@@Revon.tv8 hey man. Thank you very much. And yes I'm looking into that, I think that kind of video would be best with real guitars. So when I have some multitracks I'll do a video from scratch
Just for clarification, "doom metal guitars" here is misleading - "doom metal" and "metal like in the videogame Doom" are two very different things. This kind of subgenre has generally been referred to as "argent metal" for a while, it pretty clearly lets people know that it's very Mick Gordon/Doom inspired, even though technically it's just sort of a modern variation of industrial metal. I'm only saying this because you might inadvertently end up reaching the wrong audience and leaving them confused, like how this got recommended to me after watching a video related to actual doom metal.
Ha this happened to me i was trying to work with someone on discord an they said doom themed slam and i was like i got a bunch of doom style riffs but they meant the video game
@@thirtysix2501 hey man. I see your point. Thank you for the clarification. I'll keep that in mind for future videos. I was on the fence about the title, however didn't know why.

very high quality video, I really liked the part where you explained taking techniques from mixing guides on yt instead of copying them completely, its really good advice. you dont seem like meant to do something wrong, but the title is very misleading 🥲 I was expecting something more in line with Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard or Buzzoven, not Mick Gordons Doom soundtrack (which is a very different style of metal) I suggest editing the title of the video or taking out the #doommetal tag in the description to avoid reaching the wrong audience. Otherwise this was a very in depth and informative video!!

Yeah good job trying to mix this. But honestly i fucking hate it. And so many bands are going for this fake rubbery sounding guitar tones. Even on live rigs . And it really makes me want to throw up. Personally id rather lose that potential business than put my name on something thatll never sound real no matter what i do. Midi drums have come a long way and love working with them Programmed guitars ....nah Ill pass that off to someone else 🤷♂️
@@havocdevelopment6142 hey man. Thank you 🙌 Well as a Mixing Engineer building a career with that kind of mind set will keep me broke. It is important to work with any source material that is presented. That's part of the skill, the ability to mix anything. Music is constantly evolving weather we like it or not. And not accepting the change in my position would be career suicide. I do not enjoy MIDI guitars. At all. The guitars here are just for mixing. Technical stuff and so on. I hear what you saying, however the industry standard today is just different to how the sound was 10 or 15 years ago. Personally for me, I am not attached to any of this. My only concern is my ability to overcome any mix that comes my way. Weather the band used fake instruments or not is irrelevant to me. Would I prefer real guitars (YES) however my job is to serve the musician and not my subjective thoughts and feelings about the sound they want or instruments they used.
dude.. It doesnt matter how youre mixing these guitars... It's all for nothing... The sub frequencies from kick drums are absolutely BURYING this entire mix..... Please be responsible and learn what you are doing before you trying teaching others...
The kick does seem to have a bit too much low end. It's not sub lows. It's actually low mids around 100 hz. I agree it's too much. The kick might also be too loud. But your comment is very dramatic. What I would suggest for you is learn how to speak to people respectfully. I would take you seriously if you reach out in the comments and simply inform me of your findings. But this type of reactivity in my opinion puts you in a position to lose the credibility of your comment. Take care
Idk man i think the kick is fine its hitting the limiter just right so it pumps the beat the only thing i change is adding some attomation lowering the volume a little during the double bass parts
Mmm... bit of a misplaced comment I think dude. His mix is a total pass and sure you're actually right about the lows being a little unruly but the whole mix would pass and if it has a bit of edge either way that's not a huge issue as long as it isn't blowing anyone's speakers up. But they don't seem like subs on my meter. It's more 80-120hz so you might wanna rethink this comment overall. Personally I appreciate anyone passing on their knowledge to people learning and true professionals will try to point it out kindly and not drag others down. And one of the beauties of sound engineering is that there aren't really many rules outside of the obvious ones like gain staging etc. Some people might 100% dig this sound. Bear that in mind.
@2KDamage very well said man. I agree with everything. And it is such a subjective artform. But yes I also agree the kick is a bit too much 😂 This is by no means an outstanding mix. Programmed elements are not my strong suit. As soon as the guitars are not real I really have a hard time shaping the mix. Non the less it's all a learning curve 🙌

i would liken mick gordon's stuff to djent before industrial, sure the production elements are there but musically there isn't quite as much influence
