I live on a farm. The farm that was next door was slowly turned into a small mc mansion neighborhood. The man who bought next to my back pasture called me over one day and informed me my grass in the pasture was getting too tall and to keep up with the new hoa rules about grass height. I told him I wasn't part of hoa but usually kept it shorter I was fixing my mower blades that week. He got an attitude about his view and weeds and stormed away. The grass got four feet tall that year, I didn't cut it until October. I never heard from him again.

From all of these stories, I've figured out why I will never live in a HOA. These people buy a house and then live under a microscope the rest of their time living there. Just having people watch you all the time like that is enough to make me never want to live in one.

A house in an HOA neighborhood that is exempt from the HOA is worth more than the neighboring houses. So while being part of an HOA doesn't exactly lower a house's value, not being part of one can raise it.

I don't live in a HOA but a friend of mine lives across from one. The board members often send my friend letters asking them to conform to the HOA standards: Certain house colors, grass trimmed, no lawn decorations, etc. My friend spends the next two years making their lawn look like a crazy hoarder of lawn gnomes, flamingos, Halloween and Xmas decor including neon pink LED blinking lights run by solar battery. My cousin bought a house in a HOA full of old retirees who had nothing better to do than to torment people for not following their rules. Over the years, more of the elderly people sold their houses to younger people, so my cousin made friends with some of these new neighbors and they all ran for seats on the HOA. Enough of them got on to amend the HOA bylaws and stop terrorizing people. The old HOA president cursed them out for "ruining the neighborhood" and moved.

Although I live in a neighborhood with an HOA, we haven't had any run-ins with them over the past 20+ years. That being said, I remember reading a story where a mother asked permission of her HOA to have a fence installed around her house to prevent her autistic son from wandering off, and when they didn't reply, she went ahead and had the fence put up. It was only until after the fence was installed that this woman received a fine from her HOA and a letter demanding she have it taken down.

When we left, our HOA was trying to sue a neighbor who wasn't even part of the HOA because his house overlooked the neighborhood and he had put in some really big, nice solar panels, and the HOA said they were making the town look ugly. At 11:55 I want to give a PSA. Senior only living is usually like that by law for a reason. The housing was probably built on land that is unsafe (i.e.toxic) for growing children.
Source: sister is a City Planner and my husband works for a building company that builds senior living homes. This is why if you research the land that the senior homes are built, often times they were things that were too costly to do the environmental clean-up. Think Air Force Base, former land fill, battery manufacturer, etc.

7:44 - Wait. So I'm not the only person who does this? At the same age? Like, parents tried to kick me out and ban from the playground, failed. Their main problems/worries:
*Since you are so often on the playground, who is destroying the toys?*
Not me, I suspect certain group of indiviuals, they are almost always destroyed overnight. And it's not like they will destroy them in front of me.
*You are swinging too high! You will fall!*
Lady. I have my ways to swing high *and* stay more easily on the swing.
    *You will hurt my baby!*
If you are a responsible parent, you should at the very least warn your kid not to run under the swing. Also, you should pay attention to your kid instead of a phone or talking to other parents. That playground isn't that big and you can always see your kid.
*The swing won't make it, you already destroyed two!*
No. The first one wasn't my fault. Nobody took care of the swing for 15 years. You cannot be surprised that it broke under someone. And it didn't even break under me. You just want someone to blame it on. The second one was partially my fault by doing such a thing as swinging on it. It's not my fault that "Pat and Mat" (reference to Czech stop motion series where two neighbours Pat a Mat try to do something and find the worst and most destructive way to do it, ending up doing more harm than good, you can find those on Yt too, there is no dialogue) didn't secure it properly.

Our HOA had serious issues with our flagpole for whatever reason. We put up a flag for our college football team on a big game day. It was there for ONE DAY. We promptly receive a letter informing us that only the American Flag or the Texas Flag (we live in Texas) may be displayed. We were annoyed, but we only displayed our American flag from then on. No issues right? Wrong. Roughly a month later, we were told that we could no longer fly ANY flags from that flagpole at all, because we were not allowed to have a flagpole mounted from a tree. It was mounted from a tree in our front yard, and at night was illuminated by a light that we staked in the ground. It looked quite nice, but according to the HOA, it would have looked better mounted from our house or in the ground.

I wouldn't live under an HOA even if I was PAID to live there. A man's home is supposed to be his castle!

My HOA has contacted me ONCE in the year I've lived here (that I know of). It was literally to give us our yearly beach pass to put in our car for if we wanted to take our car to the beach with us. We've only ever walked to the beach.
After that the beach maintenance guy asked if he could move my flip flops so he wouldn't run them over with the lawn mower.
Also my trash cans have been by the curb for maybe like 2 months now.

I genuinely want to know the purpose of a HOA if all each one does is get in a tizzy over things that don't actually matter in the first place?

    • @professorroundbottom438
      @professorroundbottom438 2 ปีที่แล้ว

They're supposed to keep property values high by requiring that general maintenance be done on homes and landscaping and issuing fines as a deterrent to leaving it undone. The tizzies happen when the HOA board members get power-drunk and start bullying people. It's the human power element that mucks it up every time. The theory is rooted in exclusivity and elitism so it never takes long for the praxis to turn tyrannical.

Y'all got cool stories about HOAs. Mine is pretty nice and tame, the only time they asked for money is when we needed our dirt road fixed of all the holes caused by rain and snow, which was pretty resonable. Because it was the only road leading up to all of our houses and it wouldn't hurt to pay a few 100s between 8 people to have a nice smooth path home

True story: I specifically told our real estate agent, absolutely do not show me any homes in a HOA! Found a house, the other realtor’s paperwork had everything we were looking for, so we asked if it was in an HOA, told it wasn’t, the Realtor paperwork description of the house stated it wasn’t, so we paid for the inspection. Day of the inspection comes, $500 inspection, we find out that it is in a HOA! 🤬🤬🤬

I think it’s bullshit for any adult to try and have a 13 year old leave a playground, bitch I’m 20 and swingsets still make me happy. As long as you’re not hurting or threatening anyone I think it’s okay to be on a playground, especially if it’s empty most of the time. Live a little happier and enjoy the small things

Its my land and my home, you don't have any say in that.
If you dislike some trees or shrubs, I might remove them if you ask nicely.
If you don't like something about my house you can lie down and cry on the ground about it.
    Screw HOA stuff.

I heard a HOA story that they stole a families house and rented the fully lived in house kids toys still there all the family's furniture all their family photos and belongings they just change the locks and rented out their house to someone else and let other people live in their house for over some reason some kind of fine total b******* this is why I would lose my mind I would break back into my house at that point I will never be in a HOA for that reason it made the news
