Very sorry to hear about your dad. Losing your dad is definitely tough. One thing I always think about when at the theme parks is my dad. We used to go all the time together, so it's almost like a little piece of him is there with me whenever we go back.

We were a family of 4 adults and we did both lightning lanes and genie + on Saturday at DL. It was the best trip ever. My mom turned 73 and she loved not waiting in those long lines. Worth the price for us.
@@SnowFamilyVacations There is no more virtual lines anymore form Rise. If you want to pay $20 to skip the line for rise you pay for it any time of the day and skip the line. It's like a paid max pass or fast pass.
Just met Chris today in the Grand California hotel thanks to my wife. Made my whole day. Such a nice person and character just like on the videos. Can't wait until the video he told me about. A pleasure to shake his hand and have my picture with him. You rock Chris.
We did Genie + Christmas Eve 2021 with a group of 8 at Disneyland. It was packed with people. We were at the park right at opening time. We were able to get in 6 rides and lunch before 11:30AM, including Rise of the Resistance. By 3:30 we were on ride #12 (Millenium Falcon, Star Wars Rise, Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Davey Crockett Canoes, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Matterhorn, Monorail, Autopia... in that order). I was hesitant at the onset of the day if it would be worth the added cost for the Lightning Lane. Genie + is totally worth it. We will easily get in 18 rides before the park closes. The longest wait was 20 minutes at Indiana Jones because it broke and needed a quick fix.
We are currently at the parks for this holiday's same as two year party of four, 10 day's from 24th December's to 31st... two years ago with fast pass we were able to ride almost all of the rides, now with genie plus wich i aquire for all four all day's we were able to ride 2, perhaps 3 attraction depending on the park, i book really fast and lighting lane was sold out early on the day, we hate it, won't travel again soon... we had more fun at Universal and we were able to ride hagrids at least 4 times on 3 days of parks at Universal. Bring fast pass back stop the unnecessary charges

Just a few days after deciding to go my wife of 22 years passed away unexpectedly. We would talk about what we wanted to see and do there. Now I don't know if I will ever be able to go without her. I didn’t see this mentioned in the video, but genie+ also includes the photos from the pro photographers. If you see a photographer walking around or at the designated photo locations ask them to take your photo.
You could do more with the old system that was either free with fast pass or less expensive with Maxpass. Lighting allows only 1 use per ride. Ridiculous. It’s more $ for less than the old system. I don’t know why people are happy with it. Other than the pandemic has made us all blind to getting less for more.

Also, if you have a lighting lane pass for a particular ride, and the ride breaks down during your window; you're able to redeem that pass for any attraction that accepts lighting lane pass.
What seemed to work really well for me was once I scanned my lightning lane at the ride I was going on, I booked another lightning lane right away. Loved using the genie +
You should also keep track of how much line you get to skip if you use a pass. Like for Indy, you only skip the outside part, so if the wait time says 30-40, probably don't get it. You may not skip anything on that ride when you could've used it on a different ride. I feel like it takes a lot of knowledge and work to get your money's worth!

I see this being very beneficial for park hopper passes. Do all of the rides in disney before 1 pm and then use up all of your lightening lane passes in DCA for the other half of the day.
The Indian Jone's poll TERRIFIED me as a child. Those spikes BARELY move but kid me was TERRIFIED they were coming down on me. My mom would ALWAYS pull it, but nice enough to wait till I ran out of the room before pulling. Love to see it's still there!
YES! I would purchase Genie Plus! I want to get on as many of my favorite rides as I can! Then I can stroll through the park for the rest of the day, eat, and enjoy standing in lines. ❤️❤️❤️
I think the point you made about coming every 4 years is important. I travel from Canada and can only make it every few years. I could see how getting this one or two days to bang out some rides would be super valuable!
Genie+ is very exciting!! I live in Australia and I've only made it to Disneyland once in 35yrs, I was there 4 days and still couldn't get everything done. It's nice to know there's a way to get more done as not a regular disney goer. Thanks for your videos Amanda and Chris. You make me feel close to disney when I can't get there for real.
Just got back from Disneyland and California Adventures and I really wished I had seen this video ahead of time!! Anyone that’s like me that never goes to Disneyland and just shows up winging it is gonna have a hard time navigating thru the whole Disneyland eco system if you are not properly informed. It was a headache but I had a blast none the less.
We just got home from a great trip to Disney. This video was sooooo helpful. We went on all the rides on our list and had a great time. Knowing how the app works made the trip a success.
Love Miles at the end. He would be a cute kids perspective video once a month. My niece is about his age and she would love to follow him around. Give him big words to try to say and watch him point out stuff kids shouldn't miss out on.
Thanks for this video. As my Mom's caregiver, this is something I would pass on for now but may consider somewhere in the future. After all of the years spent on needing to get on all of the rides during each visit to the parks, I don't find Genie+ a necessity to buy on each visit. For example, I may want to spend my time going through all of the shops in the parks and maybe take in a ride or two. My younger brother did that to try out the annual pass he got quite a few years ago, before DCA was built, and found that it took him several hours to get through all of the shops and check out what each one offered. I agree with you that a special occasion or out of town visitors would be a good time to consider paying for the service.
Superb and thorough overview Chris!! I loved my use of Genie + yesterday. I did 36 rides in Disneyland!! One thing I love is most of the day and by far most of the rides have a return time of just 5-10 minutes. So much better than fastpass /max pass where return times were usually 1hr and often up to 2,3 or even 6 hrs later! As such, I rode rides in the morning standby cuz short lines anyway, then could hit them up again with genie when it got busier later. Yes, thirty six rides. PS: idea for a new video: Top fifty worst Provost Park Pass jokes!! (Only issue is keeping the number down to 50!😂😂).

