One thing that I want to note. In order for the addon folder to be in there you need to run the game at least once! After that first boot, it will generate those missing folders

There may have been an update to either the Blizzard Client or to Steam/Proton after the time of this recording. It seems that during the install you cannot get past the step where you need to update in the installation and it fails.
I'm working to see if there is a fix, and will update either the video, or place a pinned comment when I find the solution.
Thanks for the effort and vid. I was able to install the launcher successfully with Lutris, but it took a few attempts. Installation of any game just hung indefinitely when running the launcher from Steam with latest Proton.
I tried lutris as well but got the same error
@@OhNoItsAlexx I might just say screw it and install Windows, apparently it runs most games with equal or better performance than SteamOS.

@@WhoisMontyBojangles Nah, the launcher would run, but it would just hang when trying to install a game. I ended up just installing Windows and it's worked fine so far.
adding world of Warcraft individually might be worth it. yes typing in creditials suck but worth it in the long run. This is what i use below Gonna be decently long .
I use leftt stick as wasd touch button as right mouse click and right joystick as mouse nothing else bound tp the stick ( allows you and the camera to move like you are playing a game on console). R2 is soft, soft press left click.
If you want be able to move around using ONLY 1 joystick and 1 other button to move 2 options: Option 1 set up the joystick as mouse touch as right click and then any other button as left mouse click. Option 2 is use R2 or L@ and have soft soft press be left and hard press be right click. (I have the 2nd option set up as well but I use double click for the hard press so i dont accidently press both when i only want to left clicking on something
The Left touch pad for menu character and all those in the bottom except honor and ESC (esc is select). Right touch pad for spells 5 though = . Radial menu release on touch and its amazing espacially when you have 4 or 8 options to choose so you can just touch all the directions including diagnals (very nice). onlything i dont like is once you press it you have to target the exact middle before release
ABXY for my first 4 skills i put 2 as A 3 as x, 4y and B1.
R1 and L1 i have set up as jump and tab.
R5 and L5 are scroll mouse up and down for zoom
L4 and R4 1 of them is alt other is discod push to talk
L2 as shift
Start is Enter to start typing in chat. I have macros for /p /raid /g trade chat so incase god forbid i have to use the virtual keyboard to communicate. Dont know if it exists but but a program for the deck that does talk to txt would be amazing. A seperate program running in the background like discord. Or addon for wow. The virtual keyboard hurts and people would love that Honestly worst virtual touch screen keyboard on the planet. Why havnt they fixed this yet
Even though keyboard sucks Touch screen i use for aoe spells, press the button then press the screen where i want it to be cast very useful, do i get every mob in the aoe, no lol but most of them yes

Dpad i have set for like O SHIT buttons or macros like when i need to go invis after agroing something or /cast icy viengs /cast (terinket)/ cast so and so to cast all the things for dps not on GCDs. With modifiers thats potentiablly Alot of extra buttons you could use the number pad 4 8 6 and 2 then use shift or/and alt modifier for potentially a boat load o combonations for the dpad
People probably have better set ups out there but this works for me, easy to use and does not require an addon
TLDR Setting up the steam controller is worth it
I did have a slight issue where when i was trying to move the ConsolePort add-ons into the game there was no folders for interface, but starting up WoW for the first time and exiting again created them.
Gotta tell yah, it was so surreal seeing my panda hunter on a tiny screen for the first time, thank you so much for this guide!

Seeing the control pad layout it's crazy this hasn't been released the series X and PS5, like ESO and FF
Guys remember you will not see the adding folder until you launch WoW. Launching the game will then create the folder. (Launch until the cutscene ends or until you’ve logged in)
Only two things I had a problem with is 1.Take off your authenticator. And 2. Launch WOW to get the add-ons folder to pop up
Just a tip that I figured out, when logging in the first time with bnet from steam. You can sign in using your google account if you have added it to your bnet account. So much easier than constantly messing with the keyboard closing again and again. Hope this helps somebody some time. HAGD
Thank you, this is an amazing tip. Didn't work at first, but then I downloaded chrome and made it default browser and after that I could finally log in to Bnet.

* for anyone maybe having a brain fart like I was, around 4 mins in when he mentions to make sure 'show hidden files' is checked under Dolphin. When you go back into Steam, add game, non steam game, browse..when that window pops up to pick a game - you have to make sure 'Show Hidden Files' is also checked under that dialog box**
Not sure if a newer update changed something to where checking that under Dolphin didn't automatically change it there as well? But that's what I had to do in order to find home/deck, .local, steam, steam apps, etc.

Hi! Thanks for this tutorial I’ve used it a few times and gotta say playing WOW on Steam Deck with Console Port is a dream. Unfortunately wow didn’t launch so I reset steam deck and followed this through again but when ever the box pops up to enter credentials the blizzard icon is already spinning so I can’t log in….. any ideas?

