I’m a die hard Red Sox fan. But Jeter is a class act. Players of his caliber, on and off the field, are few and far between. I, as most Sox fans, have nothing but respect for this man.

It's the same reason Cubs fans respected Yadier Molina despite being a Cardinal. Once you get to a certain point, especially if you haven't turned out to be a scumbag in your personal life, you earn that respect. Opposition or not, true fans of the game respect greatness.

I was returning from a business trip from Boston to Newark, NJ. The guy next to me was a Sox fan (of course) and we started talking Yanks-Sox. He told me that he had nothing but respect for Jeter after Jeter went crashing into the seats to catch a foul ball and came up all bloody. Then I told him I was terrified every time Manny came up to bat. We had a good laugh.

@@GoldtriggerDude the same game that Nomar sat in the dugout pouting over his contract. Had more respect for Jeter after that game and getting rid of Nomar was the reason the Sox won it all that year.

I'm from Boston and a lifelong Red Sox fan and always want the Sox to beat the Yankees but you have to respect Derek Jeter. He was the consummate professional. His ovation showed that the fans were more than just Red Sox fans but were true fans of baseball.

This moment is when I started liking the Red Sox as a Yankee fan. Putting the (deserved) respect on one of the biggest names in baseball in a way only Fenway could is awesome and a great send-off from a great rival. I wished for Ortiz to get a better one than he did in the Bronx, but at least we put some love on him too.

I can proudly say that I was at #2 DJ last game at Fenway Park. It was a memory that I will never forget and the most respectful Yankee/Red Sox game I had ever attended. We all stood for #2 DJ for what he brought to the game of baseball. I bought the special shirt sold only at Fenway at the last #2DJ game to remember that day. I am glad after watching this video that DJ felt the respect of Red Sox Nation standing with him on that day.

I’m a lifelong Yankees fan. The send off the Red Sox and their fans gave at Fenway completely changed my attitude toward Boston teams and fans. The fact is, historically, we have defined each other. Name your sport, does New York want to beat Boston? Every damn time. And the feeling is mutual, but so is the respect. There are times I think that all that matters is New York and Boston, then everyone else.

I'm a Red Sox fan. When I was a kid, I DESPISED Thurman Munson because of the Fisk/Munson stuff. I bawled my eyes out when I heard the horrendous news about Thurman Munson's plane crash. I was young, but it was then when I realized that even though I don't like the Yankees or the laundry that they wear, the rivalry is nothing without the players. And tragically, a legendary Yankee player had been taken away too soon. We would never get to see Fisk/Munson go at it again. RIP Thurman Munson.

Lifelong Red Sox fan: Jeter was a tremendous athlete, passionate competitor, first ballot hall of famer (should have been unanimous), and played the game clean and hard. He played baseball in a timeless way and would have fit into any era. Not a showboat, all business on the field, let his playing speak for him, and had a true love for the game that was as much his uniform as a Yankees jersey was. What's not to like. A absolutely well deserved standing ovation for Jeter from Boston fans.

Diehard Red Sox fan here that’s probably the truest description of Jeter. I can’t say he’s the best player I ever saw in 41 years but I will say at SS he’s easily top 3 all time. The ability to be clutch on offense and more so on defense like the play against the A’s with the flip to home to get Giambi I believe no one else makes that play. It was truly amazing watching cheering against Jeter his entire career at Fenway because at the end of the day YOJ respect him everyone respects him

Much respect for this class act from a Sox fan. Direct opposite of his contemporary and teammate, A-Rod. How poetic was it that in the 2004 ALCS game 6, Jeter knocks in a run with a single to make the score 4-2. A-Rod comes to the plate as the tying run, then hits the infamous come-backer to the mound, after which he slaps the ball out of Arroyo's glove, rendering him out and Jeter back to 1st base from 3rd. One guy comes up clutch, the other guy flames out and resorts to dirty tactics.

Jeter dove face first into the stands at Fenway for a foul ball, the same exact game that Manny faked a injury and sat out because he was pissed at the Sox. Again, I’m a diehard Sox fan. But if that isn’t telling, what is?

I effing HATE Jeter. Always have, always will. And yeah, I'm a Sox fan since 60 years ago. Nope, you didn't hear me cheering for that over-rated goof. Never will.
