Can't highway lobby hates them. New York City doesn't even have them! And it's for a reason. GM worked hard to get rid of these things and passenger trains by taking the mail off them.

Wish we still had trolleys - in Ithaca AND in Cortland!

I'm sure GM was right there to loan the money to the bus company to buy out the trolley company and scrap the system out.
Imagine them trying to go up Buffalo Street or Gun Hill.
I think there actually used to be one on Buffalo and Seneca.
