose way more energy (Gas or electric) than you would cruising at 60 for two. They have enough capacity to stay in chases.

(1) There was no excuse for that pursuit. When he reversed on the dead end road you shouldve put them push bumpers as far into that mustang as possible (i.e. UP HIS ASS!)
(2) 30 minute chase & NO other agency could get ahead & deploy stop sticks????????
If you watch the video.. there is a point where the highway patrol deploys stop sticks. The first set he swerves and misses. I believe this causes an accident that Fairfield Co Sheriff's Office handled. A mile or two later another patrolman was waiting to deploy but wasn't able to. I believe because another vehicle was in the area.
As for ramming the suspect vehicle.. the department has a no contact policy for pursuits. Plus, the Mustang probably would have survived being rammed by a Tesla.

I was impressed by how this Tesla kept up with the Mustang... up until the battery ran low and the officer had to drop out of the chase to look for a charger to sit at for half an hour. The gas cars don't seem to have as much trouble with that.
Yeah. I drive a Mustang, but just about any Tesla made has a longer range in miles than my car does. It is not a fuel efficient vehicle. I can go about 250 miles on a full tank of gas; a quick google search says a Model Y can go 330 miles.
He didn’t drop out of the chase because of the battery. Did you not see the other patrol cars involved? It’s not like they couldn’t continue the chase if his battery did in fact die…
This wasn't a case of running low on charge, this was a case of crossing county lines and not getting any help in the pursuit from officers in that county. Since the perp left not only Logan but Hocking county he stopped being their problem.

He livestreams "real police work," which unnerves some people because it doesn't fit what the media narrative tells them police are always doing. Like the vast majority of his patrols have nothing remotely close to this happening. If he pulls someone over, it's usually just to tell them to get their rear license plate light fixed, and he hates writing tickets because it's just more paperwork for little to no benefit.

I wasn’t worried about the live stream at all. I had to run the live stream per the department. You just didn’t understand that for you were coming to the party without knowledge. I am retired now so no worries anyways
