One thing I had to sort of think about when landing fish is being deliberate about my hooksets. This may not apply here as I didn't see much wrong with the hooksets but I tend to set the hook straight up when I'm in currents like that. It usually tends to hook them in the top of the mouth, and I have found better success in hooking trout. It's always tough losing fish though :/ tight lines!

I fish there a lot. I was in the upper section last over thanksgiving and I landed about a dozen and they were on either a 26 or an egg

Such an amazing section of river and next time I go back I'm brining some smaller flies as smallest I had this day was 22

@@jakekaiser1399 Honestly, I would get some pegged eggs. I don’t fish them a lot but if you are trying to get into some more fish it is worth it. They are crazy productive and they work pretty well in chessman. Then do a 26 and that should crush them.

I fish here regularly, this time of year is tough - however, I can almost garauntee your weight was not correct. I would also find fish in the riffles vs the pools - contrary to popular belief. And lastly, 22s have been generally too big since early october. 24-26s on short shank hooks will get you a lot of bites and a few more to the net. Dont forget globug eggs for the next two or so weeks.

Thanks for the advice and I didn't have anything smaller than 22s this day and would have loved to go smaller. I'll keep the globug eggs in mind as well and good luck out there

Something I noticed is that your indicator appeared to be within a couple feet of you fly line to indicator connection. I definitely fish my indicator at least 7 feet down from where the line connects to the leader. I try and avoid having the fly line anywhere near the fish, they definitely know what’s going on if you line them. You also might want to experiment with using a dry dropper setup to be a little more stealthy. I’m sure the Platte is a different story with the amount of pressure but can’t do 6x tippet…..I’m almost alway running 5x. Best of luck out there, thanks for sharing 👍

So here's actually saying that you might consider memorizing and then follow it when things are as they are. The saying is when the fishing is good moves slow and when the fishing is not so good move faster

Ah yes I know the feeling all to well of losing fish at chesseman. I tie 4-5X on the last fly and always get broken off at 5X. Maybe I’ll try mono all the way tomorrow instead of fluorocarbon since it has more stretch, supposedly. Great vid. Keep it up.
