How to replace the brake light bulbs on a Toyota Avensis Estate Car.
There are some slightly difficult clips, use a torch or flashlight to see the bulb holder.

Very difficult to change these bulbs. I came up with a idea after trying for a long time. I cut the plastic lid from a silicone spray bottle into the right size to hold the clip springs 'in' on the lower pair so I could then use my hands on the upper pair of springs and pull the bulb holder out. Hope that helps someone out there.

I used a knife and cut out a bit of the inner lining/wall that was blocking access to the light. Just a small piece that I cut which was not visible once you put the lid back on.
A lot easier to access and work with now.

I ended up cutting the Panel behind the bulb cluster to gain access to the bulb holder . Used a scalpel to give a neat cut so as to be able to refit the panel without the cut being too obvious. So much easier. It's a pity the clown that designed this didn't think it through or try to fit a bulb himself.

I bet you that same clown designed the places for the fuses and relays. I changed the blinkers relay it was like heart surgery practically.

Whoever designed this deserves a special place in hell. Thanks for the vid though.

How do you remove the whole tail light assembly? How many bolts/nuts are used for mounting? Namely, I guess you better remove the whole light to get access to the bulbs. Access from the trunk is practically impossible.

No, it doesn't work like that. In the video, the (black) part that holds the bulbs was already removed, but the removal was not shown. There's a reason for that: The named part is almost impossible to remove. There's no visibility, and your hand barely fits in the "maintenance opening" - you're supposed to remove it blindly. The design of the part is terrible. The clips (4 pcs) should be bent to unlock them, but the bending arms are so flexible that they just flex and don't open the clips.
After you've somehow managed to open the clips (most probably by breaking something, I broke 3 clips from one side and 2 from the other), there's nothing you could grip in order to pull the part out. I have no idea, how come the part in the video was unbroken. I think the guy had removed the complete light assembly before removing the part...
Finally, when you pull the part back, there are absolutely no guides but you will have to fight with the part. I consider myself a semi-experienced "car DYI guy" and I've replaced multiple tail bulbs from T25 Estate. Still, it's terrible fighting with it, every time! Horrible engineering by Toyota!

Do you know how to remove the chrome trim under the rear brake light?

I think it is part of the body work.
