- I'm back. Thank you to all the viewers who provided great advice in the my initial attempt to do the laminations - see this video for more details: • Laminated Wood Leg Fai...
Wood - New Guinea Rosewood.
Steaming process - 30 - 40 minutes using high quality Australian made steam. Each leg stayed on the form for about 2 days to dry and stabilise. Then I glued those critters up using Polyurethane Glue (good stuff that glue).
I know I need to centre my cutting tool on the lathe (and remove the backlash).
Stain - Walnut
Special thanks to my Patreon Supporters who help me do what I do - thank you!!
Whilst not a sponsored video in any way - thanks to Welding Industries Australia (WIA) for the use of the WIA200i. It is a superb machine that makes my job that much easier.
Finally, thank you for watching (and reading this). All the best and I hope to see you again next time, or maybe in the comments!
Those legs aren't going ANYWHERE! Lovely design & terrific execution.
I love that he ends with a not so subtle reminder of a failed attempt at the legs. Makes this success all the more sweet ! One of my favourite fabricators.
I Recovered :) Thanks Todd!!
You do not miss anything in your garage. You can create everything that comes to mind. You don't know how much I envy you! :-)
Leonardo - :) Thank You!!
Me too..your work totally beyond this world
Very beautiful build you have made. Really like the design of the stool.fantastic work indeed.
I tried to go with a classical look here, so thank you and all the best!
Seeing your old plane, I'm reminded at how amazed I always am that planes made today use almost exactly the same design as those made 100+ years ago. Speaking of good design, your stool would look great in just about any setting from workshop to trendy pub.
Thank You Thomas! The larger plane is an oldie for sure. It was my Father in Laws Fathers plane and it is as it was when he last used it, with exception being I've sharpened it of course. All the best!
Very very nice! I like that your work is very sturdy but still very stylish. That small brass hub looked great!
Thank you Garage Dad! Yes it's built strong so hopefully it will way outlast me. All the best!
I don't normally enjoy looking at other peoples stool, but I guess there's a first time for everything!
Cool! Well if you're going to make a stool, my advise is to make one that every one can enjoy ;) thanks man!
Super cool! I like the sound of the gas starting on the mig. 👍
I'm really liking using gas over flux core - Thanks Ian!
Glad to see you didnt let it defeat you. Great work Scott. Love the seat and how it turned out.
Thanks Eddie. It was never going to defeat me, even if I had to build a 50 T press to get it done. Good glue and patience helps though :) . Thanks mate!
Blown away with the standard of work and detail, but still laughing at the “dramatic “ music and humour. Brilliant. Regards Paul
That's awesome - thank you again Paul! I am nothing more than a goose at heart :)
Honestly, that's done so brilliantly that I pull my hat here. Respect!!!👏👏👏
Hi Andrew from Beautiful Jagsttal! Thank you! I always appreciate your support and feedback!!
Scott Turner, thank you so much.
Great work as usual Scott. The fasteners definitely bring our your aeronautical knowledge to the project. To me it is the signature of your work. Looking forward to the next one.
Thankyou James - yes I was infected young with the plane bug :) New video this week end. All the best and thanks for the comment!
Gotta say, I love your clamping blocks to enable you to clamp weird angles. I’ll have to use that!
They did the trick, thank you!!
Scott you make some of the coolest looking pieces, love the finnish, thanks for sharing
Thank you Rob - All the best!!
That's one gorgeous stool. And I absolutely love how you make every part of your projects.
Thank you Sean - I try and make as many parts as I can.
Good on you for sticking with it. It Turned out amazing
Good fun project - Thank you!
In my opinion, Scott Turner is an artistic treasure
Thank you so much Michael!
Thanks to TH-cam for recommending this channel! magnificent all the works !! Arriba Scott vamos que vamos!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 saludos desde Uruguay
Thank you for your comment Harry! All the best!
Perseverance paid off. I am glad to see it completed.
Now as mentioned by others you need to blacken the fasteners.
Thanks Wayne - The people have spoken, so shall it be.
Another prime example of quality, brilliant work!
Much appreciated, thank you again!!