@@tylerdonald6071 Try the 5 preset, not the 7(recommended) it runs at smooth 60 for the most part
Even after a year of steamdeck updates, curseforge updates, wow updates youre precise and easy tutorial still made it relatively easy to do this!
As a note, you have to launch the game first before the interface and addons folders will be created!
A small but significant tip: if you go into gaming mode for login, you do not get this keyboard flickering
I was desperate as I do not have a physical keyboard attached to the Deck, and Desktop mode didn't let me enter anything
So this way had worked for me up until now, I am only getting to the second login spot and it wont actually let me log in after i put in all my information. it just has the loading symbol forever. Not sure if this is because of the new patch and too many people are trying to get into the season of discovery. but if I click on the settings and decide to just continue with out logging in, i just get a blacked out window of the battle net desktop app

I just tried to download Battlenet on 7.0-6 and it crashed my steam deck twice. Did you do anything else aside from the instructions in the video?
Use a new version of Proton or try experimental

Lookin good, tried this like 8 years ago on the nvidia shield handheld though it was streaming off my pc. It was interesting, glad there is more progress in getting to play wow on the go

When I got to the part where the keyboard opens and closes you can open a internet browser. Then go to battle net act like you are going to log in after you type the user copy it and past it and do the same for the password. I’ve never played wow but I am now so thanks for this guide. You’ve gained a new subscriber!
7:40 i have a problem here, basically after I digit my email and password and press enter (I have no log in button in the battle net launcher, just Blizzard loading gif moving) nothing happens

This still works very well ❤ also if you use the left stick to navigate keyboard it works fine and no need for external keyboard/mouse
I found that if I don’t take my fingers off the track pad you can use both track pads to slide your finger and choose the letters/numbers - apparently it’s only when you tap and release the keyboard on the screen that it closes and opens - having constant input makes the keyboard stay open

@@MiguelABG_ Not long maybe under 1hr,I followed a written guide at first but it was missing some things that he explained in the video.I had to start WOW 1st to get some folders to get created.Just send me a message if you would like the written guide as well,I saved them in as Steam Deck folder.
I don’t have an Interface > Addons file location in my WoW classic folder. My process stopped here and couldn’t go further.

I did see other people mention to open the game up at least once to auto populate the folders so I did that as a precaution so not sure if not doing that gives any issues .

Cannot get the keyboard to stay open to enter username and password on the .exe setup. It closes on the first letter and will not allow any entries. ??????

Thank you for the video! Waiting for the game to download now. One tip I found with the keyboard closing is that I used both touchpads to type in the information on the login screen. Left pad goes for left side of keyboard and right goes on right. Do not use touchscreen or else it closes it. Keep it on the toichpads until youre done.

Got it working and it looks great! only issue I had was that I had to log into the game once before the "Addons" folder would show up in my "Interface" folder, and that's not stated here. But I guess if I had a better understanding of how WoW's folders worked anywhere, I would have known that.

I'm on Vanilla Classic doing HC but for some reason when I log in and I should be able to pick the controller format nothing comes up. And basically I can't make any binds or do anything, any ideas how to fix?

The Steam Deck and R.O.G. Ally are literally the perfect portable computers for LAN parties and WoW get-together with the boys every once in a while over beer and pizza. It’s helped make solely online play just a little less the main option for a lot of folks with large towers and monitors, etc.
Cool tutorial, though the steam options are so robust that WOW would likely be playable even without the controller support mod. (though another layer of controller options can't hurt)

You can create a desktop shortcut to the World of Warcraft folder or AddOns folder. First navigate to the folder then click the three lines in the top right corner, in the drop down menu click create new, link to file or directory. Next give it a name and link it to your desktop.

Great video! Question - I followed all your steps, with the entire setup and also the mods. I ran the game in desktop mode and bam all good and I was on the home page for character select. I boot into game mode and click on the game, and nothing happens. I waited for about 20mins or so and it just shows an endless steam logo cycle loading. I abort, change proton and re-open it, same thing no luck again.
Not sure what needs to be done, since it opened in desktop mode without any issues
I also have this issue, but you are the only comment I have noticed that also brought it up. Replying for more visibility.
I switched from Proton 7.0-5 (newest as of 12/8/22) to "Proton Experimental" and I got out of the endless loop. Give that a try.

I added battlenet as a non steam game on my actual computer, now when steams open on my pc a thing for battlenet pops up on the steamdeck while in game mode and i can stream it. Way more easy to manage addons and the battery lasts way longer on the deck when streaming. Lifes been great ever since i figured that out. And retail runs amazingly after the dragonflight prepatch. I noticed consoleport had the option to choose steamdeck when streaming it, that option was not there for me when i was running the game directly on the steamdeck
This introduces input lag. I just cannot play with the delay, regardless of how acceptable others find it.
@Ale V There's no lag on mine as long as I stay semi close to my pc, but i have an ethernet cable plugged into my pc. There's also a wifi 6 router along with the pc in my room. If i go to the top floor of my house while it's streaming WoW, it gets pretty blurry and laggy
The strange keyboard thing happens to me when trying to install things under Proton, if I install them via Windows it's fine. If you do dual boot with BTRFS you can install everything in Windows and then add it on Steam after to play it in both the Windows and the Steam OS and kinda helps with some of those setup steps.
The one thing you can try to do to help fight the keyboard issue though is copy/paste your username, probably wont work with password on most applications but usually the username is not blocked from paste actions.
The next hint I would give is finding the folders you need, timestamps can be a good indicator, but if you know a specific file or folder you are looking for, just searching the directory for it is a fast and easy way to find the entire folder path, especially for people who are not computer savvy.
Your guide is amazing, I was able to learn how to setup essentially any Windows program via the non steam game option. Well done!!

Start wow up to character selection screen. Close it out and then go back and it should instantly appear

Oy m8 I figured it out, bring the zip file into the addons then take the 6 individual files out of it
How do I choose the installation location as SD card for WoW?
Would be in run > media > and whatever folder is in there. If you did the right thing with the SD card by formating within the steam os it will be something like mmcblk0p1. If you DIDNT do that step correctly it would be something weird like 5382-0927. Not exactly those numbers but that format.

TIL that you don't actually have to copy/paste the extracted files. Instead you can "right click" (using the left trigger) on the .zip file and then extract directly into the folder by traversing the file system to the correct directory.
