Baby Bulletin: Meet Gus the Gerenuk!

Introducing Gus, the newest addition to our Southern gerenuk herd! This six-and-a-half-pound male calf was born on July 12 to parents Soomi and Draco, which is a huge success for their near-threatened species. According to keepers, this little gerenuk is extremely energetic and is quite the momma’s boy! Gus recently received access to his outside habitat, so guests may be able to see him exploring the yard with mom and dad or napping in his favorite pumpkin patch hiding spot. Baby gerenuks are excellent at hiding, so it may take some time and patience to see him. Meet Gus the gerenuk in our latest Baby Bulletin, presented by SCL Health, now Intermountain Healthcare.

They are native to Somalia.
We have tens of thousands of Gerenuk here in Somalia.
They're beautiful docile animals.
