    Mike Plotnikoff is one of the most prolific engineers in the world, there is almost zero chance you haven't heard something he's worked on. Watch as he divulges his philosophies and secrets while recording Björn Gelotte of In Flames.
    To see the entire process from start to finish check out How It's Done with Howard Benson.
    NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.
    Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These are the actual sessions by bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Periphery, Opeth, Fall Out Boy, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember and more - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

    The most impressive thing to me isn't the recording itself, but the player who has all the riffs, variations, and arrangements all mapped in his head, ready to go.
    They do give props to the players.

    When it comes to guitar, the absolutely best thing you can get as a producer is a player who can play super-tightly in time. Listen to Björn's doubles in mono - they almost sound like a single performance, it's insane.
    You can't really do quad-tracking with a player who isn't in time with himself.

      I think he meant to say center of the dust cap (didn’t look anywhere near the cone, let alone center) which is a bit odd for a 57 and 421 so I’m guessing the amp is probably pretty dark in the room.

      @@louderthangod Meant to say dust cap -- but yeah, maybe the amp is dark. The cab is a late 70s Marshall with the blackbacks -- I have a 4x12 from '77 with the same speakers. I am gonna test the center of the dush cap method myself.

    Love what was said @11:27 about the player having such a huge part of the sound. It can be such a hassle trying to get another players tone. Some will even go so far as to buy the exact rig and still not be close to getting it. The truth is no one can sound like you. Every guitaist has their own unique touch. So awesome.

    • @coltonrudd
      @coltonrudd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Triple Quad referring to the 3rd and 4th guitar tracks of the same part. Standard is usually at least 2 tracks (called a double), and then you're essentially adding another double to that, so a triple and a quad.

      You can use melodyne to tune pitchy notes and a lot of producers do, but a lot don't. If we don't have something already on youtube i'll see if there's something in the fast tracks we can throw up soon about it.

    this...just to see this workflow inspires me as a one-man army who picked a guitar this year and decided all my sounds will be guitar driven. i got tired of dealing with VSTs and quite frankly they were too easy and too clean for my liking. I like challenges, I like sounds that make me stop and ask, "Did I play that?" I know sometimes these studios don't realise how much they unintentionally help us novices who are just trying to get their sound right but I feel like this video was uploaded specifically for me. I have never been more optimistic than i am now about my guitar records now that I have watched this. Funny enough I also use just my cheap fender to do the leads, rhythms, harmonies, and accents/responses. Of course, I have a dedicated bass guitar for the bass sound😂😂😂.

    He is not picking hard enough... you guys know it! That's why it has that overly distorted, compressed thing, that is the only way to get that saturated without any pick attack. Its definitely a lot of what makes it sound the way it does. If you dig in harder you can use WAY less gain and still sound massive. Yes I know this inflames. Its pretty obvious what makes his sound is his lack of pick attack.
    Look at his DI tracks! I am so disappointed that damn clayman tone, we couldn't get it cause we picked to hard....
    Perfect example here, fit for an autopsy guy covering episode 666. You can hear the thing chunk cause he is picking hard
