Excellent explanation of a very confusing cast on technique! I've been wanting to try it but video tutorials have been confusing me. Yours made sense. Thank you!!!
Some of the pictures on my blog are of an old design which did present with all knit on one side and all purl on the other. It was a cute design, but it had fit issues so I redesigned it and is now made just as you describe. When the moebius is worn, the top half flips over and all you see is stockinette st. If you're using my Double Striped Moebius pattern, I promise, it really does work out!
Thanks for a clear and succinct video. I'm putting together a moebius pattern and plan to incude a link to this in my instructions. I think it's very helpful for knitters who are new to this form. Well done, you!
@littlebdancer, Thanks for the question, and for your kind words. You can very easily begin knitting with the yarn in your left hand after the cast-on without flipping the needles at all. At that point, it doesn't matter which hand is holding the yarn. Hope this helps.
I have started my moebius and thought I had it wrong until I read and watched this post again and realized I was supposed to have one side knit and one side purl. thanks for a great video.
It sounds like you're doing just the right thing! You will have one side present as knit and one side present as purl from the spine out - it's the nature of the beast. Keep going and it will all turn out well!
@BeStrixed You could cast on fewer stitches on a smaller length cable needle, but you would want to have enough stitches that the moebius will go over your head. I probably wouldn't go with fewer than 80 sts and it would be more of a neckwarmer than something that drapes. Hope this helps.
@Poofyxlala , The half twist is needed in order to make a moebius, or infinity scarf. If there is no twist, then you'll just be making a cowl. Thanks for your question.
Question: I noticed that after casting on, your working yarn is in your right hand. I usually knit with the working yarn in my left hand. Would it be wrong if I casted on in this manner but flipped the needles so that my working yarn is in my left hand?
I've watched several tutorials as well as taken a class. This is among the best, most clear video on starting a moebius that I've seen. Thank you!!!

Thanks for such clear instructions! I will now finally attack the mobius scarf I've been wanting so long.

Hi Mimi Kenzer...I would ask You how many is long the cable and how Many stitches you mount ? Tank you so much by Luciana
This is a very clear and complete tutorial...I dislike Cat's tutorial with her little strange analogies...good work!
I wonder if you know how to mobius with fewer stitches? I find all instructions/videos call for so many. How about a small mobius? Thanks!

Thanks a lot. Very clear explanations. Will give it a try.
Great tutorial I'm going to cast on as soon a I can and thanks!!!
is that a left-handed tutorial? the yarn is certainly held in the wrong hand to be a right-handed tut. might want to put left-handed in the title
not left handed
I don’t understand the utility of tris casting…sorry