Scott,
Congratulations on success with the lamination technique. Failure led to success.
Yes, I was always going to win in the end :)
I’m a fairly good woodworker, make furniture pieces. But you, sir, are a genius. Combining metalworking with woodworking.....awesome.
Huge thanks Lewis - I'm just fortunate to be able to try out a few things. All the best!
Great, got your mojo going in this one Scott, I liked your steam box, using PVC good idea, and inexpensive, the form for the bends looks vaguely familiar, hockey playoffs are on so time is short, keep them coming.
Thank John, Simple did the job, just wished I boiled an egg for the video, maybe even steam some broccoli for Tim Sway. Might have to start watching hockey :)
Reminds me of my dad's drummers stool... Great job & nice video... Cheers...
Well, I'm glad for it - thank you Barry!
Scott always does high quality and innovative design and work 👍
Much appreciated - I do my best, thank you!!
SCOTT!!!! you are a RockStar mate!!! love your videos and you done it again! Love from South Carolina USA!
Thank you Ricardo! Way too kind, but I'll take it - cheers! Love from Townsville Australia. All the best!
Brilliant result mate, love the tie rod thingy too! Hope we see more lamination projects in the future!
Hi Peter, thank you as always I appreciate your feedback. No doubt will be more laminations. Have a great week end mate!
Glad you gave it another shot! Great work artist!
Thank you Tez! I'll be Back (Any does it better)
This is the perfect place for the famous quote "you got to love it when a plan comes together" ~ Hannibal Smith The A-Team
Serious though mate great work as always!
Thanks Jim - Loved watching the A Team all those years ago!
Some one told me a long time ago that I could turn shit into gold , now I am telling you the same thing Ihave watched some of your videos 2 or 3 times and each time I see some thing new thank you for sharing your talent . cheers
Love it! Thank you Douglas!
Absolutely astounding performance. Excellent work.
Very kind - thank you!!
One of the beautifulest project i’ve seen on TH-cam ! Congrats ! 👍🏻👍🏻
And thanks 😉
Oh -that' so good to hear - Thank You!!
Beautiful stool man! I have never seen a three legged stool I didn’t like. But this one is SPECIAL.
Cool Thank you!
Lovely! My favorite detail is the three way tie at the bottom. Tasty.
Last minute add on. Glad it was tasty - cheers!
I continue to love your sense of style, right in line with mine. Sweet stool. I have a few planned too, but they will be a bit less elegant, using some upcycled pneumatic chair guts. Stay tuned!
Old chair guts - love it, I've done one of those making an office chair. I did a guts transplant - works great! Thank you as always, looking forward to seeing the stools.
I loved seeing the details you put into refinng the legs.
Thanks Dave - it was therapeutic :)
Nice! Enjoyed the whole process...including the lamination trials. Well done.
Thanks Bob, the project was a great teacher!
Beautiful Scott. And beautiful stool too.
Hey Daniel - thank you, I try and hide my stunning good looks but it's almost impossible (hadidihaha ;) Thanks mate - all the best!
Scott, your editing is about the best, the project was elegant and you brass center 'nut' was really an nice touch. I'd suggest you order brass fasteners for the leg bolts, and acorn nut (if you can find them!! ?) and replace with brass fasteners? Sure is fun watching you make all these items.!!
Thank you so much Kevin. Yes sometimes it's difficult to get the fasteners that are best suited to the style. Cheers!
If you wanted to take the time? might etch steel or cad plated hardware and then use some form of patina solution to try and get 'brass' colored hardware? Thanks again- great piece.
If at first you don't succeed, steam it, lol! Great looking stool Scott. I think that all handwork deserves epic background music! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Paul. I missed a great opportunity to steam some broccoli, and boil and egg. Thanks for watching!! See you next time.
Well done mate, great example of persistence paying off
Thank Steve - persistence and patience.
Beautiful bendy goodness !!!!! Stunner !
Damn Straight :) Thanks Annie!
Un altro pezzo fantastico! Video perfetto! Sei incredibile Scott!!!! Vorrei avere un decimo della tua maestria! Complimenti!
