This might be boring stuff to a lot of NHLers but this is fascinating stuff for the rest of us. No drama, no politics, no nothing. Just giving us a peek at what the NHL experience is like. Such a refreshing change to what we see online. Thanks and subscribed!
I agree, except some of it sounds rather political, at least sitting at the front of the plane & waiting for the vets to get off first. I’m not saying right or wrong, but there’s certainly a political element…. Poor Hosang being late for training camp, seemed to change the trajectory of his entire career.
Man, I've been loving this channel. As someone who didn't play high-level organized hockey, it's really fascinating to hear all of this. Was already a fan of yours from your time on the Hawks, but this channel has made me a big fan.
Man! Love these videos! Such a nice change from the “speculation podcasts” where media guys talk like they know everything but really have no clue. Keep up the good work!
Apparently Jake DeBrusk was late a ton and missed a bunch of meetings 🤔 I was sad to see him go to the Canucks but I guess there was a bunch of people in the Bruins org that were really frustrated with him. Must’ve been a big issue.
Wow, that was super interesting. Thanks for pulling back the curtain a bit! Now I have to check out all your other content. (LOVE the missing the bus/cab story lol)
locker room talk is just that - it doesn't leave the room or be carried home. always good to catch up w friends or stay in the room until 2 in the morning having a few w the team after a crazy game. Lamborghini Perlini, always liking your videos. I'll be sure to tell my buddies about your channel. Pretty cool insight
These are some lovely nuggets, love these videos! I know one thing through some of the Finnish boys in the NHL - to get into the poker table on the bus or the plane, somebody else has to forfeit their place. Basically, if you are part of the poker-playing group, you are in it, you can't come and go as you please or you lose your spot. However this could be different in different teams.
Wife teases me because on Fridays I get excited for your videos. Great content delivered by a guy who feels like your best friend just chillin. Amazing job, keep up the great work.
Wow, thank you! Im honored!! Tell her u not to bother you and let u watch the whole thing through, u guys can Netflix and chill after the vids done 😉😂😂
Great content - love hearing this inside stuff. One thing I’d love to learn about is the signing process to a new club - how negotiations take place and what terms are worked out. And then what’s the environment like as you get started afterwards. Could be a really cool series unless of course an NDA is in force, of course.
I could listen to this all day everyday. I have a question after watching this playoffs! How many Hockey sticks do you go through. Sticks flying everywhere!😂 Absolutely love your channel.
How many in one season? A video on how you get your Hockey sticks, how you pick them, how many you have at one time, who takes care of them, etc. I have always wondered that.
Of course, I knew about the logo rule and I also know that some newer locker rooms are putting the logo on the roof instead just to keep anyone from accidentally (or I guess, purposefully) stepping on it.
Man I moved to Southpark a year ago and enjoyed watching you with the Checkers this season as a Hawks fan. I saw you were there PTO. Best of luck brother
I got back out on the ice yesterday after a 6 month hiatus from a knee injury..longest time not on the ice since I started skating when I was around 2 years old, I'll be 40 in October...blew my meniscus out in February. She's sore today but it sure was sweet to be back out there
Thanks for the great content! There's a guy that is on youtube that collects all your cards and has some of your best cards out there, his name is zeeree.
My first vid. Great content. So much revolves around respect. Traditions are important part of making things work. Throwing the jersey to the ceiling was new to me, too funny.
Good thing y'all didn't play with Larry Bird in ball, because, as a rookie, he told the veterans he wasn't carrying no bags, or doin' any of that hazing the rookie stuff. He laid down the law with the first vet who tried to make him carry his bag, and no one dared challenge him about it. Larry Legend!
Stumbled on this channel and it’s terrific. Really like the stories and the insight into the life of an NHL player. I do have a question though. Who pays for the players gear? As you climb the ladder in hockey, juniors, OHL, AHL up to the NHL. Do the players pay for their skates and sticks? Does the team pay for everything? Do they get a huge discount? Curious.
Ill have another video coming on this but if you haven't I did a video on sponsorship you should watch! doesn't really answer ur question about who pays which is the team, but I think you would like it as to the ins and outs on sponsored deals
unreal video love this stuff. how does this work for guys who are 2 way players? someone who’s been in the A a while does he sit in the front when he’s called up?
So would a guy like Connor Bedard be in the front of the bus/plane waiting for the veterans to exit first or do the rules change for generational players?
Conor would want to be the same as the other rooks...if ya ever listened to wayne Gretzky, the best thing in the locker room is to just be one of the guys.. not the guy
Hey Brendan! Tell us some stories on what it's like to be traded, or new guys coming in or some teammates getting traded mid season. Is it easy to get integrated and stuff?