It's the amount of time until your barcode is valid to use during the given time (example: you book a ride at 9:00 am to go on the ride between 9:15-10:15 am. Your "return time" would be 9:15am, when the lightning line is available to you).

Ex-AP holder and went Saturday on a single day ticket. I was a little worried about not having Genie plus but I refuse to pay for it. Got on everything I wanted just fine with out. Noticed lots of people fighting with the app/standing around looking at their phones. I just kept my party moving. If you know how to navigate E ticket rides around parades and fireworks then do not waste your money.
I LOVED this video. So informative, dad jokes on point, learned of a booby trap on Indy I never new, and it even felt like a personal race through the park with you. So much fun and I learned a lot. I can’t wait for my next trip.
Chris, my wife and I loved running into you and chatting with you on Saturday. Amber loved the video we made for her! My wife and I found Disney Plus to be worth it. It was darn near walk-on for most attractions. I hate giving in and giving Disney even more $$, however it did make for a better experience. I would totally buy the Genie +. We haven't been to Disneyland since 2003 and whenever we do get to go someday in the future, we're going to make sure to get the most out of our time.

If you have a season pass it's worth it but if not your spending to much for one day each person along with paying for the park I would just stand in line and wait

Enjoyed your youtube video. Party of 8, 3 generations we have been coming for 49 years. We bought Genie +and even though we were ale to get on 3 rides quickly felt like we were on the phone all day trying to get those rides. Sometimes the site was glitching and inaccessible. The stand by lines for almost everything were very long. We were only able to get on 3 rides, some of our party stayed later and were able to do 2 more, it was the most disappointing visit to the Magic Kingdom with the cost of tickets add Genie plus this will impact our future decisions.

Thanks for clarifying! A lot of the other info out there is confusing and/or contradicting. The main point being the Genie+ is a "Pay-once-per-day" service and can be used on select rides all day. Where as Lightning Lane rides are "single-use, pay-per-ride" for select rides, once you use it, it's done and gone.

What I noticed on my last visit that the ride of the resistance shuts down for around a half hour. My girl friend and I heard the lightning and that’s when they reopened it. We were able to get towards the front of the line and save $20! We would go on the less popular rides while waiting for the lightning lane reservation. You’re spot on with the review! I’m going again in April.

Did you have to get there super early to book the Rise one?

Ex-AP holder and went Saturday on a single day ticket. I was a little worried about not having Genie plus but I refuse to pay for it. Got on everything I wanted just fine with out. Noticed lots of people fighting with the app/standing around looking at their phones. I just kept my party moving. If you know how to navigate E ticket rides around parades and fireworks then do not waste your money.

Chris, my wife and I loved running into you and chatting with you on Saturday. Amber loved the video we made for her! My wife and I found Disney Plus to be worth it. It was darn near walk-on for most attractions. I hate giving in and giving Disney even more $$, however it did make for a better experience. I would totally buy the Genie +. We haven't been to Disneyland since 2003 and whenever we do get to go someday in the future, we're going to make sure to get the most out of our time.

If you have a season pass it's worth it but if not your spending to much for one day each person along with paying for the park I would just stand in line and wait

I just use my Disability pass with autism and seizures. I normally go on 17-27 rides each visit in only 10 hours. It’s free I love being disabled!

Enjoyed your youtube video. Party of 8, 3 generations we have been coming for 49 years. We bought Genie +and even though we were ale to get on 3 rides quickly felt like we were on the phone all day trying to get those rides. Sometimes the site was glitching and inaccessible. The stand by lines for almost everything were very long. We were only able to get on 3 rides, some of our party stayed later and were able to do 2 more, it was the most disappointing visit to the Magic Kingdom with the cost of tickets add Genie plus this will impact our future decisions.
Your explanation makes way more sense than the way Disney explained it haha

Thanks for clarifying! A lot of the other info out there is confusing and/or contradicting. The main point being the Genie+ is a "Pay-once-per-day" service and can be used on select rides all day. Where as Lightning Lane rides are "single-use, pay-per-ride" for select rides, once you use it, it's done and gone.

What I noticed on my last visit that the ride of the resistance shuts down for around a half hour. My girl friend and I heard the lightning and that’s when they reopened it. We were able to get towards the front of the line and save $20! We would go on the less popular rides while waiting for the lightning lane reservation. You’re spot on with the review! I’m going again in April.

We just got home Disneyland and California Adventures. This video was immensely helpful to my family when we were deciding how to get the most out of the genie plus. I even got the Monsters, Inc. Sully shoes for the trip and you certainly do know what shoes are best for lots of walking. I was looking for you and hoping to see you and Amanda and Miles.
