He's everything you hope for in a QB straight out of the 2023 Draft, but those were not laser throws. If a receiver has to adjust or the QB misses (which happens several times in this video) he's not ready to be QB1 yet. But he's developing and he is already an amazing QB2 for sure!
So, if he's inaccurate during the course of a game, he's not ready to be QB1? You said that but you couldn't have meant that.

O'Connell is performing just as good if not better than all the first round QB's. Raiders potentially got themselves a STEAL.
I would argue MUCH BETTER than his peers. Even those who’ve been drafted over the last few years lol (in their preseason games).

I’m in line with the Tony Dungy mindset of throwing rookie QBs to the wolves. If, or more like, when JG goes down, get AOC in there ASAP to get those mistakes corrected sooner than later. Great breakdown, sir! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

He's very experienced and has seen a lot of defenses and situations in front of him in his college years
ODonnel was the best QB in the B1G last year. Better than Stroud. The reason he's doing better than Stroud is, Stroud always had 3 elite WRs. ODonnel had average talent, an average OL, and yet he was a play maker. So now that he has NFL talent around him, he looks amazing. Stroud is struggling without Marvin Harrison to bail him out.
Baby brady gives us hope
On those 2 missed big plays the good thing is that he is making the right reads at least. As long as he adjusts to the pro level, we can expect him to make less miatakes like that. We can see he's got the arm and mechanics to make those plays
I agree, he’s reminding me of Carr out of college. Lighting it up in the pre season.
@@stevearnold8265difference is AOC is showing much better fundamentals than Carr at this point or even later in Carr's career. Carr relies on superior arm talent too much and hasn't progressed in throwing from planted feet or remaining poised in a collapsing pocket.

You had 9 years to build a defense around Carr and couldn't do that along with getting a coach that wasn't a idiot.

I didn't watch Aiden in college, but I could not be happier with our choice to pick him up in the 4th. Really hoping for the Maxx Crosby/Tom Brady effect where they were drafted late and come out with that chip like "Okay, lemme show you how valuable I Really am" Not a Karen Brady fan At All, he's just a solid example of a late round pickup that did big things. Absolutely incredible breakdown! I think this kid could be special, but I hope our fan base doesn't get crazy thinking he needs to play this year. A question for you: Regarding Zip/Power/ Depth of throws, will this improve with him having a full on NFL caliber, upper body/core workout regimen?
He already has enough IMO but yes over time he can add some more. Look at Brady from the early 2000's and when he was at his peek.

His throw angle is a little too vertical (IMO)... maybe if he brings that down 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock he can sling it further
I saw an interview with Aiden O Connell after the game and he too feels the same way about those missed throws you pointed out in this video and I think that’s great for him to recognize that he can get better at what he’s doing instead of just accepting it for what it is and using the term rookie to brush it off, and he seems to be a man of high character as well with a good head on his shoulders. This is a great video, I been a Raider fan since the Los Angeles days and It’s been tough to say the least to be a Raider fan for a while now but I do believe in time Aiden Is gonna be Excellent for the Raiders.
He'd be so much better if he was throwing to first string recievers like devante adams and Renfroe instead of 2nd/3rd stringers who dropped like 4 catchable balls.

Purdue fan here- I knew AOC is the best QB in the draft. Incredible accuracy. Great maturity (he's 26 and married). All he has to do is cut down on his penchant for boneheaded INT's at the worst possible time.

He was really good his senior year when his childhood friend WR transferred from Syracuse to Purdue. Kid can definitely sling it and seems like a natural QB to me. I think he'll have a pretty long career even if he's never a long-term starter.

Bottom line is dudes confidence and ability to rip it is refreshing Carr while he was my guy after the injury held on to the ball and often times floated the ball! This kid takes his 3 steps and rips it! #BALLS
fantastic Breakdown as usual. So many details that go unnoticed. I would love to see your take on the super trooper's Throwing mechanics. I watch his subtle movement in the pocket, Footwork, Hip Torque and throwing motion and it seems similar to Brady. He is just so accurate with his ball placement. I would love to see a breakdown of both throwing motions cuz man I feel like I'm the only one seeing it

Once i saw his film in college on draft day i had a feeling it was a steal. Watched his college film and his numbers spoke for themself. what he was able to do with the supporting cast he had at Purdue vs big 10 competition. I think these QB’s for these types of schools that go against great comp don’t get enough recognition. I don’t think it takes near the talent to play qb at Alabama Clemson etc. when every receiver and lineman on your team is pro bowler in NFL. I see it as what can you do with less and still succeed against teams that are way better then your own. Still real early and its preseason. The only thing I’m really surprised about is how fast he’s picked it up. The talent is there for sure. Thank you for these vids. Love me some film breakdown. Miss studying the game.

Tired of all the sports writers and "experts" still talking about how the Raiders may lose enough games to get a QB in a high draft pick next year. We have our QB right here. Aiden O'Connell > Bryce Young.
Raiders need depth on the OL more than anything. That and a DT, then CB is where I would draft.
Those deep misses will be worked on. This Kid has insane potential!

Even I can see that on the very first play that the WR is WAO; wide-ass open! TB-12, AR-12 and any HOF QB places the ball in the guys hands. Now I can easily throw the FB 20 yards, so throwing the ball 40-70 yards onto another guys is entertainment. He looks like a very gifted athlete! Thanks

Agree it's surprising how good he looks this early, but he didn't exactly come out of nowhere.
At Purdue for 6 years, lead them to their first Big Ten Championship appearance and was a 4th round pick.
Surprised JT never got film on him before the draft.
I hope he continues to improve and gets different looks. Seems as though at worst he is a good backup.

AiCON is not the finished article yet; but he certainly looks like a steady pair of hands in the same way as Jim Plunkett was. Speaking of Maher not blocking effectively, I suspect that this is a lack of true game sharpness; he'll come good the more reps he gets.

All the things we wished Carr would do this kid is showing....quiet feet, ability to move in the pocket to buy time, going through reads quicky, and then making decisive throws with anticipation...only thing lacking is the big arm but that's one thing he can actually work on. Excited to see where this kid can go!
If you do a week three or on the next AO video can you comment on him putting so much body into his throw
I know in darts moving your head like that that makes the throw different kinda like closing your eyes and using the force like Skywalker

Saw him play in the shoe last year. Without him Purdue wouldn’t have put any points up. I think he’ll be good in the nfl

On one hand, I lost faith in JMD & Ziegler after the embarrassing loss to the Colts last year. I predicted that they would replace Carr with Jimmy, and they did exactly that. A flaccid, uninspiring move. I have predicted them to go 4-13 for months now.
On the other hand, Aidan O'Connell is the best passer on our team and I remember that the Raiders last rookie QB wearing #4 stole the job from an established veteran. He gives me hope.
Here's hoping that Raiders history repeats itself and AOC wins the job!

The Raiders have had so many bad picks in the pass. It was only time that someone like this landed in their lap.
At 5:00 into the video, we see another example of a trend to play quarters to the boundary, weak side and half field coverage to the field passing strength side.