Really nice stool mate. Perseverance saw you through!!
Appreciated Barry thank you!
Best stool build and design of U toob
Thanks Tom!
well done Scott, wonderful to play piano :-)
Thank you Michele - Yes would be perfect for piano.
Outstanding job. (If the comment worth it, I would use blue locktite in all treads). Congratulations.
Thank you Martin. Thread locker - I have some, ok ok I will....tomorrow :)
Sharp looking chair. What craftsmanship. Beautiful 👍🙂
Thank you David!!
Great project. Love the classic music tones you included ~. Very funny. BTW thanks for sharing your fails I enjoy the lessons learned.
My Pleasure John - Thank you!
Wow the finished project looks amazing!!!
Cool - thank you!
Wow...just saw the fail video, after this video. (My comment below) We always learn, whether easy or hard way. Thanks for the vids Scott.
Yes well when we stop learning, I think we have closed our minds. Sometimes we learn easy, other times its hard. Thank you!!
Damn, Scott!! Beautiful work!!!
:) Thank you Josh!
stylish and functional. nice work. May your skills continue to grow.
I pick up a few things each project - thank you!
Even your stool movements are impressive!
I try to get my stool movements right, thank you! :)
Fantastic build.
Thanks!
Interesting how, even with all the power tools we have now, there are some jobs you just gotta go traditional for. That turned out great, man! Have I mentioned how much I love this style? Because I do.
Hi, and thank you. Very glad you like it. It's nice to use hand tools every now and then. Good therapy :)
Looks like it! Gotta get myself some of those as soon as I have the space to keep them in. Keep up the good work :D
Another win! Keep them coming!
Thank you - I will!
Cool process. Love the industrial look to this stool!
Hi Bruce - thank you!!
Pure genius. Great work
Not - but I'll bank it anyway :) Thanks Branden!
Fantastic Scott! My favorite of yours so far.
Cool - Thank you Eric!
Wow, this looks awesome. Only thing I would add is to turn up some nice brass fittings to replace those Bunnings nuts and bolts for that center ring.
Thank you! Ok I will :)
NobbyBinks Well, if he is going to do that, how ‘bout some nice brass leg ends?
Great work as usual , Love it.... I noticed after your glue up you said "2 days later" Very Wise...I see many people start stressing glue joints after just 1 or 2 hours, Titebond or Gorilla glue (polyurethane)...both need real time for strength.
Thank you! Yes I gave everything heaps of time just to make sure. I did the glue ups whilst I was doing something else so time lost wasn't really an issue. Cheers!
Great video and very beautifull stool! Im going to copy your steaming setup, that's marvellous.
Hi Tuomas - Thank you! Yes it's a very basic set up and it worked really well for my project.
Bravo pour votre persévérance, le résultat est superbe.
Merci Jean-Luc pour tes gentils mots!
Wow! What a beautiful piece. Love it.
Thank you Josh, much appreciated!!
Another inspiring project! Great and beautiful work!
Thank you Miles, all the best!
MAGNIFIQUE travail, la vapeur d’Australie marche très bien :-) :-),très jolie tabouret. C'est toujours un plaisir de voir vos vidéo.
Merci - oui Nous avons beaucoup de bonne vapeur ici :) Thank you again for your support!
That stool is so nice love it
I appreciate your feedback Phil! Thankyou!
ONe of your best video/projects to date. And they are all good!
Thank you so much Dale!!
Dá pra assistir a seus vídeos, comendo pipoca. Assim como uma série de Netflix. Excelentes trabalhos, scott.
Ótimo para ouvir! Obrigado!!
I have watched some of your other videos which I liked but this one made me subscribe. Really nice work!! FWIW, I think the bottom three-way retainer takes away from the stool and is fragile (a person could put their foot on a rod and bend it). Instead, I think you could remove that and beef up the upper ring by making it one ring above the other. What I mean is to make a ring that will weld to the bottom of the bolt tabs so you would see two rings together that are approximately one inch apart. This would be more than enough to keep the legs from deflecting outward and I think would give it a better presentation. MHO. Again, job well done and very inspiring. I look forward to your future projects.
