Raced an R boat out of CYC on Eire. Running back stays are bitch and 17 inches of freeboard is wet. I was convinced by others that the fleet would start a race from the protection of a river into /SW high wind and waves one Sunday morning. We were first to leave the protection of the river with no reef in the main and a number two genoa we merry band of fools went out. We could not jibe the damn boat due to the waves and wind. I looked back and the rest of the fleet had fled back up the river after seeing our predicament. I tacked the boat and we scurried back up the river under the protection of the cliffs. That was the last time I ever listened to someone else's decision to take the boat out in inclimate weather.
