I had a booth at the Fabtech Show back in 2009. I was promoting the Tool & Die business I work at. At least until 65 more days from now. Thanks for sharing your project. Can't wait to see the others projects.
What a way to demonstrate the fruit of your labor, being recognized for your skillful talents and basically having another company so confident in you to want you to be apart of their event. Your stool turned out great, always love having an excuse to use a new tool. :) Cool stuff man!
It's been fun to watch each of your projects come to life. Everyone had a different perspective which made it very interesting to watch. Great job Johnny
The Turbo Plane is fantastic. This seat looks great. I would love to build one for my shop, but when it get really cold during winter the steel would be a problem to handle while moving the stool. I think I will wrap parts of the legs with paracord or hemp rope :) Thank you for the idea ॐ
If you wanted to try and up the metalwork do you think it would be possible to planish/hammer a curved piece of sheet steel to make the seat and then weld on a rim, base & supports?
+matt mcl thanks! Raw steel definitely has a cool look. I definitely would have done a better job grinding it, I had to have someone else do it for me and it wasn’t the best grinding work.
The Maple definitely helped the walnut out as it always does.lol and you're right About the air dried walnut the colors are beautiful! That stool turned out awesome! definitely have to look into getting a Turbo plane for the angle grinder good stuff as always Johnny..And this is my new channel my other channel was hacked
Crafted Workshop Yes it did but I got my original channeled back so that is cool the other channel that I set up thinking when I do something collaborative with it but couple other people nothing set in stone yet some does going to keep using my original channel dab on the hackers
I was wondering how much of a comfort difference the carved seat made, but you said it helped. I know it looks cool, but good to know it makes it more comfortable too. I really like the cantilevered design of the stool...good job!
Hey I'm a joiner from austia and i have a small but cool advice for oiling or waxing: if you want an even more perfect surface use a sanding sponge to rub the oil/wax in :D
Crafted Workshop I just love to build stuff, having the knowledge and skills to "turn shit into Ice cream". Sorry, but you can't use that phrase lol, it was passed down to me, I had to earn it.
+KingPost TimberWorks I love it. Outstanding dust collection, super low vibration. One thing, the pads tear really easily since they’re mesh. That is pretty frustrating sometimes, but otherwise I love it.
Looks awesome, and great use of scraps. I'm curious your thoughts on the turbo plane vs. the miniature version that came out? What size threshold would you want to switch from one to the other?
+Modustrial Maker thanks! Are you talking about their little bowl gouge or the one April just featured in her unboxing? Having varying sizes would definitely be handy, I don’t think the TURBO Plane would be great for super tight spaces. I’d say anything less than 6” would probably be too tight.
I should have known you would say get them all ;) I saw the one April and DiResta used for spoons, but I think they make a mini Turbo plane in between that one and the one you used? Do you think the in-between model would do the job for a chair like this?
+FOMI1970 thanks! Honestly, I agree. The crappy cuts from the portaband led to shitty looking welds. Had I had a chop saw at my disposal, it would have looked cleaner.
+Houtje Boom - Be Creative you only need to enter your name and address. You can leave the CC info blank. It’s just a weird design on Squarespace’s shopping cart system.
Awesome stool! I’m interested in trying this myself with some pallet wood. How thick should I use for a base if I want to carve it out like yours? Also, I’m not a metal worker so I’ll need to find a base for it. I’ve found simple bases but can’t find a decent frame for the chairback so I may stick with just the stool. Thanks for the video and any help you can provide!
nice and simple, I like it. i'd recommend the chalked bare butt transfer method in addition to the scribe to get that ultimate seat contour. can you pm me 3 arbortechs plz?
+Chris Pyke yea, I wanted to keep it simple, would love to do a Maloof-style seat at some point. And if only I had some TURBO Planes to give! Maybe I’ll try to do a giveaway on my Instagram...
As normal a brilliant video & seat mate, very impressive what you make & I would honestly say there’d be no lack of seating at a BBQ at your place lol, just a side not Arbotech is an Aussie invention so I’ll say oi oi oi, sorry mate it’s one of our catch cries lol 👍👍👍
+Stizzer123 total accident! Didn’t think it though, should have put my stamp towards the outside edge. Oh well, if anyone removes the seat, they’ll know who made it. 😂

+Tom Pritchard nice! Retiring? You’ll have a lot more time for woodworking!
That is my plan. Do mostly wood carvings and some furniture. May setup a little store of sorts??
+Tom Pritchard yea, for sure!
What a way to demonstrate the fruit of your labor, being recognized for your skillful talents and basically having another company so confident in you to want you to be apart of their event. Your stool turned out great, always love having an excuse to use a new tool. :)
Cool stuff man!
+Gage Robinson thanks a lot! It was a real honor to be invited to the event by Lincoln.
I dig it!
+Modern Builds thanks dude!
It's been fun to watch each of your projects come to life. Everyone had a different perspective which made it very interesting to watch. Great job Johnny
+Gary Jones thanks Gary! Glad you’re enjoying them.