Thanks for the Sub Michael and also for the feedback. Much appreciated, plenty more projects coming.
È sempre un piacere guardare i tuoi video, Scott!
👍
Perfeito. ..o sistema de vapor para as fatias da madeira o tubo é de PVC ou metal .....muito bonita ficou uma obra de arte ....
Tão feliz que você gostou! Obrigado novamente por suas amáveis palavras!
Beautiful work Scott!
Cool, thank you Jason!
Nice one! Glad to see you got the lamination technique down. Looks quite time consuming, but the proof is in the pudding. 👍🏻
*insert bill Cosby joke here
The sound of tapping brass is pretty satisfying
Yes it is - good pick up!
Thank you - Yes I guess it was time consuming, but I suppose if I was better set up, more jigs, clamps etc the process would be quicker for me. Mmmmmmm Pudding :)
The only thing I wish this stool had was a back rest. Just bc I'd love to see how you'd design it. Awesome work as usual
Thanks Joel! Back rest - maybe
You never disappoint NICE
:) I try not to, thank you Antony!
very nice result. great craftmanship!
Thank you!
Beautiful work of a respectable man
Very kind - thank you!
Awesome job Scott. Now I want to try bent wood lamination.
Do it Mon :) Thanks Paul!
Хороший стул, такой надо в театр для игры на пианино. отличная работа))
Да, отлично подходит для игры на фортепиано или гитаре. Спасибо!
Scott Turner. Ну я прям как знал)) Творческих успехов и побольше видео. Отличный канал))
Очень добрый! Спасибо!
Ok... that’s it. I just subscribed to your channel. Your projects are fantastic!
Awesome huge thanks for the Sub! Thank you for the feedback!
That's a great job, I couldn't believe you've actually put soo many detailes in just one chair... Is that chair for you own house or ordered by someone?
Thank you!! Well if some one wants to buy it I'll sell it. It's not made for an order, just as a project. All the best.
Polyurethane glue is awesome, just don't forget to wear gloves. It continues to foam under your fingernails for days. And the safety advise on the label is similar to that posted around Chernobyl.
Too late ;) My hair has turned grey (I have 4 grey hairs) and I have caught a case of the wrinkles. Thank you. you are spot on. nasty stuff.
The sweet taste of success. That looks great. If you're bothered by the zinc plating on the bolts (which I'm not personally), drop them in some muriatic acid for a few seconds... gone.
Hi There Muddy, well I'm not worried but I've had some feedback on the hardware. handy tip - Thank you always!!
It’s beautiful. I like to mix metal and wood also.
Thank you Justin - Yes I love metal and wood, great combo.
Looks amazing...great job 👍
Thanks for the feedback!!
Awesome piece
Thank you Kameron.
You've done it now scott👍
Hi Paul - It's done, time for a beer ;)
well done! Awesome work as usual.
Many thanks!
Wow man! That is cool 👍 So much detail, Love it!!
Hey Dan, thanks mate. It's ends up being a good place to park my arse on at days end :)
Congratulations to the video, the Stool is beautiful and your tools too hehe
Thank you Jacques!
The last shot is especially good))
:) Thanks
Beautiful ! Thanks for sharing
My pleasure - thanks for watching!
Incredibly beautiful !
Many thanks Thomas!!
Como sempre outro trabalho único.e você mostra o que fez de errado isso é muito legal e de novo aquela broca que aqui não existe parabéns pelo trabalho e pelo vídeo um abraço .
Obrigado Douglas! Eu aprecio seu comentário como sempre!
the only thing i would change is the seat,in stead of ply i would use oak or something
but still great job ,very cool
A nice piece of Oak would be perfect! Thank you!
great steam woodwork project😊🍀🍀🍀
Thank you Lukas - it was a good learning project, but by gosh that timber has some tannins that I had to scrub out of my hands by days end.
great build...again!
I've used the poly glue a couple of times when laminating....but, it doesn't do too well if the timber is too dry....it needs an 8-10% moisture content in the wood to cure and stick. I've started using tite bond III.....haven't had any de lamination problems since then.
Love this stool!
Thank you Danny!
