Probably a hot take, but I think it would be really cool if you manual swapped the truck with an SM465. Not trying to change your mind on more power but maybe a milder built LS (400 HP/TQ) with the SM465 behind it could be an idea. A milder built LS would likely live longer in the truck. The SM is plenty beefy and cheap to maintain and can be adapted to the LS platform. Won't be good for the highway but neither is 37 inch tires. It has a crawling gear that could be useful for you in off-road situations and the power draw from the SM would be less than the 4L80. Last point is that the SM is not electronically controlled so you won't need to add any extra wiring or modules for it, not to mention no trans cooler required. Possibly just a custom length driveshaft, reverse and speed sensor wiring and that's all you'd need. Love your build so far. I've watched all your videos on it and love seeing how overkill you go with your components. Super tasteful and quality work especially with your suspension setup.
This swap makes practical and financial sense even if it upsets the diesel diehards. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Very cool build I am turning my 1971 GMC Longhorn into an overlander as well. I am actually looking to run a diesel turbo 6.2 in mine, early NV4500/NP205, and squarebody dual tanks. Going with the mechanical diesel due to free access to WMO diesel. I have 1 ton K30 Dana 60 front and a 14 bolt in my truck as well.
