Hi, nice job!
I just would like to sugest you 2 tips to make a much more pure gas and without any odor. Make the gás pass through a bubbler to remove CO2 and water steam and make it also pass through a PVC tube filled with stell wool to remove the hydrogen sulfide gás which is toxic and smells like rotten eggs. The flame will be much more blueish and produtive. Sorry about my english...I'm from Brazil, See you.
lemont2005 what about H2S ,pls how can u remove it
What's is a bubbler.
Couldn't you use a propane burner for the gas? The gas just flowing freely from the hose and burning like that seems a little crazy. Some sort of burner head seems to be in order. I didn't see one in your setup.
Could this be connected to a septic system? If not why not? Regards from Wales UK.
bravo. Mad max isn't so mad....barter town. thunderdome....get a flash/flame arrestor if you don't have one already....some guy made one with a pipe and steelwool inside.
what happens with the slurry when your done can you feed it to the worms? does it smell?
Hey, Warren, Can you please repay us the USd500 we lent yu? You are not respoding to emails, and we really need the money. it has been three years, and we really believed in your usiness and your ideas. It is pretty shitty to leave us hanging. maybe sell your Harley Davidson and pay us back, or send us a kit so we have at least something. But we would prefer the money.
If you are interested in purchasing a portable heavy-duty poly home biogas digester when available Spring 2014, please follow the link in the description above to get on our customer list or visit our Hestia Home Biogas website.
thank u and am thinking going this way in africa
Hello Warren, does this/could this integrate household toilet waste? With the run off plumbed back into the standard household sewage system perhaps?
How long does it take for the waste to break down so you can use the gas, water for shower, etc? Can it be used to hook up to your house for gas stove, and heat water for shower? Will the energy run the inside lights, forced air, etc? How much energy can you use, what will it run?
Thanks for the video please make a video of how to construct the degister
You need a safety valve that if pressure gets to high it will fat and let some out so it dont explode
I love that looks like is better option to use our compost
This for a DIY project in Anchorage, Alaska.
Probably need a heating enclosure to make this process happening at 20d F.
Questions:
Can the produced biogas be used in standard household appliances such as boilers, water heaters and cooking stoves?
If not can the produced biogas be mixed with the natural gas coming into the homes at 0.25 PSI?
Clive, the digester in this video had been operating continuously for over 4 years, now. Biogas has a very narrow flammability window compared to LPG.
+Warren Weisman do u think a hydrogen sulfide scrubber would improve the quality of the gas ?
niceslug We have tested the gas from our food waste digesters, they only have 2 ppm of H2S, which is less than pipeline quality gas. A filter would not do anything.
How do you make these things somewhat explosion and kid proof. One guy bubbled his gas through water and steel wool pads to strip the methane of sulfides and carbon monoxoide?
Wow it looks very do-able in peoples' backyards. Is there a one-way flap door blocking the compost inlet from leaking gas? How did you deal with the building code for accommodating this setup in Eugene? It's so beautiful.
The biogas slurry is not like compost. It has retained all of the N and converted it into NH3, so it needs to be kept covered at all times and applied subsurface to plants to retain the nitrogen. Properly digested the slurry has a slight "earthy" smell and neutral pH. If it has an unpleasant odor, it has not digested completely.
Beardy, we build these in Oregon, USA you can order the plans and step-by-step instructions from our website for $89 for a DIY project or for your contractor and we will provide any technical support you need for the building project and to get your digester up and running and producing maximum biogas.
excellent I don't have any safety a blow off valve will be excellent in case of an accident flashback protection would have been good too great video educating to have bad experience number one rule when you building safety come first you ever heard about Murphy law what can go wrong will go wrong
Why did you pierce the membrane if you had placed the gas take off at an inch/25mm above the slurry level and run it out the bottom of your digester you would be able to draw the gas off without compromising the integrity of the bladder.
Nice job Warren! We admire your work, and look forward to sharing ever more in future. I leave for Nepal today to assess how we can build simple biogas systems up in the remote villages in the frigid Himalayas. Would love to know more about the material you are using for gas storage and from where you obtained it. We purchased some PVC pond liner but what you have seems more flexible and better for the job.
Excellent seeing home riggs being developed finally. Thanks for sharing. Will keep looking in on your developments and see what you have for us to eventually buy for home.
Is there any future plans on creating a larger permanent unit? Possibly for off grid use for small farms. I would also like to speak to you about distribution in Minnesota.
Sure, Rob. Email me at w.weisman@hestiahomebiogas.com
Dear Rob, there are lots of producers of big scale biogas plants like Envitec Biogas and others (Envitec ultimated 2 500 kw biogas plants in NY state. federico
Hi Rob, we design, engineer and optimize anaerobic digestion plants. I also work in the laboratory were we monitor many aspects of the process to maximize gas output. Biotech energy services ltd.
Very nice, simple, close-up photography. Thanks for the explanations. Easy to comprehend.
The slurry level can move up and down several inches and could block your outlet. Furthermore, water accumulates periodically in the clear part of the tube and needs to be poured back into the digester. The membrane is only about $35 and can be removed and replaced in about 10 minutes.
Mhauke, for home use we recommend Honda EU1000i. You can get the kit to convert them from US Carburetor. You will have to drill out the float bowl, as the adapter will not fit inside the "suitcase" type generators. If you run out of biogas you can just connect an LPG bottle to it.
Mhauke, for cold climate you would want a hoop house over it and a thermal blanket to help the insulation. Try to use warm or hot water to rinse your buckets out and you can also circulate hot water through the PEX tubing inside to prevent a hard freeze. The process will slow as it gets colder, but won't stop completely.
The gas will come out at 0.25 psi anyway. We recommend keeping biogas and NG plumbing separate, so NG cannot get in your digester.
Thanks, Innoventor, you'll be fine in Nepal. This one runs very well at very low temps, even less than 50 F sometimes. I think if you just have some kind of hoop house or greenhouse and pipe some waste heat from something through it you'll be fine.
Masqueepo, this digester produces 2 cu.m. of biogas per day, about 70 cu.ft. So, enough to cook 3 meals per day for 10 people or run a 1 kW generator for 3 hours. It is fed with about 12-15 lbs. per day of organic waste.
Have you been able to gauge or guess at how much gas that produces?I'm guessing it depends on how much your putting in to the system?
so you never need to empty it out if your not overloading the system or under loading it.. u just keep that balance going?
If you use the reply link next to a comment (rather than the new comment box), your reply will post next to the original comment. (And thanks for the video.)
It does not need to be emptied out. Just remove a couple buckets of slurry when the water level gets high.
I guess it's easier to lose a couple of fingers or blow away a house that's way more fun carry on for a rating
The top is a UV resistant 40-mil pond liner material. The sun would not have any effect on it.
Excellent setup.
Would you give us a diagram of how the digester and gas holder is formed?
Also,
What type of biogas generator do you recommend for making electricity?
i will be please if this project details will be sent to me
Website doesn't work is it down right now?
Bobbysssaaa, rain does not affect the process.
how resilient is the top against the sun?
What if someone pricks the top portion with any sharp object? Is there a way to repair?
Hi, Koushik, thanks for the interest. The tops are 40 mil EPDM and can be repaired with a bicycle inner tube patch kit. To replace the entire top costs only $40 and can be done in less than 1-hour.
I was thinking a hard shell cover would make it more kid proof.
how much did it cost in total?
good
а зимы у вас нет?