I’m pretty sure Pat Burns started the no stepping on Logo in Toronto. It was reported he yelled at one of his players when they dropped their jersey on the floor after a loss and he lost his shhhh on the team and they started the no step on logo and hang up jerseys
Stepping on the logo, a direct pass to H*LL. Skate on the logo, A-OKAY! We are a weird species. Making the young-ones sit up front in the bus is because the first 10 feet of the bus is called the Impact Zone!
I knew about the logo, but I always wonder why the logo is still on the floors if it's such a problem. I mean as a design scheme it looks good, but the logo in some locker rooms takes up a large part of the floor.
I'm... Actually surprised I knew all but the plane seating rules. Then again, I've been playing hockey for 31 years. Make your way up to Milwaukee some time and teach my team some shit. We're getting smoked this season, lol
Somewhat related story Rookie baseball player: Mr Henderson you have tenure take my seat Ricky Henderson: tenure!! (Ten years) I’ve been in this league 15 years 😂 Also what about language…is it English only?
So, when McDavid or Bedard show up and skate circles around everyone, they will be relegated to sitting at the front of the plane and treated like a cabin boy? That would be a real doozie, right there. Your 4th line plug is pushing the future superstar around. What a boost to a man's ego.
yep.. way she goes. they don't care who's coming in the league, if u haven't earned it yet you have to pay your dues. 4th line guy could be a huge asset to the team morale as a "glue" guy... keeps young guys egos in check
@Bubzp11 Yeah, but losing a "glue" guy usually amounts to your GM having to spend a 5th or 6th round pick to get some more glue from another team. To get a McDavid, MacKinnon, Bedard, type only comes around during a red moon 🌙 when Saturn is in Sagittarius and Venus is in Aquarius. Well... obviously, you know more than me, but that is my take. I would find it preposterous to see one of those guys being maligned by a guy who spent 6 years in and out of the minors before getting a spot to play 8 minutes a night while staring down the barrel of the waiver wire.
@@Vdoom777 im not saying they treat them like shit im saying there's a respect process in the league and whether u like it or not it's just what happens. Don't ask me why exactly. right ideas but your thinking too deep on it! it's like anything in life, you don't step into a company and become the boss. But I like ur thinking 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻😎
@Bubzp11 I understand, and I would usually agree that the youngsters need to pay their dues and learn from elders but if it's McDavid and he is the franchise then he automatically goes to the front of the table as far as I'm concerned. He is given the best seat in the house immediately. Almost all real Canadian boys are respectful and humble, so they would show respect back anyway. You can see how humble Bedard is and all those guys. They don't need a brow beating or any other kind of humbling. But thank you for all of this. It is humbling to me to chat with a real NHL player, and they provide me their thoughts on my ideas.
In NHL 99% of guys listen to team music. Certain teams don’t allow u with headphones some do. Sometimes music rotates guys depends on winning and losing. Most guys don’t wanna do it cause everyone always complains about the music being shit 😂😂
Why vets sit at the back, total honest, I know from experience. Rookies come and go, up and down to the minors and back, healthy scratch etc. Middle, likely sticking around, typically 3rd 4th line players. More expendible. Front. Most expendible. At the back. I gotta be honest. I was a top 3 forward, so lucky to be in back. It is arrogance over time put in and that is where you here endless BS gossiping, making fun of the front, popular kiss arse to stars, tougher guys get the back, eager to crack very disrespectful jokes and this is at teamnates, and, trashing coaches, ice time, you name it, so management at front, arrogant pricks at back, neither hear what shouldn't be heard. Expendibles won't snitch on vets, top liners, on management, because their goal is to stick on the team, at all costs. Like jail. Don't snitch. It honestly sucked listening to what I thought were good people, entering league in, good people turn arrogant pricks, when alot of players, gaining xp, new, are generally awesome persons. I didn't want to hear it at the back. I hated it. I hated it, because it was BS and when mid expendibles tell others the BS heard, you are now guilty by association, even if you steered clear of the arrogant BS talk. It is not everyone. It is absolutely consistent. It is like school. Exactly. The kids that think they are cool, sit at the back, to crack jokes at the teacher and "nerds" at the front. Same set up. Management is the teacher and if you get sick of listening to that crap at the back, because you now just bought yourself at ticket to the front. No BS truth. What it sadly is. PS: new stars, even rookies, franchise players, free ride to back of the bus. Going nowhere. They are instant "cool kids". I just experienced this over and over and it is fact. The back, not all, is the yearly verbal hazers, after more polite, entry hazing. Ashamed to be back there honestly and listen to just stupid talk.
When I played soccer in Texas, we didn't step on our logo. That's who we are and our team. You gotta check a younger guy sometimes cause it's not really known
number 3 reminds me of the typical way freshmen get treated on some high school teams. makes sense, but really seems to be a team to team thing and pros def seem to retain a lot of the jock culture i personally disliked from american football or older AAA. though the parts of leaving the vehicle from back first are def the most odd part of it. things are really different at pro level vs just trying to keep a team together frfr