+The Wood Yogi nice, that sounds awesome! Thanks!
Definitely my favourite of all the chairs at the fabtech show, simplicity pays off - great job as always johnny :)
+JMakes thanks man! It’s definitely my favorite stylistically, although some of the others were more challenging on the metal side.
If you wanted to try and up the metalwork do you think it would be possible to planish/hammer a curved piece of sheet steel to make the seat and then weld on a rim, base & supports?
+JMakes for sure!
Very beautiful, I have been searching for such a channel. It has helped us many greetings to you from a new friend
my god, that turbo plane looks like a ton of fun!
+Third Coast Craftsman it definitely is!
Thanks dude. You just inspired me to utilize my various scrap strips and carve my first round stool seat.
+curtislv426 nice, have fun!
3:23 those walnut shavings reminding me of chocolate shavings 🤤👍🏻
Great piece, I like how different everyone's projects are but still look good together!
+Matt Williams thanks Matt! Totally agree, the randomness of the styles makes them work together somehow!
Really like the design and use of scrap wood
+Josh M. Thanks!
Awesome piece, It was great hanging out! I am shocked at how well that Turboplane seems to have worked.
Oh, and sweet shirt by the way!

Great design and finished product, actually kinda digging the unpainted metal. Nice work!
+matt mcl thanks! Raw steel definitely has a cool look. I definitely would have done a better job grinding it, I had to have someone else do it for me and it wasn’t the best grinding work.

+Jake Thompson we did, thanks Jake!
Pure master !!, very good design and excellent wood
+oscar silva thanks!
I've had my eye on a turboplane for a while now. It's an expensive bit but man can you make some cool looking pieces with it.
+freeman621 yup, I think it’s a good investment. The fact that it’s able to be resharpened is a big plus to me.
Another awesome video mate, the show looked awesome too. Stool turned out great
+Robin Lewis thanks Robin! It was a great event, a ton of fun.
You just have to say "Walnut", that's instant awesome
+badasspuppy pretty much!
The Maple definitely helped the walnut out as it always does.lol and you're right About the air dried walnut the colors are beautiful! +JOE'S DIY & BASEMENT WOODWORKING oh dang man, that sucks! And thanks!

Crafted Workshop I just love to build stuff, having the knowledge and skills to "turn shit into Ice cream". Sorry, but you can't use that phrase lol, it was passed down to me, I had to earn it.
+creep life hah, definitely a good skill to have!
Crafted Workshop but yea, I love learning from you guys, I just bought a house, and I'm going to turn the garage into my living space/workshop.

+Modustrial Maker I would still want this sized model for a chair I think. And yes, buy everything, hah!
i would give A for the woodwork , but B for the metalwork , but all in all it was a good build , by the way , nice shirt :)
+FOMI1970 thanks! Honestly, I agree. The crappy cuts from the portaband led to shitty looking welds. Had I had a chop saw at my disposal, it would have looked cleaner.
Muchas gracias
De nada!
Hi great project.... just a question. Why do I have to fill in the payment even when the file is for free?
+Houtje Boom - Be Creative you only need to enter your name and address. You can leave the CC info blank. It’s just a weird design on Squarespace’s shopping cart system.
Crafted Workshop oké thanks you
what are the angles you used for the stool
You can pull the angles from the SketchUp file which is available to download for free from my web store: craftedworkshop.com/store

Just curious, what is the rough height of the stool?
I think it ended up around 18” if I remember correctly.
Excelente
Gracias!
Very cool
+Kaged Creations thanks!
Are you just using regular stamp ink for your logo? What a great alternative to a pricey branding iron!
+Sean De Groote yup! Just permanent ink. Works great before applying finish.
got the sketchup plan, was hoping for dimensions.. :(
I cannot download the SketchUp File, it says it has been deleted or removed
thats bad ass
Thanks Chris!

Crafted Workshop OI OI OI Lol 👍👍👍👍👍
Squat Jimmy!!!
+Kyle Passen lol
Everytime I see this thumbnail I think its a diresta video because of the metal cut out in the thumbnail - and then he never appears! 😥
not mach with base of stool
I make a stool every morning
+Chad M I knew someone was going to make this joke, hah
But... why hide that nice logo with the base plate? 😞
+Stizzer123 total accident! Didn’t think it though, should have put my stamp towards the outside edge. Oh well, if anyone removes the seat, they’ll know who made it. 😂
👍👍
+Gib Clark thanks for watching Gib!
Why bother making a stool when you squat next to it. lol
+Jake Lile that’s my trademark!
maybe it tips over
I watched a 1min and 50sec long ad for you, you're welcome
Great build. But maybe you should do it a bit lower so you wont have to squat. lol
+Sorgun Akkor hah, thanks!
First
+Ronald Jonson congrats!
Thanks love the video!
+Ronald Jonson thanks for watching!
