As a member of the Renaissance Appreciation Society in the 70’s, I was privileged to meet the band backstage. The guys in the band were amazingly friendly and Annie doubly so. I was aware not to be a jerk so I only said hello. Great band. Ocean Gypsy is my favourite.

I have been a fan since I first heard "Sounds of the Sea" in 1972. I first got to hear the band perform live in a grubby, former bus parking garage, a block from the beach in Asbury Park , New Jersey. Opening for them was was an unknown NYC band that had just released it's debut album , KISS. I remember, amid the smoke machnes and fire spewing hearing "Strutter", and "Cold Gin" , songs I still love. But I was there for Renaissance, and they did not disappoint. "Ashes Are Burning" was of course the best song of the night, but "Things I Don't Understand" struck me most. i still love that song. God bless Annie.

There are no crushes in prog. Well, Annie's an exception to the rule. Annie looks great and remains a very talented artist. Renaissance was a game changer for me. All great musicians, but her angelical voice and Jon Camp's bass, doesn't get any better. RIP Mike Dunford. Hope you and Peter Green coincide in a jam soon, wherever you are.

The one song I always thought would be a good song for a radio edit would have been "Day Of The Dreamer." By editing out the slow section in the middle, the upbeat start and end of the song fused together could have been released as the follow-up single to "Northern Lights." It might have appealed to more of the Rock crowd along with the Pop music crowd and been another hit for the band.

I purchased all three. Oh, later on, I needed a place to put/hide a wall hanging for Rob LaDuca in honor of his work on this and all previous NEARFest projects. So, anyway, later on, Annie and I went to my vehicle to get the wall hanging, and ouch! I almost locked the keys in the back of my vehicle. Annie pointed out, "Look, you are about to lock your keys in your vehicle". So, in a way, she saved my life! @@SRV2013 I came to Renaissance very late, only about 5 years ago, and Novella is a weak album to me. I like their music when it is upbeat and more rock than folk. I don't know why Novella is so highly regarded when it has no memorable songs to me except for Midas Man which is OK.
I will also say that my favorite music is more hard rock to Progressive rock so I am drawn more to the upbeat songs. Having said that, I do really like Ocean Gypsy even though I originally heard the cover of the song by Blackmore's Night. Carpet of the Sun, Running Hard, Black Flame, Vultures Fly High, Northern Lights, Day of the Dreamer, and Flight are the songs I tend to listen to the most. I do like some of the live versions of Ashes are Burning although it sometimes can drag on too long. The vocal tour de force by Annie near the end is the highlight of the song for me.

I love the way Annie says ya for yes, exactly how my Aunties from Bristol said it, Lancashire is only very slightly close to West Country, it's incredible!!! 🥰

The English rose, Annie is. Perhaps the ‘70s primal female voice, hard pressed to think of another (British or otherwise) female singer exemplifying the decade as much. Maybe Karen Carpenter as far as America's concerned, for the UK/Europe I'd say Haslam embodies it like few others.

Karen Carpenter was a fan of Renaissance ironically.
